help... i can't sleep at night

thanks redthread12... it seems lots of people experience this problem.
    i really appreciate everyone's input!
i will also explore the seroquel... at this point i am trying to see how i do on stablon for anxiety and depression and don't want to add anything else really... unless of course it is unavoidable.
i cannot be balanced if i'm not sleeping!!
and loss of sleep is similar to over drinking... one night builds on the next.

help... i can't sleep at night

The best advice I ever got about not sleeping was very old fashioned and deceptively simple as it was good: If you cant sleep - dont.

I am a very light sleeper, I don't call this a disorder. Maybe it a result of all the stimulants and booze I've had over the years. Whatever - c'est la vie!

I go to bed, switch off the lights and listen to the BBC World Service at night, I rest, I relax, day dream, and generally chill. I don't stress out about it and I don't do any drugs to get me off to the land of nod. I'll do a few hours then wake up then nod off again. I get a couple of sleep sessions in each night. I quiet enjoy the night and its a valuable part of my day and very relaxing and creative period mixed in with some sleep and plenty of rest.

In total I get by with about four hours sleep a night and because I haven't stressed out about it I feel fine. Plus I make sure there is plenty of complex carbohydrate in my diet to keep me effectively fueled throughout the day and I don't do caffeine as that just gives me false peaks of energy and inevitable troughs.

Consider this - maybe its not the amount of sleep but your attitude towards the amount of sleep. Maybe you just need more rest. Over the years I've known many people who are light sleepers and they live happy lives. They have similar sleep patterns to people with certain types of sleep disorder, who are presumably not as happy as the light sleepers - so maybe its about how we attribute and respond to a situation rather than the situation?

      Is your glass?

      A - half full?
      B - half empty?
C - not a glass but a bottle of sleeping pills?
      D - a wee night cap?

Hehehe - anyway take comfort in the knowledge that the type of sleep you get when you are AF is better than type you get when you drink yourself silly.

There - told you it was old fashioned, works for me though.

help... i can't sleep at night

For me, sleeping medication is always the last resort. i try to make sure my room is comfortable first. Change my bed, get comfy pillows, drink milk, take hot shower before sleeping, decrease caffeine intake... basically changing your lifestyle.
