Chief back in the AF house!

Day 3 here.....not too bad so far. Had a few "tense" moments yesterday when The Beast was starting to panic so he transfered those feelings to me....but I told myself this will pass and told The Beast that I was very sorry but I'm afraid our relationship is over. I'm sure he'll be back today but I'm stronger than he is. He already knows that, but is a stubborn bastard.

My wife and I are leaving for Michigan tomorrow to see her dad. He is dieing of lung cancer and his wife has to go to Indiana to visit her brother, who is not doing well. My FIL is very weak, lethargic, isn't eating, etc. He can't travel to Indiana and he can't stay alone, so MIL asked us to come up for the weekend to take care of him.

It's really upsetting to see him......my wife is taking it hard.

Well, have things to do to get ready....will check in later.

        Thanks everyone!

You know, it's only the start of day 3, but I feel so much better!

          Hi Chief,
I know this will be a difficult trip. I have had to deal with the dying process more than I care too. Is your FIL under Hospice care? I cannot say enough for hospice. They really help the patient, but they also truly help the family. Hospice helped me tremendously, both with my sister and my father. Hospice really helps the sick one and the family to maintain their dignity and to have peace.

Keep your resolve....do not allow yourself to sink into the horrible alcohol pitty pot! As you said to me...."Just DON"T Buy The Shit"! You have done this before.....you will do it again!

Peace and Comfort to you and your family,
          xxx Kate

Chief: I've had some pretty major family issues since becoming sober. It's so much better coping sober. Getting through difficulties almost becomes a spiritual experience. Contrast that w/my old way of drinking through it all. Doing that, I didn't learn a single thing about myself or my loved ones. Good luck in Michigan. Mary

              Hi Chief,

It is good to have you back again. :goodjob:I have always paid extra special attention to any posts from "Chief." I know that you can remain AF when you visit your FIL. It will be hard but just think how good you will feel about yourself later (and how much more present you will be for your FIL sober!).

I believe that you had a pretty good diet and exercise program going on in the past. I am hoping that you are jumping back on that wagon too. I find this to be such a strong foundation for my sobriety.

                  Chief,

Remember the Summer of 2007, those single digit days were damn important to us. These days are too--good work w/ day 3. I do hear the determination in your words. I'm with you brother.

Hi Chief! It is indeed awesome to have you back. You helped me so much on my journey and I hope I can help you back. Which of course includes :b&d: if needed.

I'm very sorry to hear about the difficult health issues going on within your family right now. I wish you well on your trip. Be safe, be sober.

                      Day 3 is done!

I've been busy all day getting ready to go to Michigan.....I had some pretty intense periods when The Beast was giving me every excuse there is to drink.

                      No fucking way.

Today is day 3 and I'm off to Michigan tomorrow to help take care of my FIL. It's not about me. I'll get days 4, 5, and 6 under my belt and it will be a good thing.

Thank you so much for your support....don't worry about me.

                      I'm done drinking.

                        Don,

No worries here just strength in thought. I'm off for a week on a family trip of my own but fortunately no health issues or end of life situations. Just a quiet trip, if that is possible with a nine year old, thirteen and fifiteen year old. I look forward to catching up when I return.

Until then, just take the beast to task one day or one hour at a time.
