    October Optimism - Week 4

    Morning everybody,
Home from Chicago last night at 11 PM, after spending hours at Ikea, and driving through some horrific thunderstorms. It is warm and balmy in Indiana this morning. Felt like I was coming home last night. Chicago was fun but always feels a little hectic. So many people everywhere you go.

Rusty, are you back in the midwest? Isn't soCal fun? I'm always amazed that people live and work there. It feels like they're on a permanent vacation.

Pay, ditto all the praise about your meal. I love to cook and my son loves to eat. I've got spaghetti squash, big ripe tomatoes, purple bell peppers and onions sitting on the kitchen counter. Sounds like a wonderful meal in the making. And on melatonin. It gives me a hangover, similar to what I get with benadryl.

Star, my condolences. By all means see your doctor. There are things you can take that will help. And about feeling too exhausted to exercise, for me that's when exercise helps the most. It energies me when I'm feeling draggy. Home your day gets better.

Dill, I understand what you are saying about treading softly when counseling your child about drinking. And about how murky those half truths can be. My youngest son is the one I worry about. When I first talked to him about his drinking (as opposed to mine) I was blunt, honest, took a risk. Told him I thought he was in dangerous waters. Now we seem to have an open forum about al. Of course now that I write that I think how well do I really know our kids.

Chill, welcome back. A rendezvous in Portugal? How about in the States? Those Euros have all the fun.

Lav, good luck with your chores. Mindless busy work is so therapeutic for me. Wish I had a chicken coop to clean.

Cyn, good luck with your house.

Pap, hugs to those doggies. My son and I discussed the acquisition of a kitten this morning. Can't stand to be without a pet!

I'm off to go walking. I am trying to be good to my foot. I am not in pain but know there is something wrong with my left foot. A twinge, an ache, a bruised soreness. DO NOT want it to get worse.

      October Optimism - Week 4

Oh my gosh this thread is moving and I am so darn behind! I am still on Cyn?s, Walden quote. I worked like a maniac on the house with Lord Bird Heart over the past three days and his project is now 90% finished. I have to head out this minute for work in a town around forty-five minutes from here which is a good thing as I can trade my dusty jeans for silk and tweed and a brain. I shall catch up and in the meantime lovely names will swirl around for November, I do like a theme of nurture, PA. Rusty you are such a loveable brat. Welcome home Chill. Miss you Shelley. Love, Ladybird.
      may we be well

        Good Morning Everyone!!
Short stop by as I'm running around here crazy today!!!
Pap3--I did n't realize she was playing a game...thought she was just a bit...a..."slow"...LOL!!!! Kidding! I WISH ihad extra monet for a personal trainer (one for her and one for me)!!:H I honestly think I just don't give her enough attention...which is sad, I know.

Dill--thanks for your thoughts on my whole mom thing, and how your interactions with your daughter have gone. I sometimes feel liek my mom has a problem with AL and on some level I think she may think she does too. She has told me before she thinks she needs to cut it out during the weeks and only drink on the weekeds...comments we've all said (sorry if I'm generalizing). Like I said, I'm just pretty sensitive to people pointing out my faults...not sure why....maybe why I try so hard to "be perfect" all the time...you know...that just isn't workin out so well!!:H It's pretty hard to do!!! LOL!!

PAguy--I made that dish last night for dinner...AWESOME!!!! My son even loved it!!! I'm eating for lunch today to...the teachers are gonna be so jealous!!!!

Sped--take it easy on that foot!!

Chill---hurry up and get back on the computer...we want details...of the trip!!! And the new honey!!

Choo--way to go on 21!!!!! We're nearing the end of the month!!! Woohoo!!!!

Lav--hey, at least you dind't say shoveling snow yet!!! I would have cried...although I hear it's coming :upset:

ok folks...I seriously gotta run!!!!! I have night class tonight so I'll catch up with everyone tomorrow!!!
        Peace!

What about Nurturing November? Cos that's what we should be doing to and for ourselves.

I did some nurturing of myself today actually, went to have eyebrows done and had a makeover. Bought some new makeup too ~ it felt like time to give myself a pamper

Of course it goes without saying that i'll go along with any name we decide just as long as I can be with you all.

I've got evening class tonight so catch you all tomorrow. Hope Monday has gone well for us all

Hey everobody, afternoon check in here.

Paguy, you asked the other day for suggestions for meditation. I think you might like Jon Kabat-Zinn. He has several books and CD's on the subject. Try googling him. I currently am using his body scan meditation and find it very calming.

SD-Progress, not perfection on ALL fronts!! I do know what you mean about not giving our pooches enough attention. Was home all day yesterday and didn't walk them once!! Lots of cuddle time tho while I worked on my blog!!

PaGuy-I'll have to check out that picatta recipe. Got LOTS of chix breast in the freezer (sale).

                  October Optimism - Week 4

                  Good morning everyone

Lav, you would not be the only nutcase in the November thread if we decided to call it that, I feel you would be in very good company!! Sooty - I too like November nuturing, glad you managed to give yourself some yesterday. Rusty - We would not dream of banning you - you are too much fun and add so much to this thread.

John - thanks for the recipe. Like Dill I have started practicing Jon Kabat- Zinn's meditation. I love the body scan but have the tendancy to fall asleep during it. I also like the hatha yoga. I am having more difficulty with the sitting meditation and guess that is the one I need the most. I am doing an 8 week course in it and am really enjoying it. I would highly recommend it.

                  Papmom - Loved the blog.

Dill- Thanks for sharing about your daughter. I am at that stage at the moment and have kept it to very general terms. Maybe down the line I'll be able to discuss it more openly, we will see.

Sped - Take it easy on that foot.

Choo - Day 22 - nearly at the end of your first month, well done you.

LBH - Glad you got so much work done in the house, hope you are doing ok.

Chill, Cyn, Guitarista, SD, Rebirth and anyone else I missed big hello.

                    October Optimism - Week 4

                    Hey all,

We are in for a big weather change, high winds, rain, and a temperature drop of 30 degrees by Thursday. I find it exciting when fall comes in so suddenly and loudly. Only, all the lovely leaves will be down, it is so beautiful here, there is a golden glow when the sun is out.

I am feeling a bit better, slept more last night. I thought I was in heaven, with the window open blowing a cool breeze over me. I guess I just need a checkup and some life changes. PA, I was touched when you shared that you felt overwhelmed when at the gym. I think I need to break down and join my gym again, I am so out of shape. It is alot of hard work to be in shape as you get older, and I need to quit whining and get moving. My goal is to join by November 1st and start out slowly. I did a little Pilates yesterday morning and it did feel good. Thanks for your support.

Have a peaceful and productive AF day.

                        October Optimism - Week 4

                        Good Morning All:

I've had 2 back-to-back nights of very restful sleep and I am feeling pretty darn good this morning! I think the melatonin is really doing the trick for me.

Dill and Rustop - Thanks for the Jon Kabat- Zinn's meditation recommendation. I'll have to do some googling to see what I can find.

Star - We are having unusually balmy weather here for the last week of October but it sounds like the Fall weather is approaching quickly. I love crisp Fall weather and am looking forward to it.

Have to cut it short here as I have to prepare for an 8am meeting. Hope you all have a peaceful day?.

                          GM friends

John. Melatonin helps me with sleep as well but be prepared for some bizarre dreams......they will start at some point. I've learned to take them in stride. This warm weather streak has kept the stink bugs alive & well. I don't know how many of them I removed from my house yesterday

Red(Star), cooler weather definitely decreases the hot flash/night sweat sitution!! I really don't mind seeing the end of summer for that reason alone :H

Greetings to everyone - Rustop, Dill, Chill, Papmom, LBH, Sooty, rebirth, Choochie, Shelley, cyn, SD, G & anyone I've missed. Must get my day started - better late than never

                            Good morning,
I walked and walked yesterday. The leaves here turn the most incredible colors.
Star, like you I waiting for that big storm to arrive. The weather forecasters are so excited. Doesn't seem like much of a storm though. Some rain and wind and temperatures in the 70's.

Lav, I had to laugh. November Nutcases was exactly what popped into my mind. Great minds think alike. I'll vote for it. Driving in the countryside yesterday, passing a farm with a sign The Needle Nook.
Thought of you with your embroidery business.

Rustop, do you do your class online?

                              Good Morning Friends,

I am at the John Wayne Airport (Giddyee Up, Cowboy!) and on my way home soon. Although I will unpack my bag, do laundry, repack and then fly out for Canada early tomorrow morning. Lav, I will also have my own personal November thread and call it Neurotic November.

Nurturing is a good theme for November but how about something energetic...in honor of PA becoming mobile and athletic again after his injury, and all of us here who seem devoted to being fit mentally and physically. Neutron November! It makes me think of Olivia Newton-John, a breast cancer survivor and vibrant beauty....I loved dancing to her music when I was in college...we used to give her nicknames....Olivia Neutron Bomb and Oll-liv-you-a-note-in-the-john.:H

Star-I hope you're feeling better, and I've been meaning to ask how your daughter and her husband are doing? Do they live close to you?

Hello to Lav, Sped, Rebirth, Rustop, Dill, Sooty,Chill, Ladybird, PA, G, SD, Cyn, Papmom, and anyone who comes by...have a wonderful AF Tuesday!
