AF Daily - TGIFriday October 15

I am armed with the serenity prayer today. That is actually helpful to me in dealing with life's ups and downs whereas AL just causes more problems. Take that AL!

AFM.. :l We had a motivational speaker yesterday at Community Leadership School who was very good. He is obviously very well read. One of the people in the audience asked him what his top 5 book recommendations would be. One of the ones he suggested was Cardinal Bernadin's book "The Gift of Peace." He mentioned that one of the facets of that book is the Cardinal talking about facing his own death. I thought of that when I read your post although of course I have not read it yet (but plan to and I'm def not Catholic). I can't imagine how difficult this is for you. My own father is on the slow downhill slide that is common with diabetes and it's difficult to watch - an we are nowhere near the end yet I don't think. I wish you peace of mind today.

Cindi, I hope this rehab is everything you could ever imagine that is good in your recovery! Travel safely today.

Deter for Mayor. :soapbox2: That is all.

Thank you for the positive vibes for the lasik. I'm not going to worry about the parathyroid thing today. I'll just plan to get the blood draw on Monday and take it from there.

Not much other to report yet today other than there is one thing for darn sure....I will NOT be drinking alcohol today. That is the other all.

    Off to Curves..

Yes rebirth - Curves is a gym. Just for ladies. I've tried a few different things but went back to Curves. It's the only exercise program I have ever been able to stick with. Good for you on the Taebo!!! I agree that getting a move on in the morning sure enhances mood. Have a great day rebirth!

        Morning Abbies,

DG best to you on the procedure today. LIke you said, if he's cute you will be able to see him better so well worth the discomfort.

Hi Rebirth. Taebo is fun - that sounds great. I'm sure you burned off the sugar.

It's another busy day here. My post on the other website seemed to be well received and it's nice to get good feedback. One thing I responded to - I don't know how anyone can drink in the US aside from after work. I mean it's just socially unacceptable, and seems like it would be impossible. There's just no opporunity, and I see no way that the person would not be caught. Jeez all the mommie meetings etc. soccer practices etc. I just don't see how anyone could think about doing it. The reaction of the moms, can you think of it?

I am so grateful that this behavior is just unthinkable to me now. Link it to pride, self-love, self-care, whatever, I could not imagine myself jeopardizing my standing or how people view my children by taking that reckless risk.

        With love,
        T.

          Morning folks,

I have to go to a long meeting this morning, followed by another long meeting. I'm not fond of meetings because I can't get any work done!

Gaia, things have changed some. I remember attorneys walking around with glasses of scotch starting around 3:00 p.m. on Fridays. I think the liability issue would now preclude that sort of thing. At my husband's work, they had beer on site and would start popping them at 5:00 p.m. Another business in town used to do the same thing, and one employee got killed while driving drunk after work, his family sued and won, the business shut down. My husband's workplace immediately became an AF-zone, which is sensible, IMO.

Hope everyone has a good day.

            GM Abbers!

Happy Friday to one & all

DG, good luck with your procedure today!

Rebirth, you ill find (as you get older) sugar causes extra hot flashes...........no one wants that Helps me keep my sugar intake pretty low.

Gaia, popping open a bottle of wine after a long day at work was my 'reward'. Of course that eventually led to popping open the bottle at 11am on my day off. What a sad waste of time that was. No wonder I ended up so depressed!

Hope Greenie is enjoying the sunshine around these parts this morning. Yesterday, sadly was a washout out.

After last evening's dicussion with YB I had no choice but to tell him to stay where he is. His thinking hasn't improved. Actually he's now paranoid & tells me that I'm reading his thoughts & telling him how to feel. That is pure bullshit!!! So I'm on my own at least until he decides to get some serious help.

I wishing a happy AF Friday to everyone!

              Hello friends,

Wow, so much going on with everybody. First I want to address you, AFM. So sorry for all the drama you are going through, I want to recommend this book for you:

Amazon.com: Final Gifts: Understanding the Special Awareness, Needs, and Communications of the Dying (9780553378764): Maggie Callanan, Patricia Kelley: Books

The Hospice nurses gave it to us when my dad was dying. It really helped me. I've had to order extra copies because I keep sharing it with people.

As I was applying my new ButterButt body products last evening, I thought of you guys that like the all-natural products. I may have shared this before, but I love this stuff so much, you really need to check it out. My friend makes these products--all natural--and the scent alone is so wonderful.
              ButterButt Body Butter - Home

Best wishes to you, Cindi. I'll be thinking about you every day.:l

Dg--good luck with your lasik, and your parathyroid tests. My CT scan showed that I have a condition called : "Florid cemento-osseous-dysplasia". Dense areas in my upper and lower jaw that evidently are of no concern.

I wanted to give you an update on Terry too. I talked to her last weekend and she sounded really well. She is home, moving around with very little hip pain. Other places hurt and she ended up in the hospital the other night because she may have strained a back muscle. But I don't think it's serious. She even went downstairs so she could bring some sewing stuff up to work on. Thank you all so much for your cares and prayers!

Thanks also for your input on the city council deal. Loved the article Pride! I shared it with my coalition friend. I don't think I'll ever make a politician, I care too much what people think of me and I want them to LIKE me! We presented our facts, if they proceed, then we'll pray nothing bad comes of it. Like the councilman said, they can always rescind it if it becomes an issue.

Remember I am getting a "surprise!" refrigerator for my birthday. Yesterday hubby asked me to send in the energy rebate, so I got curious and got to looking at the fridge online.
I think I had mentioned to hubby a couple of times to measure the space the fridge needs to fit. WEll, guess what? The fridge is 3" too tall for the space. I don't think it will be a huge deal to cut the cupboard above down to size, but of course it was a real disaster last evening. I kept my cool as he ranted and raved and told him it wasn't the end of the world. Maybe next time he will measure.:H

I could go on and on this morning, but I have lots to do and want to enjoy this beautiful weather as much as I can!!! Have a great sober weekend all! :h

                Hi guys,

I'm sorry I haven't posted - I am dealing with some pretty serious depression. I am going to my doctors this am to get her to change my anti-depressants since the ones I'm on are obviously doing SQUAT!

I just realized I am 3 months AF! Wow - I am quite pleased about that.

Sorry - not much else to say today, I just wanted to check in. I'm off to do something or else I'll end up back in bed.

I'll check in later to let you know what my doctor says.

                thanks,
                Uni

                  Hi all,

DG - hope your surgery goes well. I know several friends who've had it done and all think it's great.

Gaia - I've seen "soccer moms" in the US post on here that they were drunk while they were watching their kids at football practice. My friend who lives in CT has a neighbour who drinks all day and often dumps her kids on the neighbours when she can't function any more so I'm sure it goes on more than you think. Here, it's probably even more common - much more socially acceptable to drink more and at most times of day/events, although there's much less drinking in my profession now than when I started out. It's no longer OK to get hammered in the pub at lunchtime, then go back to work - although it used to be.

Lav - sorry things have worked out like that. Were you hoping that he would say he was moving back in?

Hi to Rebirth, TTT, LVT and all to come. Have a great day!

                      Good morning!

DG, and LVT, thank you for the book suggestions. I will definitely check into them. We have a hospice here in my town that I am able to access for additional counseling, etc.... I will see if they have that book, LVT there. If not I will check for both at the library; or will order online. Thank you both!!

I had a good sleep for a change last night. 9 hours, solid. I feel better today. A lot stronger physically and emotionally.

Today is picture day for the kids... So I have to get off of the computer and get the little one all purdy-ed up.

Cindi, thinking of you today. I hope rehab is everything you need to learn how to enjoy your life sober. Good luck!!!! and CONGRATS! You have never given up all this time I have 'known' you here. Lots of love coming your way.

Hello to everyone else! Have a great day everyone!

And that, high calcium! :b&d: And that, eye surgery! :b&d:

LVT, I don?t know if I could ever bring myself to buy a product called ?Butterbutt.? Hits too close to home. I did run this morning, though, in 45 degree, rainy splendor. Rebirth, it?s a great idea to get exercise first thing in the morning, otherwise do we ever get around to it?

Lav, good for you for sticking to boundaries with YB. Misery may love company, but the other way around, not so much. I really admire your determination and humor through such a stressful time.

Gaia, I have never gone to one of my kids? events drunk (although to too many hung over). Some level of pride or need to protect them kept me from that. I know women who did, though. One mom would sit in her car at little league games drinking gin & tonic from a thermos (no disguising that smell from yours truly). She went to jail for six months last year after multiple DUIs. ?Poor Betty!? I said to myself, pouring my third glass of wine. ?At least I?m not as bad as her."

I am so grateful that this behavior is just unthinkable to me now. >> Me too. No kidding.

Three months for me too, Uni! HIGH FIVE. :crowned::crowned:

AFM, so glad you got a good night's sleep and grownups are behaving like grownups. Life sometimes. OUCH. Hang in there.:l

RB. I'm cutting back on sugar here. I have 4 coffee's per day, 2 tsp. sugar in each. I've bought a natural sugar alternative called Xylitol, and i'm trying 1 and a half tsp's Xylitol, and half tsp. sugar in each cwarffee. (Have i got a N.Y. accent down? he he...sorry) It tastes good enough, so i'm going with a mixture for now. I tried 'Stevia', another natural sugar alternative, but it tastes a bit wild for me, but that could be another alternative for you. Health food shop's, and probably even your supermarket in health food section. A bit pricey, though the Xylitol i found less expensive.

Best wishes all, and happy POETS day!
