Hi everyone! TGIF (thank God it's friday!) here for sure.

Cherbear, Grapevine is a monthly magazine published by AA for members. It has articles and personal stories in it, usually with a topic focus each month. I subscribe and really enjoy it. Here is the link: Alcoholics Anonymous Grapevine Magazine I generally read it and then pass it along to others. Do you have time for me to mail you a couple of issues? I can't recall exactly when you are leaving! You might ask some older timers where you go to meetings if anyone has back issues you could take with you.

Rebirth, I would LOVE to know how to make jewelry! I will probably never gold or silversmith, but I might learn how to string beads one of these days.

I got my hair cut really short after always wearing it past my shoulders. Mr. Doggy, a male of the species, did not care much for that as is common in this strange species called "men."

I can't wait to hear about a meeting in India!

I'm off to my little home town group. Am especially looking forward to it today.

Cherbear congratulations on your 30 day coin yesterday! Fabulous! Glad you posted your thoughts as I am going on holiday in two and a half weeks ( 1st aug). Wont have access to a computer etc. I will take some AA literature but that's about it. Really worried about it too. Look forward to any advice given.
Hi rebirth, my sponsor downloaded for me(ASPEAKERS.COM Joe and Charlie) it about the first few chapters in the big book this is a must, it great to listen to while on hoilday or in the car. The two guys are also funny. I have really enjoyed listening to them... Hope this helps.

Hi everyone miss you all very much:l:h, doing really well im over 6months now got myself a sponsor at long last and we are going through the big book again, this time there is so many things that standout that i have to highlight. I didn't realise that the steps were in the beginning of the big book..... Than i will be going through the steps with her. can't wait! (my foundation is so big there a castle and a hotel on there now):H
It funny i was saying to my sponsor the other day that i miss the taste of AL, she did say that will go away, it just takes time. I still get my emotional hangover days, but its ok i'm learning to deal with it. Oh i forgot i was drinking red grape jucie the other day it really did taste like red wine, the after taste, wont be drinking that again it played about with my mind too much...
Sorry i have not mention everyone's name but im thinking of all, of you all the time.

Take care and keep safe. Love to u all.:h

            Hi all!

Lovely to see you Catch! I'm really happy for you too. I like how you talk about your foundations being so big. That's a very good point, i reckon.

              Catch Thank you! Hi guitarista

DG why dont you try working with fimo or precious clay first. You could make some lovely pieces of jewellery using these materials.

Do you suggest any web links where I mind read a bit about that? I don't even know what fimo or "precious" clay even are!! Sounds interesting!

Just had a look for you DG but my google will only give me UK sites. Try google it and see if you get any more info.
Its basically a clay that can be folded, formed, flattened, cut into any forms. You can even press patterns onto it. You then burn it using a little torch ( what they use for burning sugar on cakes etc) and the clay dissolves, and voila...you have silver.
It's fun to use and you can make a lovely pair of earrings with them. It's not cheap though. Might be cheaper in the US as everything is soooo expensive in the UK.

Just got back from an AA meeting and some of the newbies shared for the first time tonight. I am so glad they did because it helps everyone in the group. I was the only newbie sharing for a while and I wdesparately wanted to hear what the other newbies were thinking. But I do understand that it can be intimadating to express yourself within a crowd.

Rebirth, I'm glad other "newbies" are now sharing too! I'm sure your sharing helped them feel braver about it. AA is like my therapy and I'm so glad to be able to go there and share away! One thing nice about going to the same meetings all the time is getting to know people there and developing trust and a comfort level with the group. I'm very blessed to have a great home group with lots of good people and solid sobriety to guide the way.

That bracelet is gorgeous!! You are very talented!!!!! I will do some googling this weekend and see what I can find about the materials you mentioned!

Rebirth- Cool bracelet! You will have to tell us all about India.

Thanks all for the congrats on the 30 days, it really made me feel good to log on and see the congrats from my AA thread peeps!!!

Husband is going out of town this weekend so my sponsor was a little nervous about me being by myself, so she had lots of good suggestions to keep busy, or just take a nap. She brought a point up that's really true for me which is that sometimes reality when you are first getting sober(and especially when not at work in my case since I'm there so much) is really better taken in slices so if you need to break the day up with a movie, nap food or going to 2 or 3 meetings so you're not lonely that's ok. I am also planning on excercising!

I really thought I would be a little more caught up financially by now, I was spending anywhere from $5-50 US dollars daily on booze and I am still broke. I think I am finding other things to spend on, like aforementioned FOOD! I used to barely eat so I could spend my money on wine, vodka etc.

Hope everyone is having a great sober Friday night. I am trying to really stay on top of my game right now and stay doing that next right thing, my sponsor also said to me tonight that in her experience a lot of people relapse between 30-60 days. I am really just trying to stay in a routine and not do anything out of the ordinary, no traveling, no social things without someone not drinking with me, etc. to just keep myself in a cocoon in some ways. Just trying to be super careful, cause its not worth it.

Rebirth , that bracelet is absolutely beautiful!!!! Girl you got talent. I'm a quilter so I appreciate all things artful.
DG, thanks for the offer for the grapvine books , I have asked a couple of old timers and they are getting some gatthered up for me!! Also I bought the book living Sober, lots of good tips in there.
MarriedG.. I was also told that you get itchy at the 30, 60 and 90 marks but no one has really told me why?? I'm staying vigilent with the program, thats why I'm alittle concerned about the vacation but I'm making plans to stay busy!! and try and absorb each moment instead of my old usual of "when will we get there so I can have my wine!!!"

Well I have to work all weekend ) and for once it is an actual warm sunny weekend. We have not had much a summer yet here.

                            bye for now
May our choices today not result in regret, but rather be wise

DG.... I had the same thoughts yesterday at my meeting. That I am forming a real solid companionship with my group. The old timers will even mention me in their share, commenting on how wonderful it is to witness my transformation. That makes me glow! Oh the times I use to burst into tears cause I hated myself so much. I was so angry to be an alcoholic.I felt it was just not fair that I could not drink like a lady…I use to feel so pathetic and useless back then.Full of self pity. But now that I am sober I realise that I helped the old timers too. I reminded them of why they had a desire to stop drinking. Wow I have come a long way. I am living a life I thought was impossible for me...
We all help each other no matter what stages and levels we are in. Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. Its the first drink that makes you drunk. I repeat these words often to keep me intune.

Cher and MarriedG - I never heard of people relasping 30- 90 days...No one told me that one. Unfortunately I dont have a sponsor so far. I seem to get enough from the meetings, lots of AA literature, keeping busy ( exercise, gardening etc) and any free time I have I spend on this forum. I like this forum because people post on here and tell me their thoughts. I really need to hear their honesty for my recovery.

Its day 51 today and have noticed that my cravings are not as intense as before. I am also not thinking about AL as much . Infact I had a heated arguement with my boyfriend last sunday which would have be the ideal trigger to drink. I wanted to throw him off a cliff, stomp on his head, bend his fingers backwards, cut up all his clothes and I only realised later after my aggression subsided that I had not ONCE thought about drinking! Progression! Plus I went to my local off license a couple of days ago cause I ran out of my medicine (Mars bar) and the owner didn’t even acknowledge me! Hurrah! Usually he would have plonked my bottle of cava on the table before I even asked for it. That was a good moment

Cher - I would love to see a picture of one of your creations. Sewing is another hobby I would love to do.

Have a great AF saturday. I am off shopping. x

Wow I love all the energy on this thread today!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm far from being an "old timer" - still a newbie myself. But you guys with your enthusiasm and the wonderful changes going on for you just really make me appreciate what recovery is all about. It's about getting our LIVES back!

MG, I love your plan for the weekend. One chunk at a time and lots of good ideas for stuff to do. Your sponsor sounds very wise! Your financial stuff will come together. Take it slow. I realized I was spending a LOT of money on "treats" just recently. I can still have treats but there are more cost effective ways to go about it than I was going about it! Baby steps.

Cher - wow quilting! We were talking about quilting at Curves fairly recently as there is a quilt there that one of the ladies made. It is being raffled off to raise money for the local mission center for their kids back to school program. It's a small baby sized quilt but is beautiful. We were talking about quilting becoming a "lost art." Hopefully you and others are keeping that from happening! I too would love to see pictures of your work.

On the 30/60/90 thing, it's funny I suspect that might be something with addiction in general. I noticed when I quit smoking that the Quitnet forum seemed to have virtual reward stuff going on at those marks, (extra motivation??) and that relapse potential seemed higher in those times. If we just stay sober one day at a time, those "higher risk" days will pass too. Good that the old timers are helping you out with grapevines! I think you will enjoy reading them. Living Sober is good too! I have it and it's high time to get it out and do a refresh read.

Rebirth, congrats on getting through the BF fight an realizing you never even thought of drinking! My own rough patch the last couple of days with Mr. D had that same bright spot. I can't believe I thought our marriage was doomed (one of my issues is wanting to RUN at the first sign of trouble - something *I* have to continue working on!). I was so upset. But never once did I want to drink over it. Truly a miracle for people like us, eh??

I am going to the Saturday Big Book study today. Usually lots of people go out to breakfast after which if fun. Not sure if I will do that as I didn't exercise yesterday so really need to do that today. We shall see! I think I'll go with the flow and decide in the moment what seems right.

                                Have a great day!
