Journey through June - week 1

    Hi everyone

Chill - I can so relate to the inner critic. I too am a bit of a perfectionist. I was also an only child and there was always a lot of expectations. I know a lot of my blocking out goes back to my childhood. Glad you enjoyed your cycle this morning.

Sooty - Hope you daughter is soon ok.

Sped - Hope your vacation is going ok and that you are staying strong.

Molly - Welcome on board. I imagine your daughter has had to go to Canada because of the current economic situation? We lived there for 5 years, loved it but wanted to come back to Ireland. Sometimes I wonder if we made the right choice.

Dill - Bet you are really looking forward to the end of school year. My oldest daughter finished today. The other one has exams starting on 9th June.

Star - Safe travels this week-end.

Lav - Hope the poison ivy clears up.

Another beautiful sunny day so off outside to finish off some painting. Hope you all have a great week-end.

      Hi everyone.
Dill - no she hasn't qualified yet but is hoping to work with adults with swallowing problems if she can find a job!
Lav - poison ivy? what is that - some sort of allergy? it sounds awful
Chill thanks for sharing that stuff - you are right it does make sense, all of it!
Rust good to see you hope the painting goes well, it would certainly dry quickly here -its boiling hot!
Sped and Star - have a good trip both ofyou.
Spud - hope you are ok.
Molly - good to see you and to anyone I've missed have a great AF Friday.
      See you all later

        Just for you Sooty

Mayo Clinic medical information and tools for healthy living - MayoClinic.com

Poison ivy grows all over the place, you never notice it until it's too late. Unfortunately some of us are very sensitive to the oils on the plant - causes an ugly, blistering, very itchy rash. Boo Hoo!!!!
I come into contact with it while I'm out weeding certain areas such as around by mailbox on the road.
Some people have spouses who are not sensitive to poison ivy & they should be here doing the weeding..........

Had an interesting afternoon with my daughter. The owner of an empty storefront in town offered my daughter free use of the front window to use as advertising space for her dog training business. So we went, cleaned up the space & decorated with all of her materials. Turned out great, hope it brings her more biz!

Storms rolling thru now - good thing to break up this 3 day 90+ degrees heatwave!
        It's HOT!!

Journey through June - week 1

          Good Evening Abbers,

I have been responding to posts for the last hour since my conference ended and I keep getting kicked off by this Dayton hotel's ISP.

Lav, on with the Calamine lotion. Bummer!

Dill-I agree that's what I used alcohol for....I'm not a perfectionist either. It just tasted good and I could just relax, hang out, etc.

Molly...I am so sorry you feel that loneliness with your daughter leaving but I totally understand.

Star, Chill...I am my own worst critic! Everyone keeps telling me not to beat myself up so much. I have done this all my life.

Sooty-sorry to hear about your daughter's injury and hope she heals fast....what a drag because summer is upon us :-(

Star-I love your avatar because I think lilies are my favorite flower. When I buy fresh flowers, they are always in my bouquet, so when I buy another one, I will think of you :-)

          Sped-how are you doing?

Spuddle-you are right about negative thoughts. I just made a tough decision to get someone negative (and sober for 9 years) out of my life. I don't have time to be dragged down with all her negative and nasty thoughts about me....I'm fat...etc. And she's too f*ing stupid to figure out why I don't want to spend time with her.

Rustop-I think it's great you paint-I'm going to TRY....I emphasize TRY to paint soon. Ugh. Wish me luck (tee hee)

          Day 6 AF for me.

Check in later when I fly home from Dayton. "I'm a leavin on a jet plane...don't know when I'll be back again..." ---Peter, Paul and Mary.

            Hello All,

It's been awhile sense I have checked in. I'm still sober and life has been good, bad and in between. For some reason summer is harder than winter but I knew that so I was prepared.

I have found out I am going to be a first time grandmother. A little grandson due in Oct. Just one more reason to stay sober.

I am raising a 2 week old kitten. Luckly it does have a home as soon as I get it weaned.

I am in the middle of a big remodel but hopefully will been done in the next couple of weeks.

Very busy, which I wouldn't have been if I was still drinking. All around I feel content. I guess that's what its all about.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Wishing you all an AF and peaceful evening.
            AF since 7/26/2009

              Good morning everyone

Lil- thanks so much for posting. It's great to hear that you are busy and AF. Sometimes when you dont hear from people in a while you worry as it could be that they are drawn back into their old Al lifestyles.

Awake early and unhungover this Saturday morning. Last week-end seems to have been a one off with a sleep in till 10 am. Oh, well will take the doggies for their walk and enjoy the peace of the early morning before everyone gets up. Life is so much better AF.

              Have a great Saturday everyone.

Lilm - So good to hear from you, congratulations on your approaching Grandmotherhood!!!
Lav is our resident expert here on surviving energetic grandchildren...

Rustop - Im just back from my dog walk this morning, what a joy when feeling good, I can remember last year dragging myself out in this heat with a stinking hangover, dehydrated with head thumping, oh to be sober!

Lav - We dont get poison ivy in Europe but I have heard how nasty it can be :l

No set plan for today, there is a saxaphone player early evening in one of my local beach bars which sounds like a nice way to watch the sunset....

                  Good morning friends!
It's overcast here and I am getting off to a slow start. It will be a busy day for us as we will have to get our Saturday chores done and then spent the rest of the day engaged in a celebration of a wedding! I'm looking forward to it. I am positive there will be al at the reception, but I hope to drink diet ginger ale and club soda.

Lil, great to see you post!!!

                  Have a great day, all!

Journey through June - week 1

                    Good Morning Fab Abbers,

Day 7 AF for me! I was at a conference yesterday in Ohio and a bunch of my co-workers went out to the bars on Thursday night. Well, yesterday morning one of my bar-hopping co-workers said Good Morning! to me and said he missed not having me join them. Well, I'll tell you, he reeked of bourbon and and I thought I was going to vomit. Then I cringed at the thought that I probably smelled like that too, too many times :upset:

                    Spud-how are you?

Lav-Ugh, poison ivy. I had it really bad like you when I was 10 years old and my mother thought I had german measles. Great news about your daughter's new storefront for her dog training business.

Sooty-That is exciting news that your daughter wants to be a speech therapist. I know 3 of them (including Dill) and they are some of the wisest and most compassionate people I 've ever known.

Cihill-I know what you mean about walking the dog with a hangover. I have walked my dog hungover so many times I lost count. Now he has a sober mommy who runs while she walks him. We get back from our walk and he's worn out!:H

Dill-Enjoy the wedding and bravo for having a plan in place to be AF. From everything I've read, that's the key! Hopefully the weather will be cooperating. It was so hot in Dayton yesterday.

Lilmea-great to see you and congrats on being a new grandma

                    Rustop-hope you enjoy your day.

Star-I reread your post from yesterday. It was so thoughtful. I really enjoyed it.

                    Well, off to the gym.

Have a wonderful AF day everyone!

Hello everyone and thanks for the link Lav. I don't think that I'd ever realised that poison ivy was a plant ...I only know its name from the old rock and roll song and for the life of me I can't remember who sang it - "late at night while you're sleeping poison ivy comes a creeping - look but you'd better not touch - it all makes sense now only about 40 years later Anyway I hope the itch is subsiding and you are more comfortable.
Lil lovely to see you back with us and many congrats.
Rusty I know what you mean about smelling booze on people - its absolutely horrible.
Its been hot here today but cold and rain is forecast from tomorrow - well it is June in the UK what else do we expect?
Have a good Saturday everyone - hope the wedding went well Dill and you drank the ginger beer fountain dry!

I sure am scratching like a hound dog right now :H:H:H

Removing the poison ivy every year just doesn't stop it from growing back. While on a search & kill (ivy) mission today we also found sumac. There's no end to the itchy possibilities in my yard

Wishing everyone a restful AF evening. Expecting rain here in these parts tomorrow as well.

                                Happy sober Sunday!

I have been invited out to lunch by a girl from my AA group but apart from the two of us the rest of the crowd (about 8 of them) are all Irish heavy drinkers! I did hesitate before saying yes but its a stunning day and they are going to my favorite beach restaurant. I know them all and I will be Q'd as to why Im not drinking as in the past I have been part of their all day sessions. This is why I hesitated, not because I will be tempted, in fact they are all a very good reminder why I dont drink! Anyway, I 1st thought do I want to have to explain myself, then I thought sod it! Im not ashamed of my new healthly life style and everyone says my appearance has changed so dramatically that im a great advert for sobriety. So today my friends Im going to flaunt my happy smiling face, clear blue eyes and healthy glowing skin...... im proud to be sober
