Hi all and welcome Catch22! :b&d:

Caysea - sounds like good news on the knee!

Deter, interesting stuff. I will be back later to watch the vid.

It's a zoom zoom kinda day, but just wanted to be accountable and check in with a "Hill Intervals Complete!" message. I didn't feel like doing them at all today. Then I got started and didn't feel like pushing for more (or even equal to) my performance last time I did Hills. BUT. I said to myself "if I can quit smoking, and if I can quit drinking, no F*ing way is this dreadmill getting the best of me!!" So I did one more minute running than last time. Doesn't sound like much but by the time I'm on inclines of 7, 8, 9, and 10 I'm seriously pooped so ANY increase in running is a miracle!

Well, it's as crowded in here as my gym was yesterday - the New Year crew :H
I weighed myself at the gym and have put on 2lb over Christmas. Not bad, considering all the chocolate nuts I ate and that I couldn't make it to the gym for a couple of weeks.
Back into the routine now, though, and no more chocolate nuts!

          Hi abbercisers,

I'm in, health and excercise is my second priority this year, a continuation from my overdue start in October 09.

Both DH and I have healthy goals for this year, and Santa bought us a new bike each to fit into our weekly schedules. I have a great opportunity to ride to work everyday, which will be a first for me, as historically I am abit "unco" on a bike, but I'm about to teach myself and my body that that's old news!

I also plan in general to be much more active, look after my body and my health!

Tomorrow is our maiden ride, weather permitting, and I'm looking forward to it!

            Hi All
Tennis will be put on hold this week we have cold weather here in Fl. I got in a good upper body workout with the weights this AM. Then headed to the YMCA for a yoga class in the afternoon. Just what I needed to stretch out the back and legs. Had to be careful and listen to my knee. Went easy on a couple of the stretches. Felt great after the class.
A good time of year to work on your physical fitness level for what ever activity you enjoy in the spring

Well I lost 3 pounds last week! I had decided to walk to work everyday (90 mins total) but snowed in and skating cancelled.

So my plan is to stick to my 1200 cals a day for next 2 weeks and to bounce for 20 mins a day until I can do any other exercise - also got a cold too.
I'm still af and sf and not stranded in snow, in my nice warm house!

Hi abbercisers...I hope you don't mind if I join in here.
I'm a bit of a gym junky myself - average 4 times a week (2 x weights classes then a tai chi/yoga/pilates class & 2 x spinning + the tai chi class) However, I'm going back to work next week (got 2 kids almost 5 & 3)and so my routine will have to be reworked. I have a personal trainer on Friday mornings, will try for 1 weights class & 1 spin class on weekends and another workout on Wed mornings.
It's mid Summer down under so the bikini/budgie smugglers are already on...but I need to get AF again also & I know training is a big motivator for me.
Thanks for listening to me, I look forward to getting to know you all & sharing & inspiring/being inspired.

Hello abbercizers and welcome Angelcakes! Good to have you with us.

Congrats Bear on the lost pounds! :yougo:

Marshy - I fell your pain on that New Years crowd in the gym.

Caysea, I suspect you will be Super Tennis Man, a new Superhero by spring!! Hollywood will be calling!

Leelou, how was your bike ride with hubby on the new wheels?

                  :b&d:

Yesterday was a day off. Today was my heaviest workout of the week. Weights working a wide variety of muscles I didn't know I had, and then sprint intervals. It was great! My hip sometimes gives me trouble on body weight squats and sadly, I can't go as low as the "ideal" on those. So rather than try to be my own superhero today, I kept it within my realistic physical limitations, and then was able to complete a good, full workout including the dang sprints! :b&d:

I got my first feedback report from the new trainer, who not only got my written commentary but bikini pictures. I was glad to get his feedback as he saw what I was hoping I wasn't just imagining. In addition to a couple pounds of scale weight loss, I have some emerging abs and what is REALLY exciting me is some emerging muscle in my back that is normally completely hidden by that horrid back fat. So there is some progress! My diet is strict right now but with 5 meals a day, and an EXACT menu plan, it's really easy to follow it. My calories about about 1750 per day so I don't feel starving. There is room in my plan for 1 BAD off plan meal per week, or two modest off plan meals per week, so that keeps it real if I have a business lunch or family dinner or movie night with Mr. D or whatever. So far so good.

The other physical limitation bugging the crap out of me right now is this stinging in my elbows. The chiro is working on them and it seems to be helping. It's pretty much gone now on the right side, but still pretty bad on the left. I may not do bicep curls at all on Sunday if it's still bad then, which it probably will be. (chiro isn't until Monday) But you know what? I've been 29 for a LONG time so a few aches and pains is just part of reality I think. I just need to be sane in how I deal with it.

Well, that's my report! On plan so far for this week.

Wow Caysea - you're in FL, right? Too cold for tennis? WOW. Hope the citrus fruit is OK!!!

I am still on track workout wise!

                        Friday was Hill Intervals
Saturday was day off (I ate off plan intentionally at the seminar I attended, but then really ate crap when I got home. I have to get a handle mentally on my eating behaviors. One off plan meal does not need to kick off a binge! Sound familar??? anyway...
Today - Upper body weights and sprint intervals. My elbows, especially the left one are still giving me trouble and I couldn't do barbell curls at all today. I had to go a little lighter than I wanted on a couple other things. I'm seeing chiro tomorrow and must have a serious talk about what it's going to take to get this thing healed up. Might need to take time off of some exercises for a bit. I'm sure my trainer will have plenty of ideas on replacement activities! :b&d:

Have a great abbercizin' day everyone! :b&d::sofa::b&d:

                          Hi ab'cisers,

well I'm just getting back into a routine after holiday time. I thought I would go harder during time off work but that didn't happen. So now I am preparing to lift my game and start daily exercise again.

I have my new wheels now, and DH and I went for a practice run to my work, and commuting by bike is going to take less time than driving I think, and I will benefit from the daily commute physically!

My new bike is really nice, weights half of what my old one does and it fits me well. I'm so not a cyclist at all, I still find it amusing that I am even considering riding to work, but it's a 22k round trip, mostly on a bike path along the river, and I'm mad not to give it a go!

It got me thinking about my approach to the changes I'm making, and a part of me thinks im not cut out for new ways to tackle exercise etc and then I start realizing that it's all in my head how I approach things! Choose "can't" - then probably "won't"!
Choose "try" or "learn" and look at the opportunities open up!

I never realized how closed off I was to giving new habits a go, on the bike run we did to work, I was a nervous wreck, I worked myself up! Once I had faith in myself that I am capable, then the ride home was actually fun!

It just opened my eyes to see how much ones mindset can assist-or inhibit ones opportunity to make positive change, I am mentally preparing and gaining confidence in myself now, to embrace this years health challenges, and push them beyond what my old self would consider achievable. I am grateful that I can give new energy to new skills and I'm garenteed that results is what I will get in return!

This cold weather we're having is not conducive to exercise - I just want to stay indoors and eat hot pies. OK, so the gym is *indoors* but they don't sell pies!
Still, had a good workout and swim today.

You know all those offers the gyms do in January of free trials? I signed up for three free days at a gym near mine that I was walking past today and wondered what it was like. I went in and had a chat with one of the staff and it looks very posh and more about posing than getting sweaty, and the pool is much smaller than the one at my gym, but I'll give it a whirl and try some new classes there. I'm booked in for an induction on Sunday. One thing they do which I thought was good was set targets for health - weight loss, lower cholesterol etc - and if you make progress you get a free month at the gym or free sessions with a personal trainer.

Good to see what everyone else is up to!

Leelou, isn't it amazing how life just can EXPAND when AL is out of the picture? When I was putting so much energy into drinking / recovering from drinking, I guess I didn't have much energy left to really LIVE. You sound terrific and I'm glad your test run on the bike was so positive!

Marshy, can't wait to hear how the "other half" must live at a poshy gym!! Actually, a program providing some tangible reward for making progress sounds like something I could get into. Keep us posted!

I had my chiro appointment and I hope we figured out what's going on with my elbows. We think it might be a form issue in how I am gripping barbells / dumbells for certain types of work - bending at the wrist when I should not be, and gripping too tight. I'm so used to hearing the PT get after me about soft knees and strong core - she never once said anything about my wrists! It felt different just going through the motions with objects in chiros treatment area. Can't wait to see how the change suggestions pan out at the gym. I will be dropping the weight WAY back on the offending exercises, working to fix the form, then working the weight back up. We'll see what happens.

And I did my hill intervals today, and am getting ready to update my spreadsheet / clipboard for tomorrows day in the weight room!

                                Hi All
Great to get in a lifting workout this AM. Then a 2 hour hit with my tennis workout buddies this afternoon. Still cool down here in Fl but when you keep moving non stop on the court doing drills you keep warm.
Lee great to read about you getting involved in biking. I think we all benefit by trying different activities before we write them off as something we can't do. My wife and i enjoy Sat mourning bike rides and usually find different coffee shops to stop in and enjoy. We will do 20 - 30 miles but at a tourist pace. For me this is a nice break from when I am biking as a hard workout.
Dg be careful with the elbow problem. I have found as I have gotten older it is the joints that will give you trouble before the muscles when you are working out.
It is so good not only being with people who have decided to get al out of their lives but also have embraced through physical activity a healthy lifestyle. To regain control over areas of your life that you had lost control is such a good feeling.
