AF Daily - Monday October 19

    Holy sleepy Monday mornings, Batman!

Not often anymore that I get to start a thread anymore - and wow did Monday morning come way too fast. It's funny - I changed my alarm to wake myself up at 6am instead of 5:30am, as I have been having trouble getting up in the mornings recently and figured the extra 1/2 hour would help. Of course, my internal clock woke me up right before 5:30 this morning! Aside from the irony of it all, to me it was a microcosm of life. Despite my best-laid plans, things often never work out the way that I plan them, and I can either role with it or let it upset me (I was going to say that in the old days waking up early would have upset me, but I wasn't quite so concerned with getting an extra 1/2 sleep back then).

Anyway, I rolled with it (literally) and managed to get back to sleep for a couple of minutes. Life seems to go so much easier when I don't sweat the small stuff - even though it is still hard sometimes. The part I seem to find even harder these days is trying to impart that wisdom to my son, who seems to take EVERYTHING to heart that someone says. Guess that is just another example of not being able to control an outcome, right?

Anyway, hope everyone's week is off to a wonderful start!

Day one for me. Wish me luck!
I was doing well with moderation for a little while, but slipped right back to old patterns.
So I'll start my 30 days AF today.

      Hi guys,

Hope everyone is doing well! It seems that we are all having a hard time getting back into the Monday swing of things. I know I hate Mondays but it is my last week on the old job before I start with the promotion so it should make for a fairly easy week for me.

Looking forward to a relaxing evening with a hot bath and a book. I find that if I look forward to that it makes the day go by a little easier!

      Have a great day everyone.

      Love and hugs,
      Uni

Good Luck Iris. I am starting over today. Things have sucked lately, but I need to focus on positive aspects instead of all the negative that has occurred lately. Hopefully a clear head and clean body will help. Stay in touch.

          Happy unhung Monday ABeroooos!

AAth, thanks for the nice kickstart.

          Iris, I wish you strength

          Uni, promotion? way to go!

I'm enjoying my time at home before I blast off for a week of craziness on Wed. I'll be working through the weekend and probably some insanely long hours. I'm helping set up and run scenarios for simulated terrorist attacks on various assets such as oil refineries etc. should be exciting at any rate.

          be well peeps and peepers

              Good afternoon all!

Had a busy morning, couldn't get here till just now! My grandson (10 months old) arrives in a few minutes then I get REAL busy

Thanks for starting Monday for us AA! Monday morning have never been easy, have they?
Welcome to Iris & Maslow, wishing you both tons of strength for today & the week

Uni, sail thru this week with a smile - next week your new job begins, new possibilities!

Deter, what part do you play in setting up the scenarios? We had yearly 'Disaster' drills when I was still working in the hospital - it always involved a lot of running around & carrying a lot of weight. I was 45 when I participated in the last one........decided that was enough!!!

Anyway, wishing everyone a great AF day!

Sheez Det - sounds like an exciting weekend! Got me thinking about a movie quote - and you'll have to forgive my poetic license!

"You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In Las Vegas his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well Determinator was the best...." :H

                And the movie was???

Lav, have fun with the little one!

                  new goal

                  Hi all, :new:

I started my goal yesterday, (Monday) and it was AF for me. I spent all weekend getting my mindset to start being AF. It was draining, and I thought Monday would be hard, I managed ok, but it's just 1 day of many more to come.
My goal is to be AF for 4 weeks and then add on another month and another etc..
This is the biggest goal I have set myself, and the most important.

Leelou, congrats on getting through the first day - you should be proud of yourself. This journey of ours is never easy and each of us finds our own path to follow - but we all start with the same first step.

Keep up the great work, don't be too hard on yourself, and keep checking in here. Great group of people who want nothing more than to see you succeed!

AF Daily - Monday October 19

Hello everyone!! Happy Abland Monday. It's always much happier for me without a hangover, no matter what else ends up happening throughout the day.

AA, thanks for getting us started today!! I love the topic of "not sweating the small stuff." When I was drinking I got upset about absolutely everything it seems. I was either perpetually upset with something, or drunk as a skunk. Not much peace of mind that I can recall. (but I drank to "relax", right?????) Geez. What a hampster wheel that was. Sometimes the old habits are hard to change. But now that I DO experience peace of mind at least some of the time, I find that I want more of that!! And I can't have peace of mind if I'm running around the hampster wheel sweating every teeny thing that happens. The serenity prayer is my friend! (and of course it helps to not be all hung over and grouchy or drunk and grouchy all the time!)

Welcome Iris and Maslow and Leelou!! This journey is not an easy one, but it's well worth every bit of effort - at least that's how it has been for me. As a daily drinker for over 30 years, if I can do it then I know you can too. I hope the examples of sobriety you find all over this forum give you tons of hope that sobriety can be yours too. One day at a time - or one minute at a time at first, if that's what it takes.

Iris I can sure relate to the "moderate drinking" thing not working. It didn't even work for me for a little while! I find it's easier now that the decision is made - there will be no drinking. Less of those discussions / arguments going on inside of my head. Hope it ends up seeming easier just to stay AF for you too!

Leelou I see you are from Australia so a day ahead! I hope you will keep posting here with us any way. There is also a "day ahead" thread which I hope you have already found in the General Discussion area!

Maslow, I'm sorry that things have sucked lately. I hope you find that they suck less when sober. For me, I find I can deal with life's problems a LOT more effectively when I'm not drunk or hungover when trying to do that. Alcohol never makes problems better - only worse. WE CAN DO THIS!

Uni, a hot bath and a book is sounding good to me too! I hope you DO end up with a smooth sailing week before the promotion job kicks in - sounds like that will kick things up a notch at work for you!

Deter your work sounds really really interesting. I like AA's movie line. Now I can't wait to find out what movie that's from. Not Casino, was it?

Lav, I love the sound of your posts and the way you talk about taking care of your Grandson. Sobriety rocks, doesn't it?

Things are rolling right along in my part of the world. This afternoon it might actually be over 60 which is more like a normal temp for this time of year. We might actually get a couple of Indian Summer days this week!! I'm looking around my office and noticing that I really need to take care of some filing and cleaning. But that's small stuff in my book, so I ain't sweatin' it! Not today anyway!!

                        Strength and hope to all!

                        DG
