    15 dizzy days

15 days af n i'm missing al desperately. Something is missing in me n no matter what I try to do its always there. The hold over me is getting stronger rather than weaker I'm scared that it will become unbearable n I'll give in even tho I want to. I'm sorry if its negative post n if it doesnt make sense my head is all over the place. I do want to get to a month abstinence but I'm not sure I can feeling like this.

Hi Shambles. I can completely understand how you feel. AL is so addictive and it is NOT easy to give it up. There was an empty hole inside of me too. What I have found out is that no amount of alcohol could ever fill the void. It was alcohol that CAUSED the void. I withdrew from life bit by bit until my life was but a shell of a life, and I just wanted to be left alone to drink.

It has taken a lot of work and a lot of pain to break free. BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT!!! It takes time - more than 2 weeks and more than a month. But if you stick with AF, you CAN get free.

Are you busy doing things? I had to keep busy. Go out and walk or exercise. Clean a closet. Go to a movie. Make a long list of things you can do instead of drink. For me, if I stayed busy the initial AF time passed much faster.

I went from daily drinking and complete desparation (I was seriously considering suicide!) to being almost 2 years AF. My life has completely turned around and yours can do. Please don't give in. AL kills.

      Hi Shambles,

I agree completely with DG - staying busy is the key!!
Pay some real attention to livng healthy. Be sure you are eating well, drinking plenty of fluids, taking vitamins, getting some fresh air, etc. It all really helps. The feeling better part will come, it just takes some time to heal.

Congrats on your 15 AF days - that's great work
Try to not worry too much about the future - focus on yourself today!

      Wishing you continued success!

I would echo what these wise women before me have said. It would also be good to work very hard at changing your mindset about alcohol. Tell yourself that you are not "depriving" yourself. Rather, you are making positive changes to live a more authentic and healthier life. If you continue feel deprived over not drinking, it will make you more vulnerable to drinking again. Write a list of all the things you would like to do now that Al is out of your life.

          Hi Shambles,
First of all, congratulations on 15 days, that is quite an accomplishment in itself! I agree with the previous posts that staying busy is essential in the beginning, BUT, I also do have to put my 2 cents in here At the beginning for me, I spent a lot of time doing nothing, and I allowed myself to do just that. Dont set high expectations that set you up to fail. If that's not your thing, take a walk, watch a movie, relax in a hot bath, read a book, whatever it takes to get you through the difficult first days (or weeks even). You CAN do this, as many others on this site have proven. The good "stuff" will happen, just be patient, and don't expect it to happen suddenly. Keep close to this site, read, post and share your journey...we care and are here to support you. Keep up the good work!
