Hi all! A quick hello before I go to sleep in my own bed. Did not feel prepared enough to do the sleepover, but am so glad I went for the evening activities and program. Definitely an excellent program to raise awareness about homelessness, and an awesome chance for many young people (i.e kids through teenagers) to become aware. Hopefully they walk away each year knowing how bad things can get (as one lesson) and also learn about the importance of giving back to their community to aid those in need.

I had a great time meeting other volunteers and donors / sponsors. They also had a really fun scavenger hunt set up where in the process, we also learned a lot of facts about homelessness in our community, and about the wide reach of the mission center. They sure do a lot with a little. Or better put, they do a really really really lot with quite a bit. I am thankful to live in such a generous community.

PAGuy, you asked about volunteering and possibly using your cooking skills and interests. I'm sure you can find a way to put that talent to good use! I find this work tremendously rewarding. Gets me out of myself and takes my focus off of my own garbage. That helps me stay balanced I think. And hopefully I get to help others in the process. It's all good. I tried a couple ways to search for all the great volunteer opportunities in my area. I didn't come up with quite the right phrase to get google doing it for me. There IS one web site in my county that lists nearly all of the social service agencies and that is The United Way of [MyCounty]. I'm guessing if you were to find the web site for the United Way of your county, there might be a button that lists all of the local agencies they support. You can also contact the United Way to ask them about volunteer opportunities in supported agencies. They can probably give you some good ideas. The United Way here is involved in trying to match volunteers with agencies needing help. (this is largely driven by the court system and court ordered community service work) Anyway....I know the places around here would LOOOOVE your skills. They get tons of food donated from local people, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The challenge is planning appetizing meals around what they have on hand, and especially not letting the fresh foods go to waste. YOU would be good at helping sort that out once in awhile!

Anyway...I apologize that my posting this week has been so "me" oriented. I promise to catch up over the weekend! I think about you all lots. As things happen I often think "oh MWO friends will LOVE that one!"

Mo, you keep hanging in there! Anyone who needs a little extra strength and hope today - I'll give you my extra.

Marshy - where do we go this weekend to get behind you and non-GF with our popcorn???

Nighty night one and all. One thing is for sure...

Went OK. Sold some stuff. The reason the guys are a "tough crowd" (same group every week) is that several of them are the type to find humor at other people's expense. I used to find that sort of stuff funny too, so long as I was not on the recieving end of it. These days I guess I see it all differently and I really don't appreciate humor at other people's expense any more. The changes in me continue.....

How are you feeling Det? All going OK in these early days back on the wagon? I sure hope so. For me it was SO hard getting back on the wagon and I hope you are not going through anything close to that. :l

ditto on the humor. I think those that find humor at others expense just don't have much creativity or 'real' sense of humor.

I'm doing awesome thanks! I think I'm kind of fortunate that I'm an immediate binger. I don't mod for any length of time at all. so I fell off hard for about 3 1/2 days and that was that. back on my horse at full gallop with the wind in my hair. ok if I hadn't shaved it all off.
