Hello all and sincere wishes to the snowbound ones - its horrible to be imprisoned when you don't want to be!
Beautiful day here, cold, sunny and crisp and i don't envy you the snow at all.
I won't be around so much this weekend as daughter home from uni and things always seem to get more complicated when she's around as I become chief cook, taxi driver, entertainments officer!
I'll log on when I can but if I'm not here much please don't worry - I'll be fine!
Take care of yourselves you special crewmates.

Lode - I just want to give you support with going NF, well done on day one!
I stopped nearly 14 years ago after attending an Allen Carr clinic and never looked back, so i wish you well. It was also his book on alcohol which has been my biggest help in recent times.

Hi everyone else, sorry for you guys who are snowed in. Sooty congrats on the dance class by Easter we will be a fit bunch in here and maybe need to make up our own little dance routine!

          Morning,
I have taken the day off! Seems crazy, I quit teaching full time and became a substitute teacher so I could do this, take the occasional day off, but it seems like I never do. Until today and it feels wonderful. Took a long leisurely run, now watching an ER rerun and enjoying a cuppa earl grey.
Have some errands to run, going to make a curry from cauliflower and garbanzos.

Lode, good luck with your staying nf today, is it day 2? I quit when I was pregnant ( a long time ago) cause smoking made me so nauseous.

All you Easterners, wishing you lots of sunshine. Maybe some of that white stuff will melt!

Sooty, do you live in Wales?

Chill, is it warm and sunny in Portugal?

          Later,
          Shelley

My heart goes out to all of you in the deep, deep snow. It is so beautiful at first and then can be so oppressive when another storm rolls in before the others have retreated. Until we got married, Lord Bird Heart had been living for a number of years in Minnesota and after a while the snow was just there always. The first few shovels are fine but after a half hour or so even the weight of the empty shovel would humble me. As a harbinger of Spring, yesterday in the mail I received four little packs of seeds from Seed Savers Exchange to add to my collection. Two sweet peppers, Buran and Jimmy Nardello?s, and two eggplant, Rossa Bianca and Pingtung Long. I shall soon plant them on a germination table along with a sampling of others I have saved which helps my mood when the cold endures too long. I used to drink most heavily in the cold months but times have changed. Enjoy your mini holiday, Sped. Love and warmth, Ladybird.
            may we be well

                  Hi friends,

A special mid-day pop in for me as a treat to myself after lunch (no smoking!). Thanks for the good wishes ~ so encouraging that many of you have quit (and that you did the Allan Carr, Chill! Whoohoo!). Day 2 is way easier than day 1 was, so far. My food tasted salty and I didn?t put any salt on it. Wild. Cold turkey here, Dill. I think it is the only way for me. I?m too sensitive to the medications.

Red~ so sorry to hear of your fender bender and also that you?re feeling blue. I wish we could head off for some exercise together! It always helps. The Midwest winters can be long and dreary, no doubt. I hope spring comes soon to where you are. :l

Dill~ you?re right, there has to be more than being AF and working. Gotta build in that play-time, gals! At first when I was AF, I couldn?t figure out what I liked to do for fun (because it all involved drinking before). Maybe we could share some of our things we do for fun.

Shelley ~ how nice to take a day off. Sounds lovely. You just made me pine for George Clooney on ER?those were the days.

Lav~ couldn?t see the link but I?m guessing it was of snow? Get some cocoa or something ~ quick!

Sooty~ have a terrific time with your daughter! We?ll miss you, but someone will steer.

LBH~ I don?t know what to say about these posts of yours. The way you write is well?just pretty extraordinary. Humbled by the empty shovel? Where have those words been all my life? :H

Hi Choppers & Sky! Hope to see you again soon.

It seems we?re missing a few shipmates this week, doesn?t it? I know Lil?s in FL (hope you?re enjoying it, lil!) but wondering about some of our other friends.

Sending a wave to MM, Finding, SD, Cyn, Openheart, Miss B, Fluff, Mandalay, Peanut and any others my nicotine withdrawing brain just can?t come up with. Hope everyone is taking good care out there.

                  Onward.

                    Hello again friends,

Sorry the link I posted earlier didn't work.
Hopefully this one will work. It's Maxie & me taking a break from shoveling

Our son was supposed to drive to DC to work today - he tried but didn't make it.
Our daughter & son-in-law, driving their Jeep with 4 wheel drive got stuck in a snow drift today & had to be towed out. What a mess!!

                    Hope everyone is doing OK!
Lode, try Commit Lozenges to take the edge off the nicotine cravings - they really helped me out tremendously
Hi Ms Sooty - we'll crown you the best sober bus driver from Wales that we know

Putting my tired feet up now.
Have a safe & cozy AF evening one & all.

                      Hey Lav,

How cool to see your picture! You aren't nearly as big or as blue as you pretend to be :H And man, that's a lot of snow!

                      Rest well.

                          FEB FAST ~ Week Two

Hey all. Sorry I haven't been around. I only have dial up and sometimes it's just not worth turning the computer on. I went window shopping yesterday. Darned if I know why - I hate shopping with a passion. But it must have been meant to be because I found a couple of nice cardies for "winter". My usual wardrobe throughout the year is shorts and t-shirt, but when the weather gets cooler I like a little cover up on the arms. Usually by the time I get around to shopping for the necessaries, my size isn't available or only rotten colours are left. So, this time I'm in with the colours of the season. Not that I care about that one way or the other.

Dill, I did read the dictionary when I was a kid. From cover to cover. I'm a really good speller. :H

Lodes, good on ya for giving up the smokes. I've been off them for a year now, but I still crave one every now and then. But usually I don't even think about it. :goodjob:

Lav, nice to put a face to your name. Thanks.

Chilly, what a nice thing to say. And no prob about replying to your friend's post first - I just happened to be around at the time. I hope I was some help.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone and I hope to catch up over the weekend. I have a monster gardening task to attend to first.

                          Love Sky :beach:

Lavande, loved the snowy picture. We have alot of snow too, usually do all winter, but it seems like you got hit with alot. Snow is really beautiful, and I love it, especially in the beginning. But by now, it is getting oppressive. We have about a foot of snow, and really, it was just not too big of a deal. We just drive through it, taking our time. I am lucky, I live close to my work, so don't have to deal with highways and all that stress.

Thanks dill, lodes, and everyone who acknowledged my whining and bad mood. It IS hard to deal with the negative feelings without the booze, at least short term. But, feelings come and go. I am just trying to deal with my feelings, get through them. IT is Friday, afterall.

We had a crisis with money and one of our kids, and I never thought of drinking. My husband did, but I said, "NO WAY." I am determined to make it through another weekend AF. I want to get off work early if I can, rest a little, then clean so everything smells good and looks crisp and cozy. Then I plan on creating a new recipe from the site Lavande recommended, a vegan dish of tofu, brown rice and mushrooms. Right now it sounds good, I hope I have all the ingredients. I need miso paste and cannot find it.

Lodes, you stated we have to find other things to do or list the things we like to do:
                            Read,
Talk to loved ones on the phone
                            Surf the internet
                            watch TV, Movies
                            Exercise (I used to)
                            listen to music
                            cook new recipes
                            enjoy my cats

Not very exciting, but it is what I like to do on my time off. OK everybody, your turn.
Have a great AF day. I hope to check in later. Thanks all for being there, I was thinking what great friends we are to each other. Strength and hope.

                              Hi Feb Friends,

What I like? The same as Red, except substitute 'dogs' for 'cats' and add taking walks!
Lav, thanks for the pic! Very nice one, and wow, that's a lot of snow! You got more than us, I think, but not much more.
Lodes, good going on the cig quit! You are amaizing!
Sky, great to see you. I can't imagine using dial-up! Is that all that is available to you?
LBH, I am looking through seed catalogues these days. Add that to the list of things I enjoy doing! The cilantro, parsley, and basil I started on January 1 are doing fine. The chives never germinated although I sowed them twice. I had to put grow lights over the little plants. I think we have had sun maybe 2-3 times since I started them. SIGH.
Sped, I just wish I was retired. That sounds lovely! I am going to keep on going until the end of the 2012 school year. I can't imagine being a sub. That's got to be one of the hardest jobs ever!
                              Peace and strength to all!
                              Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

                                Hello everyone,

Just a quick fly by here. We have been in Orlando with my daughter for the last few days. We are heading down to Key West this morning for a few days.

I hope all are doing well and I am sorry I don't have time to catch up with everyone.

Got to get off here. Hubby is standing in doorway, jingling car key, wanting to leave.

                                Everyone stay safe and warm.
