September Abbercizers - The Wheezers not Geezers Locker Room!

:b&d: How's that for a thread title!! Since we come here post workout, I want the chance to snap Deter with my towel. :b&d: And I know I can do it especially since he's still gimpin' at the moment.

I kicked off the new month right - actually on Tuesday when the new month started LOL - with some ass kickin' personal torture. Of course I was the recipient, not the :b&d:. Lower body torture Tuesday, cardio yesterday, Upper Body Torture today. Personal Torturer said she likes working with me. My theory is that she likes the fact that I'm stupid enough to try everything she tells me to do, no matter how silly I look trying to do it. I'm glad there are no video cameras. At least I don't think there are. Today we did this thing for abs with one of those giant balls. I was laying on my back with both feet and both hands in the air holding up the ball. Then keep the ball up there with 1 foot and hand (opposite ones) while lowering the other foot and hand to the floor then back up again then other foot and hand. I swear it took me 5 tries before I could simply get "opposite" hands and feet going. Then PT(tm) had the nerve to say "can you feel that in your abs?" Anyone still breathing would feel that in their abs. Anyway, a very good workout all in all!

OK EVERYONE!! TIME TO GET YOUR LAZY ASSES IN GEAR!!! :b&d::sofa::b&d: Drop and give me 20. Make that 50.

I've never known what those balls are for! People at my gym just seem to lie on top of them when they're tired - or maybe they're doing a very complicated balancing routine and I simply don't appreciate it.

I've paid my ?50 subs today to the work netball team. First game is next Monday. I haven't met the team yet but I suspect everyone else will be younger than me and I'll be the old wheezer. The last time I played was at school 25-plus years ago. Nervous!

I'm in for September (though about a week late)

Since i'm stopping smoking today, i will be replacing morning run/walk of 4 miles each day instead of sitting at the computer, drinking coffee and then running out to the garage and smoking every 1/2 hour till work.

I will also add in weights 3 times a week.

i had a PT a couple of years ago for 2 months and she was the devil-incarnated. I thought she would be easy on me because she was pregnant but she told me later that she was impressed i didnt throw up those first weeks. yikes!! there were mornings i could barely pull on my underwear. lol

Cant afford one now so i will be my own PT. albiet a little easier on myself.

good luck everyone with your fitness goals!

Hi all! Marshy, what is Netball? Is that similar to volleyball and if so, do you have a mandatory bikini uniform you have to wear? I'm sure you will do great and nobody will even suspect you as an old wheezer. Boy you better not come to my gym with that lack of appreciation for those balls! Barbie would claw your eyes out! Speaking of Barbie...I was beginning to think you snatched Ken somehow in the exchange program but he was there with Barbie today. He was eye candy as usual. She was wearing designer sweat pants with the word "Pink" on the butt in green letters which was sort of funny. I might wear that! (although not on designer sweat pants!) She has long hair and she always wears it down when she works out. I don't know how she keeps it out of her mouth, nose eyes, and away from the weights where it would all get pulled out of her head. I must watch more carefully in the future to see how she manages this. :H

Peace I hope your kid is feeling better today! High white count...some sort of infection?? I hope it's nothing too serious. 7 miles is a long way.

Mstall, you will not regret giving up the smokes even though it can be very difficult at first - was for me. But now I don't think about them any more. FREEDOM. Exercise and changing up your routine are really really good ideas that will surely help you along in your mission. Boy it sounds like your former PT was an angry wench. :b&d: There have been days where I can't pull my undies up but that's been more due to arthritis and such. :H

My plan was to do cardio only today, cardio and upper body tomorrow and then Monday off. But I was feeling my oats this morning so I did cardio and upper body today. Feels good to have that out of the way! Tomorrow will be 30 min of cardio easing my way into my day off. That will be 6 days of exercise for me out of 7 which is my goal. WHEE.

:b&d: Where is Deter? I'm hiding behind a triffid (did you know we have those in this locker room??) with my towel just waiting to get in a snap. :b&d: Where is everyone else?? Hey - do we have a sauna in this locker room? A whirlpool? This could be good. Virtual, but good.

DG - I love the Adventures of Ken and Barbie! There's a motley collection of regulars at my gym (me included!). One guy just juggles. Doesn't do anything else, just stands on the edge of the badminton courts and juggles. It occurred to me the other day that he didn't actually have to go to the gym to do that, but I guess he likes an "audience".

Netball is more like basketball, except you can't run with the ball or bounce it. (So nothing like basketball in fact :H). You throw the ball to each other, passing down the court and try to get it in the goal (similar to hoop) at the end. You can only run if you're not carrying the ball. So you run to get into a good position, then someone throws the ball at you, then you throw it to someone ahead etc until it gets down to the goal - shoot, score. Simple! If bikinis are mandatory, I'm going to be out of there so fast...

Mstall - great idea to replace the cigarettes with exercise. When I gave up, I replaced them with grilled cheese sandwices. Not a good idea

Gym and swim today. First netball match tomorrow night. :help!

Wow Marshy Netball sounds like fun. I doubt they will have mandatory bikini uniforms until it comes Beach Netball season. Then even Beach Tiddly Winks have mandatory bikini uniforms I think. The juggling story made me smile. When I first read the word juggler, before I realized you were talking about actual juggling of balls or something, I thought maybe you meant "jiggler" like the cottage cheese stuff on thighs. There is some of that around my gym for sure. (a small amount of it is on me, but don't tell anyone!)

I did 30 min of cardio today. I have this really stupid mind game that I seem to play every time. I set the machine to 30 minutes after much debate about doing only 20 minutes instead. Then I get started and can't imagine suffering through 30 whole minutes and so for 20 minutes, debate on just doing 20 minutes. And then when there is 9 minutes and 59 seconds left to go, I figure there is less than 10 minutes left, and anyone even me can suffer through anything for less than 10 minutes. Geez. What a mind trip. It's time to change up the songs in my iPod I think!! I don't know how people do long distance running. I couldn't stand the mind game long enough for an entire 10K much less a marathon.

There was a fun looking class going on when I walked a track lap just to cool down. I'm sure there is a new schedule this month in honor of "back to school" so I need to look at that. Spinning was not my thing for the mind game reasons described above. (couldn't stand that for an entire 50 minutes!!) But these classes where they are in constant motion doing different things with weights and those balls and some pilates looking moves and stuff like that look pretty fun. Tiring but fun. I have to at least try it!

:b&d: My pickles are done and I'm thinking about doing my sauna early and just lazing around this afternoon with the ballet DVD's!

                  Hi Hi.

I had my bloodwork back and its not what I was expecting! I am peri-menopausal ( hurray! ), but the shocker was that I am also very close to having type 2 diabetes. Sooo, I am now on doctors orders, Low GL diet and exercise for two months before I go back and have the bloods re-done. I also have some special vitamins that the doctor has made up himself, which seem to contain mostly broccoli extract...hmmm I'm hearing the very loud 'kerching' of his cash register.

Off to walk the dogs before it rains.

Marshy - netball was my nemesis, makes me break out in a cold sweat just thinking about it!

                  take care

                  Bets.

Betty - at least you're aware of the diabetes problem it before it happens and hopefully will be able to nip it in the bud.

I felt about hockey the way you felt about netball. At school they always waited until it was freezing cold in winter to send us out in our tiny skirts and T-shirts to hit each other with hockey sticks in the snow. Hated it!

I'm going for a swim later but no gym - don't want to wear myself out before the match!

Hello guys and gals, glad to see familar faces here still working out, it makes such a difference personally in keeping sober and I only wish I started years ago. I am still working my skinny butt off in the gym and can really notice the difference after 11 weeks, feeling a lot fitter and more toned. I have cut back a little bit from the 5 days a week that I started with, typical of me to go 100 miles an hour into it, but am in a nice rhythm now. Just as a footnote I am not sure I should be still posting in the abstinance section as I have been very gently modding for the last four weeks. Anyway good luck to you guys and keep up the good work.

My team won the netball match!!!!!!!! No thanks to me, hahah. It was great, though. I'd forgotten some rules and felt like a bit of an idiot when I gave away a couple of penalties coz I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. An offside rule seems to have been introduced that didn't exist when I was at school. Anyway, my new teammates were very nice and forgiving!

What I was pleased about was being able to run around and keep up with everyone for 40 minutes even though I was the old codger on the team. My year at the gym has stood me in good stead. I'm a bit stiff this morning, though!

Doggygirl - I was looking up the rules on the internet (coz I need to know them before next week!) and discovered that the game was invented in the US - in New Orleans - in 1895. So why we had to play it at school, and you didn't, I dunno.

Hi guys! I'm sneaking into the locker room today. It is time for me to get down to business and start training daily for the 5K on October 4th. Since I walked it last year, and it wasn't that hard, I guess I'm not too worried about getting ready. But, I need to get started now, or it will be hard!:H

I will still have company off and on this week, and it is hard for me to fit in some exercise with them around, but it can be done. Nothing too hard to start, but a hefty walk one day, and a bike ride the next. Either here at home or at the fitness center. Plus, I'm still working, so at least that is physical.

Netball does sound like fun. I think I will start playing a little raquetball again. I love that sport! I better practice before I ask anyone to play me though--it's been awhile.:H

My yoga instructor is switching a Saturday morning class to Monday evening, which might work out ok for me too. Starting back in to the yoga is necessary for me also!

Ok, I better get busy with my day. I'll look forward to checking in with you all. Especially the adventures of Barbie and Ken!:H

i have a hard time getting exercise in with company as well, but i find if i just say "i'm going for a run/walk/ride", nobody really minds...

anyway, i did 4 miles of running/walking hills and walked the dogs 3 more miles.

                            cheers!

I was planning on cycling into work today but my thighs are still saying no, no, no after netball. Oucha.
