Just a question out there, when I look into a kid's face at school, it's, yeah, what a sweet kid When I look into my sons' faces, even today when they are in their 20's,it's like my babies, I feel unconditional love.
My question for you dog lovers is, does every dog do that i love you thing for you? I think I might want to get a dog some day but really don't feel that connected with this one. Is it a personality thing? Do you know what I mean? It's like meeting a new person, sometimes you connect and sometimes not. This dog seems to love me a lot more than I love him. Oh lord, here I sit with my cats nestled in. Cat person??

Wow Chill-that is amazing!! What a cool dog he must have been!!

Lav-so glad it was such a nice outing for you and EB. YB was very smart today!! :H
Yes, I will get ME time tomorrow. I thought I was going to a dog show but it turns out it is next weekend which is fine because I have Fri-Sun off. tomorrow I plan to do TONS of laundry, cleaning and tackle some stacks of paper in the continuing saga of decluttering my office. It's supposed to be bitterly cold tomorrow so I don't think the doggies and I will get a walk in on the Rail Trail unfortunately. That's the only thing about papillons-they're not all that hardy!! I might even find a crock pot recipe I like and dump some chicken in. Oh yes, and I have to do food shopping. Already the day is gone!!

The dog widely reported to be the longest-lived on record is "Bluey," purportedly born in 1910 in Australia. He died in 1939 at the age of 29.5 years. Bluey is usually identified as an Australian Cattle Dog, but the first Australian Cattle Dog breed standard was written in 1902, only eight years before Bluey?s birth. It is unclear how closely Bluey was related to the breed as it exists today. The Bluey record is anecdotal and unverified. The longest verified records are of dogs living to 24 years.

Sped - it takes humans longer to bond with animals than them with us. I don't have kids but the unconditional love you describe is exactly how I feel about my dog. The connection between us is mind blowing and she is my whole world, there is nothing I wouldn't do to make sure she was ok. The love and companionship is among the most special relationships I have ever experienced. I know you get 'cat' people and 'dog' people but having worked with our local shelter for years rehoming dogs I have seen the hearts of the most reluctant melt after bonding with their dog.

Sped-I was a confirmed cat person too and when I decided it was time to get my first dog I was excited but I kept thinking: "How am I ever going to get used to that slobbery, slimey tongue!!" I was so used to the light licks of the sandpaper tongue LOL!!

When I first saw Mickey, I wasn't even sure I was going to take him home. I was petrified and he was a nipper. He was also 9 mos old and I had wanted an older dog. I fell in love with him on the ride home when I was so worried he would choke on the rawhide bone I had put in his crate for him. I was very naive back then!! I fell in love with him even more that night when I accidently hit him with the crate door and he shit all over my floor. The look on his face was heartbreaking and I had all I could do to close the door to his crate instead of letting him get on the bed and cuddle and hold him tight to tell him it was OK he was safe now. Guinness I fell in love with at first sight. Koby took about 2 years. Really. I love them all unconditionally in 3 different ways and for all different reasons. I'm not saying that people never bond with their dog-it does happen when it's not the right match but it is rare. I bonded with all six of my foster dogs and even tho it broke my heart to give them to their new families, it made me happy too.
When the time is right, you'll find your dog. And always remember this nugget: We get the dog we need, not necessarily the one we want.
Oh and don't worry about not bonding with your charge-he's not yours!! (but he thinks you are his for the time being. Dogs have no since of time-they live in the moment).

              Just checking in....

I am a cat person, but love dogs too!!! I had a greyhound for 11 years, and a few mutts with a total of about 15 years with dogs. No one is home enough for us to have a dog right now. Otherwise, we would have one. Cats are just easier, as you can leave them for long periods of time. One of our cats acts like a dog, so it is alot of fun. Animals are wonderful.

Talking of dogs Papmom and particularly Australian ones, the record for the longest living dog is held by an Australian Cattle Dog (which Mr G thinks my Elle looks a bit like) aged 29.5 years!! If that's not an advert for going down under I don't know what is
Yep. I'm in my 125 th year here, and no sign of slowing down just yet.

Come on down y'all! I'll fire up the barby!

A safe, sober, and magical weekend to everyone. :h

Don't forget Lav G - I want to see your part of the world too

I'm allergic to cats so I can't have one but I've always had dogs. Some of them are a little more independent like cats - my Southern Coon Hound mix is like that. She shows up when it's time for dinner. Otherwise she'll sleep outside in the mulch all day unless it's cold. My big dog, the Swissy wants to be with me all day long..........seriously! She doesn't want to be too far away from her food bowl :H

I've been Christmas shopping on the Etsy website - anyone else shop there? You can find some really unique things.

Trying very hard to have a dog cat sleep over and am about to give up. My female cat is infuriated to have a dog in the house.
And my question was not so much dogs versus cats as it was liking some dogs, kids, cats more than others. I like some kids and definitely don't like others, same with cats and am thinking dogs.
Guess I will have to take this little guy home now. Too much cat stuff going on here.

                          November Nuturing - Week 3

                          Shelley,
I have managed to fall in love with every puppy or dog we've ever had. They have different personalities but mostly they just want to please you & be friends. The best thing to do is to research breeds & behavior types. I've always looked for dogs that are good with kids (and grown ups).
You will certainly find a good match. Not sure what to say about your cat's attitude though :H:H

                            Good morning Nurturers
Well last night my nurturing was a soak in a mountain of bubbles to some mellow bluesy music, a night by the fire (i even light the candles) and early to bed into my fresh white clean sheets. I did rather OD on the chocolate though....

I'm really looking forward to spending the day with McLibra man who I haven't seen since last Sunday. I'm going over to his place at 11am and he's doing us brunch before we set off on a cycle ride

Wishing you all a serene and sober sunday.....

Your evening sounded wonderful Chill. I used to do that every Friday night when the girls were younger. Alas I was out driving until nearly 1 a.m. this morning!! Oh well life after teenagers, something to look forward to.

Sped - I love all animals. Dogs, depending on the breed have very different personalities. I have never had a Jack Russell like the one we now have!! However, he can be very loving when it suits him and he certainly will never be forgotten. Our Goldie is a complete sweetie.

Sooty - Congratulations on your daughters graduation. Glad you had such a nice time. I am playing my meditation tapes in the car while waiting so fitting it in a lot better than during the course.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

                                Good morning Nuturers.

Last night was alot of fun, saw a standup comic called Mark Lundholm, a recovering addict. I had seen some of his DVDs in the past, but his routine live was even more powerful. There were lots of recovering people in the audience, and he stayed after and talked with the audience. Today I feel like I am getting a cold, darn it. So, lots of rest, liquids and TLC

It was lovely yesterday, my son went to work and I was alone in my house and enjoyed being alone, peaceful, quiet, no TV, just read and relaxed. I am one of those people who needs time to recharge and crave quiet time. Not all the time, just some. So, that is how I was able to nuture myself.

Chill, your evening sounded like a wonderful party of luxury and pampering. Have a great time today.

Sooty, congrats on your daughter's graduation, a busy meaningful time.

Rustop, those teen years. They are worth it in every way.

Greetings to all, have a great AF day.
