AF August - Week 3
Good Morning August Friends,
Rebirth-welcome back! Sooo glad you enjoyed your holiday in India, and you did it AF! What an incredible feat that you accomplished!
I am "off" today but working at home for the business.
Chill-the engine light went on in my car last night and I thought of you. The handbook says, "Take it to the dealer," an electrical or transmission problem-sounds $$$$$$$$ and it has 178,000 miles on it so I know what I'll be doing today. No padding around in my bathrobe and fuzzy slippers popping bon bons, no drinking.....just probably facing the prospect of buying a new (used) car. Oh well.....what can I do? We all know AL won't solve it and I'm not even tempted.
Have a great day everyone....will check in later with the $$$$ damage.

AF August - Week 3
Good morning August friends!
Welcome back rebirth! So glad to hear you enjoyed your trip - you'll have to fill us in.
Rusty, I do have that extra car sitting in my garage (newly inspected, new tires, etc )
But, if you borrow my car you have to take one of the Insanity Twins off my hands!!!!!
I feel like I'm drowning in Golden Retriever breath............!
They follow me around all day long. When I go in the bathroom they try to go in with me - NO!
When I sit down at my desk one of them has to flop down under the desk on top of my feet - ARGH!
I can't wait until tomorrow when they go home!!!!
I hope I can get one or two things done today!
Wishing everyone a terrific AF Thursday.

AF August - Week 3
Hi Lav,
How are you doing? I've been thinking about you. I saw on another Forum that you were feeling really sad and angry about the situation with Mr. Lav. :l:l
Lav, I so appreciate what you're going through with the Insanity Twins. My next door neighbor has the biggest Golden I have ever seen and he is so wonderful but he is NUTS! When he was only about 1 year old, he would run up to me, jump up and pee all over my slacks and my feet. His owners were horrified! The only way they can get him to behave and stop jumping on people, etc. is to fill a baggie with pennies/coins and slam it down on the floor when he acts up. By damn, it works! He sits right down and stays. But I so know how annoying it is when you have a dog at your feet all the time, and follows you into the bathroom. Mine does the same thing, and I love him but it can be so annoying!
Anyway, back to work and I hope you're feeling better today.
Love,
Rusty

AF August - Week 3
Morning,
I remember having children underfoot like those retrievers. Even in the bathroom with me and constantly hugging my legs.
Rebirth, welcome back. I'll bet India was chaotic. My oldest son spent 3 weeks there and a year and a half ago. He looked shell shocked when he got back. Wouldn't say any more than "it was an experience". He was meeting the Indian side of his fiance's family. That may have made it less than relaxing.
I'm having most of the downstairs of my house painted today. Thinking of you LBH, when you had your floors done. Hard to have workmen inside one's home all day but will be nice to finally have it done.
Stay cool everybody.

AF August - Week 3
Hi everyone
Late check in from me as had a busy day getting things sorted for back to school.
Lav - Sorry about your chicken and hope you survived another day with the goldies. I have one and while she's not overactive, she behaves more like 7 months than 7 years.
Welcome back Rebirth. Have never been to India but hubby has, it seems to be some experience. Well done on staying AF.
Sped - Belated happy birthday, hope the painting went ok today.
Chill - Hope everything works out with the car and your plans.
Rusty - Hope you are getting some rest after your long hours yesterday.
Hello to LBH, Star, Dill, Sooty, Cyn and anyone else I missed.

AF August - Week 3
Hi Rustop & Sooty,
I cope with these goofy dogs by knowing they will be gone very soon :H
They are just too high energy for me anymore. Guess I'm getting old but I'm sure my next dog is going to be quite small. I've had a lifetime of big, goofy dogs!
The FDA has recalled hundreds of millions of eggs due to salmonella contamination.
I'm so grateful I have healthy hens. They just die from old age - honestly :H
Hope everyone has a peaceful evening!

Hey Lav,
Now we have a good reason to not eat eggs!
Wonderful painters. It's wonderful to hire quality workpeople. There were 5 of them so they got done quickly and cleaned up beautifully. And now those rooms look so clean. They also quite good looking!
Zucchini pancakes for dinner, and black eyed peas, chard and back yard tomatoes.

AF August - Week 3
Hello all - I just read through August Week 2, and Holy Moly Rocky (now you know I also am a fan) what a week that was. It seems as if things are stabilizing now, I really hope that is the case...but/and what a great reminder of the support to be had here in these pages.
Chill - you are a model of optimism, I am so impressed. Hang in there - glad you have friends to help.
Lav - I am sending you big bunches of love; sorry things have been such a shock. thank you for the link to the gratitude site - looks wonderful.
Red - you are on quite a journey, thanks for being so clear about it all.
Sped - I so hope the dark clouds have lifted and will stay away - I echo what you feel about the AF life and some disappoinments in that regard, but I keep telling myself that it is a process.
LBH - hope the household chaos is do-able for you; so glad that you've seen baby fishes.
Sorry not to mention everyone - sending you all big hugs, and will write more when I am awake.
Ciao!to the light

AF August - Week 3
Good morning my cyber friends,
Oh its good to be home again! I am not surprised that India is described as interesting, chaotic etc. It is no doubt a very mad part of the world. The poverty is shocking. The pollution is shocking. There are no enforced laws and the majority of people are illiterate. They brush their teeth, wash their bodies, do their laundry, wash their cooking utensils in the river...and further along down the river an elephant is having a good old wash..Jeez. I use to wonder where the water in my cups of tea came from..
But I loved the place! I also loved how they are not a drinking culture. Alcohol is banned in most areas. The combination of not being able to get a drink and living in surreal surroundings made it a breeze for a 1st sober holiday.
Another thing.. I was given some terrible news while I was away. My nephew is currently in Barbados and contracted dengue fever from a mosquito. He had to be flown to Miami and taken to the emergency ward. My family did not know whether he would survive as he is only five months old. When I was told this news I instantly thought about getting a glass of wine. I did not want to deal with my sadness. But my sobriety was so strong!! A voice said to me " You coward!! You are so selfish. Drink and you will get drunk. How will that help your family?? They need you!" I have lost the point in drinking!
I thought of logging onto this site while I was away but I guess I was too busy having a holiday! My addiction to drink must be weakening as the months go by.
Have a great AF thursday everyone!
And Lav you will be proud of me as I did not eat any chocolate while I was away! Except for my birthday but the indians cannot bake so I left most of in on the plate. Time to adopt a healthier diet now that I have come back.
And get a cat!Be strong-
We define ourselves by the best that is in us, not the worse that has been done to us.
Be constructive. Clear the word of CAN'T

AF August - Week 3
Rebirth it is a joy to have you back!
Your positive energy oozes out of your post and its so lovely to see you enjoying the benefits of sobriety. I do hope your little nephew is doing well, I havent actually heard of dengue fever. isnt it strange how something like this would normally have made us drink! When I was dealing with some tough issues last week I had the same thoughts but this time my rational brain was able to see how futile getting drunk would be and how it would only render me in a worse, more depressed state to deal with what needed to be done. Looking back now I cant believe I was fooled for so long by the alcoholic brain... it was plain insanity!
I would love to hear more about India for you, how did you find the people there, although there was extreme poverty did they seem happy?
Cyn - Yes, what a great solid source of support this little thread is...."In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer ."
