AF daily - Friday April 9th

Butterbutt. I eat real butter so I'm wondering about my butt.

Here's a tidbit for you. In my e-mail today. EWG is Enviornmental Working Group.

You know that EWG is the expert when it comes to protecting your family from toxic chemicals. And CNN agrees with you.

Recently, EWG President Ken Cook met with CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta in Mossville, Louisiana, where they talked about the impacts of toxic chemicals on human health.

You can watch this interview on Sanjay Gupta MD this Saturday or when it re-airs Sunday (April 10th and 11th) at 7:30am ET.

We hope you can tune in to hear this interesting conversation.

EWG is an extensive group. One section I like is Skin Deep. You can look up cosmetic type products by company, product, or ingredient and see the rating realtive to toxicity. Lets say I want to try a new face sunscreen this summer that is on sale. I look here first to decide if I'm interested. Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Reviews

Hi again! This will be a fast in and out so BIG wave to everyone and welcome Nils!

:H on the mower stories. Especially ones that call you on your cell phone. There is a really funny "afternoon commute" radio talk show guy here in this area who interviewed a guy the other day who says he had an affair with a dolphin. And he says she started it. :H Greenie, if you ever have an affair with your lawn mower, I think we can get you on the radio and help you to fame. Maybe not fortune, but fame at least.

This is not a specific caution to any product on the EWG database. Just passing along some info I got last summer from a local lady who makes soap and body lotion very naturally. She said to be a little cautious with that database because in some products that are toxin free, they are also preservative free and spoil very quickly. Using a spoiled product without knowing it can be as bad as using something with preservatives. It's a real balancing act I know. I tried to go without anything much on my skin but gave up. I couldn't stand it!

Butter Butt. I have no idea what it is, but it sure has a funny name!

I saw Sister for breakfast and she thanks you all profusely for your prayers. Greenie, yes she carries some pain. Sister's current sponsor was with her (drove her to a doc appointment) and it was good to spend some time together. She is a nice woman and a breast cancer survivor herself, so that is excellent for Sister. One of my home group's annual bowling outing is this Sunday and Sister is going. And planning to bowl. How does someone in a walker bowl? I guess I'll find out. :H Should be a hoot.

The presentation this morning went fine. I only had 10 minutes so had to really think about key points and brevity. But I did want to give a feel for the benefit of getting to try products before buying. So I "volunteered" a helper. Of COURSE I picked a guy! :H He used the Satin Hands set which is a skin softener, then exfoliant, then moisturizer. At first his face was like an :ewwwww: smilie. But by the end he said HEY! This really DOES feel good! (lots of men use that product so it was strategic!) Anyway, it was a hoot.

Marshy tonight is AA, Alanon and who knows who else. Probably 8 people. It will be great practice for the one in a couple weeks that will definitely be "and how do you know DG???"

OK - back to party prep!

Oh - LVT - I'm totally all over that anti-aging stuff. Bring on the poison. It's not easy being 29 this long.

Ok, here is the link for anyone that is interested. The skin deep site is really interesting. One of my questions now is: What is worse, the sun or the sun-screen?

DG-my friend said, most of the otc lotions contain water, which causes the products to spoil-hence the preservatives. A reason she only makes creams, and they obviously do have a much shorter shelf life even if refrigerated.

And seriously, a man was seduced by a dolphin? I guess a mower is not that far out there!

            Sunscreen

My dermatologist recommends Blue Lizard Sunscreen, an Australian based company. I've been using it for years. They have a sport/waterproof version too.
