    October Optimism - week 1

Rabbit, White Rabbit! Cheers for the beginning of our especially optimistic month. And I feel especially cheerful because I just got a call from my dear friend whose husband has the throat cancer -- he had surgery today, and the news is very good...the surgeon had to take much less of the chord than was anticipated, and my friend will definitely be able to speak again. We cried and cried on the phone (I was standing in a parking lot in the 106 degree heat, but it didn't matter!). I'm sharing it here, as you all were so kind to trudge with me through my concern for my friends ------ I'm taking it as a good omen for the rest of the month!

Sped - thanks so much for the touching stories - I can't believe you have time to write! Please know how much we are all thinking of you this weekend, and can't wait to hear all the stories.

Ah! The mysteries of this site are finally becoming clear - 'senior', the pencil, the YB, EB, TBGP.....

Wonderful AF Friday to all, and a blanket of optimism to hold tight to for this great month to come!

        October Optimism - week 1

Loved all the pics of the places we live. I'll have to try to find a nice representative place to take a pic of that isn't too far from home. I should have taken pics at the ocean last week but I was having way too much fun with the dog to remember I had a phone/camera with me!!
Still raining and windy and miserable here but will be gorgeous tomorrow-cool and sunny. Of course I have to work inside but Sunday I will be out ALL day long that's for sure!!

Everyone sounds so good!! I love the idea of a new month/new beginning and I too feel good about October.

This week has been busy busy with medical appointments but it's all good. I finally feel like I am taking care of my total self, proactively in some ways, catching up in others.

John, you hang in there. We are here for you to rant with when the immobility gets to be too much. Everynite you lay your head on the pillow means another day closer to the 18th!!

Lav-so glad the worst is over for you and the damage wasn't too bad. I'm a little apprehensive about what I might find in the basement when I get home. Not sure the downspouts were able to handle the torrential downpours. No matter, it will all dry out.

Chill-thanks for starting us off this month. Gosh, you and LBH have such a way with writing your words. Hmmmmm........ And sorry your sis is probably feeling like crap today. Do you think she will learn anything from you and your experience?

Rusty-good for you for staying calm and collective and not holding a grudge with non BF. You're so right-you need his business so you will take the high road.

Sooty-have a great time at the Mindfullness course. Will check out your link this weekend.

Hi Star, Dill, Mr G, Rustop, RB and anyone else lurking about. Happy October to us all!!

          papmom,
Our rain total was 7"!!!! Fortunately I have a bone dry lower level in myhouse (where my shop is located). I can walk out the door directly into the yard. I did venture out briefly to pick up a few things today. Lots & lots of tree damage, etc all around. I can see now why I was without power for 10 hours yesterday. Hope your basement stays dry!!!!

I don't think they graduated to stink bugs yet John, but there's alway hope!
A few years ago I had several young hens help reduce the Japanese beetle population though - I still have pictures of them at work :H

What's with these stink bugs? I capture at least a half a dozen/day in the house - eek!!

They were all over the news last week. Apparently, due to the very warm weather here this summer, we had a double batch! I guess they are fertile little devils. :H:H They came here from Asia and are completely resistant to all insecticides....

Feels AWESOME to be able to say that...been awhile!! I FINALLY got done reading all the posts from the last week in September and today's posts. WOW!! If you don't check in daily you miss A LOT on this thread...it's fast moving!! Hopefully things will slow down after this weekend! My son has 2 days of soccer tournaments and then his season is over. I'm taking a class at our local University on Monday nights (Educational Leadership)....wowzer is that keeping my busy!!
I've really enjoyed seeing the pictures of the areas in which people live....they are beautiful!! I promise to do better on posting daily so I can do better at addressing each of your posts as well. I have enjoyed reading tonight...new baby girl on the way, monsoon rains, wonderful quotes, marriages, trusting men issues (boy, could I jump in with ya there :H) This should....this WILL be an awesome month, I just know it!! Thanks again for all your words of wisdom...they were very much appreciated!! See you all tomorrow!!

                        October Optimism - week 1

                        Good morning Optimists

LBH - what amazing photos! To live near someplace like that is just awesome, I have never seen anything like that for real, it looks like a scene from an Indiana Jones movie.

Well I was out again with my Sisters last night and it was the other one who drank too much this time! Boy is it a great reminder why not to drink. What crap gets spoken! Anyway it turned out to be an ego boosting evening for me and I was chatted up by several very nice men. One very cute 30 year old who remembered meeting me once 3 years ago at a charity event and was very keen to learn I was single. The other was one of the most distinguished bachelors in the area who just happens to be going to the same party I am tonight, he is very much the kind of man your mother would like but I'm not sure if he is interesting enough for me, anyway we shall see.....

Wishing you all a wonderful AF Weekend.

                          October Optimism - week 1

Wow, Lav! What a lot of rain! I'm glad you made it through.
Paguy, that's funny about the stink bugs. We had a year when we were inundated by asian lady bugs. They were yellow instead of orange and boy did they stink (for real) when you swept them up.
LBH, that was really awesome terrain. I'd love to see that in person. And that's good about your Ipod. Once you get over being intimidated by it, you will love it. It's amazing how much they can hold. I have a lot of music and meditations on mine in addition to photos and several novels.
Chill, it's great to hear your adventures at parties while remaining AF. It's an eye-openner, isn't it.
Cyn, I was so happy to hear things went well for your friend.
Star, I am a believer in "intuition" and feel like it is too often ignored, with bad results.
Sooty, thanks for the link. I'll look at it today.
Sped, thinking of you and the special time for you and your family.
SD, so good to hear your voice on the thread!
Rebirth, Rusty, Papmom, Mr. G, have a wonderful AF weekend.
                          Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Good for you. Kind of crazy watching your sisters torture themselves with AL, huh?

John, the stink bugs came from Asia? I didn't know that but I'd be happy to return them

Glad you checked in SD, was thinking of you yesterday. We have been a busy group around here.

Dill, I just loaded an entire hypnosis program on my MP3. It's going to cure anything & everthing that ails me :H

OK, time to get in gear. Wishing everyone a :Hgreat AF Saturday.

                              October Optimism - week 1

                              Good Morning Friends:

After a couple of rain-soaked days here on the East coast it looks like it is shaping up to be a beautiful Fall day here today. I can hear neighbors outside mowing their lawns and wish I could be out there today doing my autumn cleanup but that will have to wait this year.

The evenings are getting cooler which makes for very nice sleeping weather. This time of the year my dog, who usually sleeps at the foot of the bed, manages to inch his way up my torso to crawl up in a ball and suck as much heat out of me as he can. He is such a lovable little scoundrel. :h

The big event for me today is to get the bed changed ? a refreshed set of sheets and I think I?ll have Mr. Partner flip over the mattress. It?s getting a bit soft again. It?s amazing the things that I?ve come to look forward to! :H

We are supposed to meet up with some friends this evening for dinner so I am looking forward to getting outside and breathe in some fresh air today. I would love to get to Barnes and Noble to get a glimpse of some of their new arrivals. I?ve been reading up a storm over the past month and I hope to continue as part of my overall sobriety plan. I had forgotten how much I enjoy reading.

Wishing you all a super Saturday and AF weekend??..
