    still here

    hi all.
i've been quiet this week as work is busy as hell.
plus we've had a storm passing for a two days now.
a big storm i might add but we did fine, just experiencing rain and gloom.

i have been looking around and doing a little posting though.
i've not had any big temptations thankfully.
i even logged into the AA site for more input.

i have a question that is simple but how long is the early sobriety stage?
i will be free 30 days on sept 6th.
is the early sobriety stage a year? two years?
gosh, a month seems long which is a very good point!
if this is going to 'stick' i better not let down my guard at all.
i can't deal w/more drama and then having to quit again.
aa really emphasizes the importance of not taking that first drink!
i remember from reading Al-Anon literature as a teenager.

Nite all! Tomorrow will be another clear headed morning, whoopie!

Hi 1967! Things seem a little quiet this weekend - I suspect that's due to the holiday in the US. Just wanted to respond to your post and give you some encouragement!

Yes indeed - AA does talk about the importance of staying focused on not taking the FIRST drink. Obviously if we don't take the first one, we don't have to worry about any further ones. Good that you are staying busy reading and posting about sobriety here and on other sites. A good bit of advice that I read along the way is that we should be willing to spend at least as much time working on our sobriety and "life after AL" as we were willing to spend drinking. I try to follow that advice even to this day, and needless to say I spend a lot of time working on sober living!

In what context are you asking about "early sobriety?" The journey can really vary from person to person from what I have seen. I think the degree to which sobriety starts to feel a bit easier has to do with how hard you work at really building a new life that doesn't revolve around AL. "Change your people, places and things" is the way I've heard that put in AA.

You are doing great. I think you are wise to NOT want to go through this initial part of giving up AL over again. It is difficult (at least it was for me) and not something I want to repeat either. I can sure relate there!

Keep on keepin' on - one day at a time.

        thanks for your remarks.
this is my 2nd try at staying clean and sober, the first try i got confident too early.
        far too early.
good lord! i can't imagine working on my sobriety as much as I drank.
yikes! good point though. it's when i take it for granted that things creep up!
        good night!
