Journey through June - week 1

      Good unhung morning!

Chill, you are right! Shout it loud and proud! Have fun, too.

Lav, I'm sorry you are itching. I am so careful to watch for poisen ivy. I got a bad case last summer, as I recall. We seem to have a lot cropping up in our yard this year. We will be spraying it with a broad leaf herbicide as soon as weather settles down! Have you ever tried zanfel? I haven't tried it yet.

Rusty, I'm glad you resisted going out with your friends, drinking. Reeking of bourbon? Not good! As for me, I did make it through the wedding reception af. They didn't have diet ginger ale, so I had a diet sierra mist (like 7-UP). I don't think I've ever been to a wedding reception sober. It was a new and a good experience. More than once I thought about how much of a culture of drinking I come from. Growing up, weddings were all about over-indulging. It seemed like all the adults drank and got loud. As I became an adult, I looked forward to weddings with "open bars". Yesterday was such a wedding reception. It was tricky for me at first, to walk away from free drinks. But, I'm glad I did.

      It's storming here right now.

I wish a good af day to all!
      Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

        Hi Dill,

I was looking for you this morning. Great job on the AF wedding. Weddings are tough, aren't they....but you did it, and I'm so proud of you. I totally understand what you mean about the drinking culture. I had the same experience with my family. Alcohol was everywhere. What was so hard for me while I was trying to quit was that I travel so much and because all the mileage points I have, I end up flying business class most of the time, where the booze is free, and then I have a membership in the Sky Club....more free booze. Sometimes, it's just so hard to avoid it. I'm sending you a PM, too.

Antabuse....yeah, I tried it just a few months ago, but had a horrible reaction to it when I used that Purell Hand Sanitizer. It's worked wonders for K-9 and she has not reported any negative effects. I took Naltrexone for a few weeks and then switched to a low dose of Baclofen and I am now 8 days AF because of it.

It looks like it's going to be a nice day so my flight should be ok.

Have a wonderful alcohol day AF everybody.

Journey through June - week 1

          Good morning June friends,

          Safe travels again Rusty!

Congrats on your AF-ness at the wedding reception yesterday Dill
My DIL's parents are non-drinkers & wanted the kid's wedding reception to be AF. My son is a firefighter, all of his friends too. They love to have a few beers when they are off duty but they understand safety. So we did have an open bar at the wedding but no one abused it - not even me & that was nearly 4 years ago.

The longer this uncertainty, regarding Mr Lav goes on the happier I am being AF!
The man is chronically depressed although still denying the fact. His thinking makes absolutely no sense to me. One thing I do know for sure is that I am NOT falling back into the depression trap with him again.

Well, I'm off to the store to pick up some things for my favorite dinner date He loves meatballs & chicken - makes my shopping trip easy!

Wishing everyone a wonderful AF Sunday.
          Lav
          AF since 03/26/09
          NF since 05/19/09
Success comes one day at a time

Journey through June - week 1

            Hey y'all,
So good to read posts from so many people. I am hanging in there. Having a very insightful journey this June, just like our name implies. Am hanging out at my oldest son's apartment (complete with well stocked liquor cabinet) watching his kitties for the weekend while he visits his fiance in San Fran. Son #2 off mountain climbing. Great long run with son #3 this morning. Managing to all come together tonight for Thai food in LA. I am amazed and appreciative of my sobriety. Feeling like my sons are a bit amazed too, like jeez she really did FINALLY stop drinking! I ditto what Doggie girl always says...something about if I can do it, anybody can do it.

Cheers for you Chill! I've always wondered why people struggled with coming up with an excuse to explain their not drinking alcohol. Seems like a simple "I don't drink" works for most questioners. If that leads to further discussion, it's fine with me.

Lav, totally sympathize with your poison ivy plight. Don't believe there is poison ivy in NM because if it existed, it would find me. My worse case ever was riding a bicycle through some smoke that resulted from burning a field of poison ivy. I ended up in an ER. Ever try Aveeno Oatmeal Bath?

Dill, are you done with school? My closest friend in NM is an SLP. I'll say one thing about the speech therapists I know, they love to talk.

Lil, good to see you posting. Still planning on Indiana in July. Get that humidity machine cranked up for me!

Rusty, old bourbon breath! Old any alcohol breath the next morning is one good reason never to indulge in the first place. And all the tooth brushing and mouth wash gargling just doesn't make it go away!

Hey Spuddle, hang in there. For me it was so easy for one slip to become a weekly and then once again a daily occurence.

Just a note on antabuse for those of you considering it. I only take half a tablet 2 times a week. That's enough to keep me from drinking but hand sanitizer, al based sun screens, those things don't bother me. It's worked for me; 10 months next week!

Summer seems like an especially hard time to stay sober. And it seems like in southern California everyone starts drinking at lunch!

So glad you all are there for me. Later.

Journey through June - week 1

Hello! I have had a hard time posting but now there is time and there is a new hard line and battery back-up devoted to this machine alone which given the impending onslaught of circuit breaking machines should keep at least my heart circuit from breaking in the midst of trying to work while the floors are (once again in a different place) being refinished. I have not posted as everything since we have been back from SF has been dedicated to chaos and I must say it is wearing on me by the minute. My beastly inner critic (the 80% trigger who in my case usually won't shut the f-up, thank you for the structure, Chill) is dead silenced only by being overwhelmed, and now I am looking for Dill?s 20% dark room, mine is a floaty, fuzzy, solitary one. I guess I have had a 100% chance of being an alcoholic but you already know that. I have to work hard tomorrow (driven by Lord Bird Heart) to another town, race back for yet another eye appointment which I hate more than death at this point, work harder at writing up my assignment during the night before the movers come Tuesday to take away everything I have not already stashed frantically for hours in the last week (or donated, earlier we took more than five hundred books to the library, now a similar number of CDs), and then ?The Machines? come back on Wednesday. These mechanical puppies can grind away Gibraltar and what passes for my soul in about six hours. Also, and not anticipated, it is a record one hundred (100) degrees, and we will not be able to use our evaporative cooler for three or four days. I feel doomed to fry. I am actually freaked. Please have a cold, cold alcohol free beverage for me in a sweet quiet spot and send me the peace. I am so glad you are hanging in there, Shelley, and I have loved all the posts, Rusty, Rustop, Lav, Sooty, Spuddle (hold on, I understand opening the floodgates), et. al. Love, Ladybird.
              may we be well

                Good morning everyone

Great to see everyone having such a great week-end AF. Well done Dill on the wedding. Hope your lunch went ok Chill. Most people dont care if you drink or not and the heavy drinkers are just worried about getting enough themselves.

Today is a Bank holiday here. Hubby is away and one of my daughters is starting her exams on Wednesday so spending a quite enough week-end. It rained most of yesterday but is fine this morning so off for my walk with the doggies. How, I managed to do all this hungover never ceases to amaze me but I certainly didnt enjoy the early mornings the way I do now.

                    Happy Monday Guys!

Dill - Great job on walking away from these drinks!

Rusty - you do an amazing job staying AF on your travels especially with Sky Club membership.

Sped - I was glad to get the vibe from your post that you are in better spirits. Being sober here in summer is going to be quite something for me.

LBH - I so love reading your posts but im trying to work out whats going on with you, are you moving house?

Rustop - I often wonder as i move through my day how the hell i managed it before with a hangover!

Sooty - Come back to us soon..

I have been out cycling in the sunshine and off now to tackle my to do list...

                      Good morning June friends,

Today I'm sporting a brand new crop of itchy hives between the fingers on my right hand......OMG!
I go thru this nonsense almost every year - isn't it someone elses turn??

LBH, wonderful to hear from you. Check into a hotel for a few days friend! Floor refinishing is a horror, I have been thru it. Hope your Doc Appointment goes well!

Shelley, I'm so happy to hear your adventure is going well. Enjoy that precious time with your boys

Sooty, if you need help driving the bus this week please let me know! Hope you & your daughter are healing well.

Greetings to Dill, Rusty, Rustop & Chill! Wishing everyone a wonderful AF Monday!
I have a full day with my little buddy today while his Mom is in class. Thankfully the weather has cooled down 20+ degrees so some outside time is in order

Dill, I hope you survived the weekend storms - saw the news about the tornado in Ohio, very sad.

                      I'll be back later.

                        Good morning everyone

It's a foggy, misty morning here but nice in its own way. Was out with the doggies at 7.30 for a walk and I quite enjoyed it.

My daughter starts a portfolio course today so I have to up and moving early. If she decides to go to art college she will need a portfolio so this two week course gives her some idea of whats involved. Other daughter starts exams in the morning so lots of stress around!!

Hope you are all having a great week. Will catch up on the posts later.
