AF Daily - Wednesday August 25

Up and at 'em Fabbie Abbies! :b&d:

I forgot to ask yesterday "what is smudging?" I started to say...If it involves voodoo dolls I'm mighty interested. Then I realized I'm not mad at anybody so what would I do with a voodoo doll anyway? WOW. Now that is really something. That is major progress. I'm going to sit here and just reflect on this resentment free moment for a bit.

P3 have you always crocheted? There is a woman friend from AA who crochets and she has taught a couple others how to crochet. She is the one who hosts "stitch and bitch" at her house sometimes. :H Maybe I should get some yard and a needle and head over there sometime. Happy to say I won't have much to offer for the "bitching" part of it. I guess that will allow me to focus on stitching. I'm still thinking jewelry making is in my future but that will involve more supplies and tools I think. Although I'm sure crocheting can involve a lot of "stuff" too. A cozy night at home sounds nice. Could you share a little bit about your menus and what preparation you did on the weekend? That is such a good idea and maybe a few hints from you would help me get started at better preparation.

Marshy.....complicated? Oy. Good to hear you enjoyed the movie! Maybe the other woman that moved will resurface and be less complicated???

Hello to anyone I might have missed yesterday!

We decided to schedule the movers to help us get all the big furniture off the 2nd floor, and some stuff moved around on the first floor Wednesday or Friday of next week. (if they can do it either of those days.) So....now under the gun to get the rest of the little stuff moved. Got Mr. D's clothes and stuff moved yesterday. That was easy. Last to go other than a few odds and ends is my clothes and shoes. Many shoes. Where the sam hill am I going to put them? Why does anyone need so many shoes? (well, it's not a "need" now is it!) Tonight Mr. D is doing a Windows 7 seminar and I will be going along as "Vanna." (Vanna White is the lady who turns the letters over on Wheel of Fortune for anyone who doesn't recognize that reference right off) I won't be wearing an evening gown though. But I will bring my smile. And that is all.

    One thing is for sure....

Hey DG-My grandmother taught me to do very simple crochet stitches when I was a preteen. I've made a couple of afgans and scarves. Anything that doesn't involve circles or complicated patterns I can do!! There are 2 women at work I am friends with who are master crocheters and knitters. Their work is fabulous and I really think they could quit their jobs and do the craft fair circut but they say no.

The cooking and prep is what I posted about on Sunday. My prep consisted of gathering together some recipes from online, shopping for the ingrediants weeks ago (and of the course the mountain of squash!!) and then finally getting my rear in gear on sunday and committing to doing this. Once I got going, it all kind of fell into place. I don't do this often at all but should. It's just tough to devote a whole day of cooking when there is so much more to do. It's kind of like when you do all your canning and dehydrating. Just gotta do it!! Let us know how you make out although I suspect the next few months will be a lot of takeout due to the remodel? I know it's the upstairs but at my house the kitchen would be filled with everything from there. Anyway, it's worth the effort and planning.

Really must get ready for work!! Last day before the students come in for their orientation. I'm ok with the work I've accomplished and am ready for whatever is awaiting me on my desk.

      Have a fabby day everyone!!

So you're going to be nekkid? Isn't Mr DG concerned that the audience will be a bit distracted from his presentation?

Papmom - bet you can't wait for the students to descend :H

Sweet dreams, Guitarista. I've had a bit of trouble sleeping lately. But it was my fault that I was up until 2am this morning reading my trashy novel.

          Morning fabbies!!

This AM feels like late summer with the.... lack of stiffling heat in the morning air. Inviting as it is, I'm skipping the river this AM. I'm going to tame the jasmine and get it to the curb (yay, trash day!). I have some appts downtown and one of them involves going with friend to the taco truck!

DG, yep, I really have a headless barbie who at the moment adorns the baker's rack. Her gown came from FL. I was with GF on vacation walking down the sidewalk and spotted it. "Oh look! A barbie dress! I need that!" Snatched it up and pocketed it and GF just looked at me and shook head. :H So I'm happy to have a new clothing find.

Marshy... I thought nekkid too. Hahaha

Papmom, your evening sounded very nice!

Lav, bummer about the zoo. Got me thinking though that maybe I'll go to ours this weekend AM. There's a good trail walk there. The same river I frequent separates the botanical from the animal section.

Better get to the jasmine before I miss the trash truck. Happy hump day!

With or without my mojo, one thing is for sure......

            Hey All,

No exercise for me this morning. Took advantage of the cooler weather and slept late.

DG, We are in the process of doing lots of purging too. Seems the only time I do it is when I'm under pressure to get it done. But, I love it!!

            Here's a description of a Smudging Ceremony:

Our Native elders have taught us that before a person can be healed or heal another, one must be cleansed of any bad feelings, negative thoughts, bad spirits or negative energy - cleansed both physically and spiritually. This helps the healing to come through in a clear way, without being distorted or sidetracked by negative "stuff" in either the healer or the client. The elders say that all ceremonies, tribal or private, must be entered into with a good heart so that we can pray, sing, and walk in a sacred manner, and be helped by the spirits to enter the sacred realm.

Native people throughout the world use herbs to accomplish this. One common ceremony is to burn certain herbs, take the smoke in one's hands and rub or brush it over the body. Today this is commonly called "smudging." In Western North America the three plants most frequently used in smudging are sage, cedar, and sweetgrass.

On the smudging thing: I've never smudged but I do burn incense (and even listen to Tibetan chanting CDs when the mood strikes). I'd run out of incense and hadn't got around to buying any more for a couple of weeks when I was told my mum was being tested for cancer. When the news had sunk in after a few hours, I suddenly felt a NEED to burn incense and went out to buy some. Odd, eh?

              Greenie - great minds...

I found this chant somewhere on the internet. You are supposed to say it at least three times as you smudge. I found wonderful sage smudging sticks on the internet as well. Doing this on a full moon night has become my new addiction

I'm running way behind today so I will wish everyone a Fab AF Humpday & get to work

                            Hello,

I feel like I'm in a coma again. Is it PAWS? I don't think so, I think it's just the weather. Or I've been watching too many Desperate Housewives reruns. Gotta get caught up, ya know?

I would say pass the tiara to me but I haven't heard the music yet. Yeah where did PA guy go?

Happy hump day everyone! And I know one thing for sure...
