              Evening/morning all -

Chill - what a wonderful, well-deserved pre-Bday luncheon - I loved hearing about all the pink! Remember the phrase 'in the pink'? Well, that's you....

Lav - good luck with the $$$$ale - hope you make lots of dough!

Rusty - PLEASE don't let some wacky person deprive us of your presence. (As you can see, all I care about is my own comfort) - no, honestly, of course do what you must do, but your essence will be missed here.

RB - there is a lot of information out there about the link between blood sugar levels and cravings. I for one have difficulty managing my levels, and can tell you from experience that it can be a very dangerous issue. If you have a chance, take a look at the Zone diet -- it is all about keeping your blood sugar stable, with the right mixture of protein, vegetable fats, and complex carbohydrates. I feel fabulous when I stick with it - and it isn't hard, just takes a little planning and thoughtful shopping. There is a Recovery Center in Minneapolis (NOT Hazeldon) that uses this diet, along with supps, and has a tremendous success rate.

Sped - are you done cleaning yet? Time to get shopping for that dress - sounds like everyone is giving you great shopping advice.

Star - do you realize how different your posts are now, as opposed to a year ago? You sound so centered, so balanced, even with all the challenges that you are facing. I seem to remember that last year, Friday nights were a real worry for you...

Chill - just remembered something I've been thinking about all day. You should write!!! I know I have posted about this book before, but it really would be perfect for you right now: 'Writing Down the Bones". She presents writing as a meditative form - every chapter is another way 'in' to your voice. You would find that you have A LOT of interest to say, I think....

LBH - hello, hello, hello ----

Mr G - at last, a song we can hear!! Cant' wait to check it out.

Mr PA - good luck with the traverse to the land of downstairs. I loved the Zafon book - if you haven't seen it yet, there is a map in the back of the book of Barcelona, and all the places he writes about.

Dill - would you post the apple recipe again? I finally broke down and bought a slow cooker.

Sorry anyone that I missed - it's late and I'm sleepy - Happy Saturday - Sooty, I will sleep soundly in the rocking boat, if you have the tiller.

                September Serenity - week 3

                Good morning everyone

Just a quick check in before I hit the road for the day.

Rusty - I am so sorry you had a bad experience. Please dont leave this thread, we would all miss you so much. I can understand you taking some time out but please, please check back with us to let us know how you are doing. I love reading all your stories.

Lav - Good luck with the yard sale, hope you make lots and lots of $$$$$

Chill - Glad you enjoyed your pre-birthday lunch, when is the big day?

Rebirth - I lost the stone by cutting out all junk. Healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. I did cut down/substitute on carbs though e.g. I now have a wholemeal wrap or pitta instead of white bread. Sugar is my downfall as well. I now have those low calorie jellies for desert or rice cakes topped with a little bit of chocolate or weight watchers biscuits. I still feel I need something sweet but at least with the low cal stuff it reduces the craving without piling on the calories.

Cyn - Thanks for the information on the Zone diet, I must look it up.

Dill - Would you mind posting that recipe again that all the others are raving about, thank a mil.

Everyone else big hello, got to dash, have a great Saturday.

Good morning cyn and rustop. Its a gorgeous sunny day and I am spending it with my lovely son.

Cyn - I will have a look at the Zone diet.Sounds very interesting. It's perhaps what I need.

Rustop - Its the balance isnt it. think I will only allow myself something sugary on a sunday or as a special treat.

Me being an addictive personality needs to focus on moderating everything in my life.

                  Have a lovely saturday all!

                    September Serenity - week 3

                    Good Morning Dear Friends,

Well, all I can say is thank you to all of you for the outpouring of love and support. Several of you sent me sweet PMs and it really cheered me up. I'm feeling much cheerier today.

Rebirth-enjoy your day with your beautiful day. Do you have any special plans for the day? I'm glad it's sunny there....I just heard thunder. Of course, it has to be bad weather on a Saturday! Grrr.... How well I know about those sugar cravings. Ugh, when I quit drinking, I craved Ben and Jerry's Cherry Ice Cream topped with peanut M & Ms. You asked me why I didn't let my client kiss me and here's the reason: He is still my client but he won't be after November. Yes, he is sexy!

Lav-good luck with the yard sale! Does Mr. Lav know you plan to sell all of his leisure suits? Just kiddin! How are you going to spend the proceeds from the sale? Please don't tell me you're going to buy more chicks.

Shelley-did you find an outfit for the wedding yet? Oh, who needs a dress? Just tell the MOB that you're wearing your finest Lands' End running attire and favorite pair of shoes.

Dill-how was your out of town conference?

John-how was the journey down the stairs? When is your doc's appt? Next week, right? Keep us posted.

Chill-belated Happy Birthday, dear one! How old are you now?

Mr. G-Um, I know you like running in the rain and so I tried it after you said it was very relaxing.....nah, I don't think so. Me thinks I'll be running on the treadmill indoors today.

Rustop-awesome job on your weight loss!

Cyn-thanks for the info. on the Zone Diet. I will look it up.

Papmom-what are you up to today? Cooking anything special?

Sooty-do you have any plans for the weekend?

Well, today will be a paperwork day and then I am making a flower arrangement for a party I'm going to tonight. I'm looking forward to it. It will be good to get out and have some fun.

Have a wonderful AF day, everyone, and thank you again for being such wonderful friends.

                    Love,

                    Rusty

                      September Serenity - week 3

                      What an active Friday!!

Rusty, reaching out to someone is a risk, and then to have them call you drunk is just too much. That is why I like this forum for the anonymity (?) as I had tried AA about 20 years ago and ended up with phone calls like that and it just scared me. So, no AA for me. I have enough dealing with myself. I know that sounds selfish, but I was just not comfortable with those types of communications. I somehow felt responsible, guilty, and wanted them to leave me alone. So, there it is. I, personally, will really miss your posts, so hope you reconsider, but I respect whatever you decide to do. Hey, your dream cracked me up. I am jealous that you will get to go to a Greek Wedding.

Cyn, how interesting that you remember my posts from a year ago. Thanks for the reminder. It has been a long journey for me, with lots of slip ups, but overall, I have made progress. For which I am ever so grateful.

Chill, I remember during that time in our lives, my husband kind of hid out for about three weeks. Just stayed in the house afraid. (He would never admit it). It was so stressful. I had my job by then. He made up his mind one day to go out and look for employment, got a job, and never looked back. It was the beginning. We still had plenty of struggles, but were out of that fear filled isolated time. Your birthday party sounds lovely. What a nice group of friends. Happy birthday to you.

Rebirth, My understanding is that you can eat as many veggies as you want. So I make hummus, little or no olive oil, and chow. I never gain weight eating lots of veggies. Also, a good vegetable soup can fill you up, if it is made from whole foods. So please don't go hungry. That is the earth mother, want to feed everybody, in me. Sorry if I am bossy.

Personally, being encouraged to eat sugar is madness, especially when you are going AF. But of course, sweets in moderation are OK. I think food plans have to be reasonable, or no one will stick to them. I feel like crap when I eat stuff like donuts and other baked goods, so for the most part I stay away. But every once in a while I like my chocolate, although the last time I ate a candy bar, I felt ill. Probably because I had eaten healthy all week. Interestingly enough, I notice that fast food also make me feel not good, so I really try to avoid it, instead taking my veggies and proteins for lunch.

Dill, sorry I did not give you credit for you apple recipe. Lav, it is one heck of a good recipe!!

I had a great afternoon, cleaned my house, cooked up turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc., for my menfolk, and me of course. Today I am making a recipe that is the ultimate in comfort food. Amish noodles, cooked, then add left over turkey and gravy. It is so delicious. It lookes like it is supposed to rain today, so I am not sure about the festivals, but a friend called for dinner tonight, so we may go out. I am reading a deliciously scary novel, the Historian. It is so scary. So, food, reading, pay bills, go to library, I love Saturdays, AF.

Hoping we all have a AF day.

                        Morning,
I have painters coming in less than an hour. Do you believe people will actually come and paint a room in your house at 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning. That's perfect for people like me who get up at 4.
Spending the day at home, cleaning, gardening, hanging pictures, cooking.
Tomorrow is my running group's longest training run, 26 miles. Not looking forward to it. Mentally I don't understand why I have to run a training marathon when I'm going to run a real one in a month. Physically I know I can do it but the last few miles are damn uncomfortable. My sons say only go 20. Thinking that's good advice.

Lav, have a good time at your garage sale. Don't forget about the canoe and save me a brownie.

Rusty, I frequently eat Weight Watchers fudgesicles before bed. Think you should reconsider leaving such a fine group of people.

Cyn, I'm waiting for those cool breezes.

Star, Amish noodles with turkey and gravy sound wonderful. I love the seasons changing too. Just wish this one would hurry up and change.

Better get ready for my early bird painters. Will check in later.

                          September Serenity - week 3

                          Morning Folks:

Getting off to a slow start this am. Could NOT sleep last night. I think my body is telling me it has had enough of lying around in bed. Just 2 more days! And no, I have not been able to make my way down the stairs yet. I wanted to do a practice run tomorrow but Mr. Partner said no way ? it has to wait until Monday when I go to the doctor?s.

Sped ? Friends of mine who have trained and run full marathons have told me they do 26 mile practice runs. My goodness, I think I would stick with your plan of 20 miles. Leave the final 6 for the real thing! I really admire your stamina. I will get to a full marathon some day!

Rusty ? very glad you are here. Flower arranging? Is that a hobby of yours? Although I have lots of flowers in my garden, I have never learned the art or acquired the skills to create a nice flower arrangement. It always looks like I?ve thrown a handful of cut flowers into a vase. :egad:

DG ? thanks for your advice on how to find a volunteer service that would be a good fit for me. I?ve done web searches in the past and have not had much success. I think a direct phone call to my local United Way chapter is a great idea. And NO, I have NOT fallen into the big deep hole in my mattress yet! :H

I am expecting some friends to stop by for a visit today so I am happy about that. :danthin: It is an absolutely gorgeous morning and I have the bedroom windows open listening to the birdies do their thing. Oh, how I wish I could be out there with them ? I am sure my flower beds need my attention at this point.

This boy needs a couple more cups of coffee this morning ? I need to ring my bell and get some service now? :cupajoe:

Chill, Dill, Lav, Rebirth, G, Star, Rustop, Marsh, Cyn and all that follow today ? Have a fabulous AF Saturday!
                          John

                            Happy AF Saturday Guys!

Cyn - I will check out "Writing down the bones", thank you :l

Rebirth - Your menu does sound very healthy, good on you! Rustop, well done on losing a stone! I always seem to half a half stone that doesnt want to shift.

Rusty - My birthday is not till Monday 20th, Im glad to hear your soon to be date is sexy! :h

Star - You do sound in good spirits these days, its amazing how much a written post can tell about our moods when we now know each other better.

Sped - You get up at 4am! What time do you go to bed? Good luck with the run tomorrow boy you are brave.

Paguy - 2 more days...! You are doing great at keeping occupied in the circumstances.

Lav - Hope the yard sale is going well,

I was up early and met with my cycle group, we did a really hard and fast 40km ride on tracks and boy will I sleep tonight! Everytime I think, ok im going to head back to the UK I have the most amazing day here and change my mind again. Being out in the countryside challenging myself makes me realize i dont want to go back to a cold climate.
Anyway right now im feeling amazing and going for a swim in the pool which will in the next week or two be too cold.....
