    AF DAILY Friday!

    Hello Abbers!
Gosh, I waited and waited, so I will start todays thread

Friday, one of the toughest days of the week for many new to living alcohol free.....so, what are everyones plans?

I have a lot of work to finish up today......I am taking my last personal day on Monday! So, I want to turn off my work computer at the end of the day and not think of it until next Tuesday!! Tonight I have a new book that I am going to dive in to. So...dinner at home, bubble bath and climb into bed with some herbal tea and READ!!!

Tomorrow it will be going to my daughers house for Trick or Treating with my granddaughters......I am still thinking as to whether or not I will wear a costume???

    Have a Wonderful Friday...All!

    xx Kate

    AF DAILY Friday!

    Hi Everyone,
Another rainy day. Ugh. I hope all is well. I don't have much to offer so far, which maybe is good? Still lots of work to be done and items to resolve. I guess that never ends. I will be restoring my faith in a higher power on Sunday by being baptised. I just wanted to share this because of anxiety (it's in front of hundreds of people) not to question anybody's religious or spiritual beliefs. Thanks for the support and I hope I can do the same for you all.

      I knew if I waited long enough.........:H

I got a netflix movie - don't remember what it is, but that's my plan.

Costume party tomorrow night, but I'm on the fence on that one.

Busy day at the computer here, so I keep peeping in.

        Darn, the last one disappeared.
Well, well, well, here are a couple of faces I remember. How are you all doing?
        Have a grand day.

          Kate - Don't Wait!! Abbinate!!

          TGIF to one and all!

I'm keeping strange hours today in honor of Cup of China - this week's stop on the Grand Prix of Figure Skating. American Evan Lysacek, who has previously dissed American Johnny Weir for his...shall we say....less than "macho" costumes unveiled this today. While in my humble opinion it is lacking in the sequin department, there is no question this getup is a figure skating costume. I love this sport.

          Yes, those are feathers

And then there is this one which really DOESN'T need sequins.

I got up at 1AM to watch this stuff, and then have since taken a short nap. I am SANE I tell you! SANE!!

          Anyway...

Kate, sounds like you have a good weekend planned with NO WORK. I vote you wear a costume! Why should kids have all the fun! Thank you for getting us started today!

Maslow, I think it is awesome that you are renewing your spiritual life on Sunday. It sounds like a very significant ceremony and I hope this step to deepen that side of your life gives you extra strength in all areas. I will be thinking of you!!

Greenie - don't be on the fence about the costume party!! Grab and ladder, your robe and some figs!! I love Netflix. If Mr. Doggy ever dumps me, I wanna come live at your house. Knowing about the ice cream in addition to the Netflix is what has me convinced.

Hi Lori! Life is good here. Hope the same is true for you!!

It has been awesome to have so many new AFers join us recently to share this journey into sobriety. Weekends are tough for many - so I'm sending out some PLANNING vibes to one and all! I still avoid social events where AL will also be there just like I avoid parties where ex-boyfriends will be there. :H But when I HAVE to go, like that Chamber of Commerce thing last night, here is what I still do:

          1. Eat before I go.
          2. Decide in advance what I will drink (non-AL of course).
          3. Decide in advance what I will say if offered an AL drink. (this is not as big of a deal as we tend to think it is - people don't care much what we drink so long as they can drink whatever they want!!)
          4. Have an exit strategy and get the sam hill out of there long before I cave into an urge!

Early on I had some "safe" lines in my hip pocket if questioned why I wasn't drinking. I'm on medication.... is a good one. It would take a real ass hat to try to force the issue on a person on medication! These days I'm more inclined towards a combo of honesty and humor...."trust me - you do NOT want me to drink!!" has crossed my lips a number of times. I have learned that all this concern over "what people think" is completely unfounded and a waste of energy. Who cares what others think anyway?? If *my* life is negatively affected by AL, then.....it's really not an issue for public opinion or debate.

A long long standing local politician was there and shit faced. I can't believe he continually goes to these public business events and makes an ass out of himself. I can't believe I used to do that. A look in the mirror is a good reminder sometimes. Another guy that I am involved with in a "buy local" organization is starting a campaign for public office. He ended up shit faced too. Is that a requirement for politics??? Maybe I could have been President after all. :H Kidding aside, I was very grateful to be sober. Some people dive into an active social / business social life more ambitiously / quicker than I have done. So I am just now learning to trust myself - that I can relate with others and engage in conversation and even share laughs - SOBER. And it's much better this way now that I'm getting used to it. None of those old regrets or "fuzzy" memories of what I said / did and whether it was appropriate or not.

Life is good. Strength and hope to all. By tomorrow I wont' know if I'm coming or going due to the figure skating schedule (starts at 1AM my time) but I LOVE it!! Couldn't have kept this schedule back in the drinking days either.

Another epic novel post complete! (I forgot the "pack a sandwich" disclaimer at the top!)

Wow, I'm sure glad I just ate before I decided to sit down and catch up here today!!:H Sorry, DG, but I must question the sanity of anyone that gets up at 1 am to watch ice skating--or anything else for that matter. Perhaps you should ask for TIVO for Christmas???

Thanks Kate for starting the thread today, and hello to Lorisunshine!!!

Our October snowstorm is over and melting rapidly so things are a muddy mess! Love the moisture, but yuck! The kids had 2 snow days from school, so my house needs some attention. Our drug/alcohol prevention coalition is sponsoring a Halloween dance for the kids and I volunteered for food and refreshments. We will be serving boogers on a stick, puking pumpkin dip (guacamole with chunks), monster eyeballs, skeleton dip, scabs and some kind of witches brew with floaties. I had my son make some cd's and I think it will be fun-I hope so anyway, otherwise it is just a lot of work for nothing! We will see.

I do need a costume, I found some silver plastic pants at goodwill, but haven't been able to come up with anything to go with them, so I need to dig into my box of masks.

This will be my 2nd sober Halloween.

            Have a good weekend all!:h

                LVT,

"puking pumpkin dip" sounds like many nights I have had. LOL--I think that will be my answer if anyone asks me to drink. "No thanks, not interested in puking pumkin dip tonight". Thanks for the laugh.
