    Abbercisers .......

Hi Folks - I am happy to see this thread. I am a fitness enthusiast and took off about 35 pounds 2 years ago. I worked with a personal trainer for about a year which was very helpful for me. Learned lots about proper form and nutrition and how to stay motivated. Happy to say that I have maintained the weight loss 2 years later.

My biggest passion over the last 1 1/2 years has been running. I have run 3 half-marathons, 10 5Ks, 1 10K and 2 10-mile races. Unfortunately, I had a mishap in my kitchen 3 weeks ago, dropped a knife, lacerated my foot, and severed a tendon Had to have surgery on the foot so I will not be running for a couple more months. But, I will be back!!!

In addition to exercise, proper nutrition is one of the most important components of a healthy lifestyle for me. (By the way, being AF is also an important component and I am just starting to tackle that goal). What works best for me is to eat smaller portions (no brainer, huh?) more frequently. And, I always balance a meal with protein and carbohydrates. Yes, it does take planning but it really does pay off in the end.

I wish you all best of luck with your exercise goals. I will be watching on the sidelines for a few more weeks before I can return to the gym....

Ow, PA. And frustrating. I took a tumble down the front steps in January (completely sober, didn't even have that excuse), and that was really the impetus to get myself moving again. I'd bet there's yoga or pool work you could find that could be adapted around your injury until you're ready to run again, just so you don't feel like you're turning back into jelly.

BTW, I'm really annoyed that you have one more dot than me on the Drink Tracker, but I'm trying to "Live and Let Live." : )

Drink Tracker Wars!!! Hey. The one with the most zeros wins. I hope it's a tie with everyone getting all zeros!

I've only been able to work out twice this week. The A/C at my curves was damaged in a storm late last week. Closed on Saturday and Monday. I worked out Tuesday and Wednesday. Doors open, fans going. Only open until 10:30AM. It was actually a great workout in that heat with terrific sweating. I could just imagine the toxins pouring out! (of course lots of hydration going on to complement that!

Unfortunately today i didn't get there until 10 after 10 so she had already shut down the computers on the circuit. :upset: I could have gone to an alternate location and worked out, but didn't really have time - was a busy day. (excuses excuses!) We shall see what tomorrow brings.

In good news, I was within goal range for the second week of six towards making "Lifetime Member" at weight watchers. I think working out in 85 degrees sweating buckets helped save me on the weigh in that followed. :H

Hey Pride - Don't be annoyed that I have 1 more dot than you - do I sense a competitive spirit?? Not to worry, I am not the least bit competitive. I just want to believe in myself that I can do this! It's a great feeling to know that there are others right there with me.

DG - as much as I like to exercise, doing it in the heat and humidity is the absolute pits! I ran a 10-mile race in May and it was 82 degrees at race time. I think that is the longest 10 miles I ever ran!!! I am sure you already know this but be sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate when you are exercising in the heat. Keep up the great work!

Ran 3-1/2 miles and swam .4 miles yesterday at the lake at my mom's. I cancelled out much in the way of fitness benefits by eating at McDonald's for lunch though, and then going out for dinner. Eating is kind of like drinking for me in some ways; amazing how much you can rationalize you have "earned".

Ran today again, about the same distance, but got a late start and it's extremely hot. Wishing I could afford a pool membership for August, or get myself up early enough so I could get exercise out of the way before I need to shlep the kids to camp and then myself into work.

Whiney McWhinestein will now quit complaining and just be grateful I have a body with all its parts in reasonable working order.

I was so busy exercising last week I completely forgot to post on here!!

It was a very good exercise week with 5 really good workouts completed. I feel like I'm starting to see some real progress - my strength has really improved although my aerobic capacity still has a long way to go.

I cant remember whether I said but my trainer has started a group fitness thing for women, twice a week, 6:15am at a park here that is right beside the harbour. There are 8 of us ranging in age from late-20s to 29 (me):H I'm enjoying it so much - its a great group, everyone just goes at their own pace and ability and there is lots of hilarity. And this morning it was really beautiful - it was still dark when we got down there, but with an incredibly clear sky and still lots of stars. And then gradually the sun rose over the harbour. It was such a great start to the morning!!

                    Whiney McWhinestein - I love it :H:H

Hope everyone else is on track with their goals!

                      Hey All,

Miss Behaving, I do an outdoor "bootcamp" in the morning from 5:30 - 6:30 am. It is the most awesome way to start the day. And, if I don't go, I am CRANKY.

MissyB I loved your description of yesterday morning!

I took yesterday off to mow the grass and I realize I'm looking for an excuse for today so I popped in here for some motivation. Guess I'll drag on my clothes and hit the river trail!

another good week from me ....... Monday is my day off, Tuesday my early morning group session, Wednesday 1km in the pool, Thursday early morning group session, Friday boxing class, this morning 1km in the pool, tomorrow I will do a 5km walk/run (and I have a new sensor for my i-pod, so I'll try to see how much of it I can run).

I really like those weekes where I get to the end of it and feel really proud of myself because I haven't ade any excuses, and have carried through with my goals!

Right now I'm going to reward myself with a (wet Saturday afternoon!) nana nap cuddled up to my wee cat!

MissyB, boxing class? Tell me more!

I stopped by the gym yesterday and picked up a schedule for classes. It looked a little sparse, but there is an eary spin class 2 X a week. I think I'll give that a try. It's time do do weights again. And swim. I'll still walk the river while I can - it's already dark an hour later in the AMs. Boo hoo!

OK, that wasn't a solid commitment, but it's out there in print.
