Should I drink alcohol free wine?

Rebirth - You have just completed your 1st month AF and in the early days it is SO important to have no trigger or temptations in your way. It has to be the no.1 priority in your life bar none. You will go through different stages at which time you will probably be ok with your partner drinking in front of you but for now if he can understand how important this is for you thats great. You certainly dont need him to be in the huff that you are ruining his fun so be careful it worries me that you said he is annoyed.

for the 1st couple of months I rarely was in the company of drinkers then as I felt more confident I started to go out more with friends for dinner. Even at 3/4 months I found dangerous triggers going back to places where I associated with drinking and I still find airports and planes difficult as i always used travelling to get plastered! Only last month did I finally buy alcohol and have it in the house for guests and that was a huge deal to me. All these are stepping stones to recovery and its important you go at your own pace.

AF wine is a complete no no, its creating an illusion that you are still drinking. We have to face our issue with AL and embrace sobriety as our friend and be proud of it.

The AF wines taste awful, in my experience. Fruit juice mixed with seltzer is much better tasting. There have been several threads started under General Discussion about alternate (AF) beverages.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

I agree with Sunbeam - AF wine is FOUL stuff. Don't waste your money. When you said "salivate" I started to - that's something I found slightly disgusting when I reacted to pictures, TV commercials, etc, this way. It's actually common (just weird!), and still happens sometimes. Pavlov's alcoholic dog.... :H

Dancelot thats interesting cause you have not had a drink for nearly a year. Do you think its the taste that makes you "salivate" or the intoxication of the alcohol?
I hope I am still posting a year later and I can answer my own question to this particular thread.
              please please please

Should I drink alcohol free wine?

Rebirth - I didn't get that from the AF wine - that stuff didn't taste like any wine I'd ever had - grape juice would have been more like wine.

It doesn't happen as often, but occasionally does (like your earlier post - I think seeing the words "salivate & alcohol" together). It's the idea of it (alcohol), like if I see a commercial for cold beer on a hot day. At one week AF, I opened the refrigerator and saw a 24 oz. Red Stripe beer my roommate had bought. I used to drink a lot of those. This thing looked gigantic and godlike compared to a regular 12 oz. (I'm not exaggerating!) and cold and covered in frost & water drops - like they make them look in commercials. See, I even remember the day! :H

At first especially, beer commercials (during any type of sports, they show them over and over) would do it, but also billboards, even magazines. Ugh, just writing this is doing it - and it's not like "I want/need a drink", or consciously wishing I could. I really don't, and don't think about alcohol, except for it's disgusting to put it in your body. I think it's like a reflex really.

A guy in AA that has 25+ years mentioned it one time. I have no idea if it still happens after that amount of time, but given our weird minds, it wouldn't surprise me. What's funny is I posted about it when it happened, describing it in great detail, how it looked, made me feel, then realized rereading it, it looked like porn for alcoholics! :H

Dancelot -ha ha porn for alcoholics. Sums it up perfectly

I totally relate to this reflex you are describing. My eyes become big and my ears twitch when I see any drinks commercial. It's like a newsflash has come on giving out a very, very important message.
The drinks aisle at supermarkets have a flourescent glow ( I actuelly visualise "do not enter..ever" signs at these aisle. If I see people drinking wine/ beer everything goes into slow motion..as...I..watch ..them..take..that ...swig.

It's early days I guess. I use to be a heavy smoker and I quit 7 years ago for good. Initially I was on the patches, then I tried to find some type of stick to put into my mouth as a substitute. Now I have no compulsion to smoke and it doesnt bother me if people smoke in front of me. But I do know that if I smoke one cigarette then I rekindle my nicotine addiction.I am hoping it's the same pattern with AL.

So I wont be buying any type of AF drink
