    November Nuturing - Week 3

cyn, give those CDs another try - honestly, they did the trick for me!

I made myself a pot of French Vegetable Soup au Pistou today - yum, healthy too

SD, I'm thinking of you, good luck!

Well, I found out today that my 3rd grandbaby will be a boy, due April 6th. That means EB will be a big brother - oh boy. Exciting times ahead

LBH, hope you are holding strong. I always had a wineglass in the kitchen while I was cooking. Knocked many of the over too...........Haven't broken a single tea cup since I went AF

Chill, enjoy that wonderful sense of peace.........I'm still trying to get there!

    Wishing everyone a good nite!

      November Nuturing - Week 3

Hi everyone-Quick checkin as it's getting late.

John, my thoughts are with you and I'm so proud of you for handling this tough situation with grace and AF. I hope the Distress Tolerance post helped you-I know it was very timely for me. Thank you Dill for that!!

LBH-There will be NO Galloping Gourmet antics in the kitchens anymore :H !! Seriously tho, I totally get the association of AL and cooking. Although I don't do much cooking, my big association was coming home after work during the summer and having my first 2 or 3 glasses of wine on the deck. It was very hard to sit on the deck this summer without the wine. It almost didn't seem as relaxing so I didn't do it as much. Hopefully next year will be better. Your soups sound yummy tho so I hope you can keep on making them.

Rusty-your redecorating sounds fabulous. I have a painter too, I just can't afford him!! Luckily the room I'm conentrating on is pretty small so I know once I get going it will go quickly. It's really the prep work I hate!!

Rustop-I didn't realize you are in Ireland! I've been watching the stories about what is going on with the banks and it is indeed scary. Lots of pings coming your way. :l

SD-good luck tomorrow!! You'll do great!!

Chill - you are such a bright shining light these days-more so than usual I must add!! I hope these feelings stay with your for a while. You are one of the very lucky ones I think.

Rebirth-5 lbs in one day? that's awesome! But i have to say the diet you're on sounds horrible. I wouldn't last an hour on it I don't think. You have much more willpower than I!!

Lav-glad the chicks survived the windstorm!! it's hitting us now. The gusts are the strongest I've seen since last year. Good think I was too lazy to put the birdfeeder back together after I cleaned it this weekend!! It'd be in the next county by now I think!!

Star-if you don't have time to go to the library, and you like books on tape-see if your library is a member of the Virtual Library. If it is, you can download a lot of books for free onto your iPod or if you don't have one, onto your PC. All it takes is a very easy software download (free) and you're in business!!

Sped-positive vibes to your son that he gets that Christmas job.

Well, time to grab my book and head to bed. Catch you all tomorrow!!

        SUUUPPPER quick check in...crunch time!!!!

Day from?????? I'm not sure....I think I'm still spinning???? Had two Social Service referrals...one on a possible sexual abuse...yuck! And then the day ended with the cops at our school because I turned in some guy that had beaten his girlfriend and wasn't suppose to be around her and the kid....but of course he said he was sorry and she took him back....but the no contact order is still in affect...so they were there this afternoon to arrest him when he came to pick up the boy. THEN...get this ...are you sitting!!!!!??? My Super comes over and is in my principal's office....he walks out right as I'm about to leave for the day and asks me to step into the office :boohoo: SO I do....long story short after he tells me I better watch who I talk to when I decide to call one of the cops (who in my opinion is a dumba@@) Deputy Do DAH...because it got back to him and he called the Super to report me...BIG BABY!!! LOL! Anyway....after all this he continues to go on to tell me how good a counselor I am and he know how much I do for this school...that's where my PRINCIPAL pipes in and says...she's the best...her passion is for kids...she puts her whole heart into these kids and this job!!...Anyway...this goes on for like 5 minutes...the WHOLE time I'm looking around the room for the candid camera...I thought for sure I was being PUNKED!!!!:H Ok...sorry for all that...like I said...I think my head is still spinning!!!!
Thanks for all your well wishes...you guys are THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll be back tomorrow to let you all know how it went!!!
        Back to the books!!!!

Goodness SD, courage, and study on!!! For you, Cyn. African Peanut Soup. Only a ?method? from me as usual, proportions are to one's taste. Saute chopped onion, green bell pepper, and carrot in mild olive or canola oil. Add minced garlic, grated fresh ginger, and burning hot red pepper (where I live we have access to many worldwide kinds, I like one from Mombasa the best for this soup) and cook a minute or so, only until fragrant. Add water, chicken (I use organic thighs that I have browned first on the grill), cubed sweet potatoes, and tomatoes and cook slowly until tender. Stir in coconut milk and peanut butter and allow flavors to blend. Garnish with cilantro and chopped peanuts, a splash of lime. Very warming on a cold, cold night. Love, Ladybird.
          may we be well

            November Nuturing - Week 3

            Good morning....

Great day I get to do something different today, a conference in a near by town so a change from the usual.

My son is starting a job today, his background check came in. Send him positive vibes that he is wildly successful and good things happen to him today. Thanks. This is not the job he takes a test for, that he will retake at the end of the month.

LBH, it is weird how the cravings hit at different times situations. Sometimes they are predictable, sometimes not. Do what you have to to get through. We love your posts through, so when you can, post.

Chill, it is great that you are able to feel happy, really happy again. I agree with your percentages, at least half is genetic, some choice, and some circumstances. Notice thoughts often lead into feelings. So think the good ones.

Dill, loved the distraction, mindfulness, and acceptance strategies to overcome distress. They work with practice, practice, practice. How are you feeling?

Rebirth, to be young again!!! I used to be able to lose weight really quickly, and it was great. You are so disciplined. Thanks for sharing your reading list. I am defintely going to the library this weekend.

Papmom, thanks for your suggestions about the library. I struggle on my desktop computer, so to read a book on it would be uncomfortable. However, a laptop is in my future. I am waiting for Christmas sales, I love a good deal.

Lav, greetings, congrats on another grandson, you are a lucky woman. To live close by and to be a part of their lives is such a wonderful, daily blessing. I know you are enjoying your relationships. How's the cold?

Will try to check in tonight. Have a peaceful, lovely AF day.

              November Nuturing - Week 3

              Good Morning Friends,

Hello from Kentucky! These 2 days should go pretty smoothly....I am working with one of my favorite colleagues-he is someone I dated very briefly a while back and we are still friends. He is 47 (younger than I am....I like that ) and he has been sober for 19 years. Like me, he has never been married and has no kids-Rebirth-no, you won't be hearing wedding bells from this story.......I am not physically attracted to him, and I value having a good friend. I get lonely when I am on the road....it will be nice to have company.

Star- I will be sending good vibes for your son today. You asked me to share my situation that I went through that was similar to your son's....I was 25 when I got my first job as a TV news reporter, and due to having way too thin of a skin, overly sensitive (not good) and lacking self-confidence, I got fired after 3 months. I had moved to Minnesota and had to move back in with my parents. I worked for my dad as a receptionist until I found another job. It crushed any self-confidence I did have. He was ashamed of me and didn't bother to hide what he thought....to anyone. :upset: I think maybe for your son, who obviously has other more difficult issues....Aspberger's and coming out, he should see a therapist. I did after I was terminated because I was absolutely devastated. This therapist worked wonders for me. Also, if he has trouble taking tests, community colleges offer courses on test-taking skills. I highly recommend that. When I was studying to go to law school in 1997, I took a Stanley Kaplan course for the LSAT and it has proven valuable to me in more ways than one. I had to focus on the fact that I was living at home so I could save enough money to move out and I would just reinforce that feeling with your son....if he finds a job, saves a little money, then he can move out and build a new life for himself. He will develop confidence and will be able to meet new people....I'm sure since he's come out, that he feels terribly self-conscious since he is at home with his parents.

SD-I don't know how you put up with all the stress in your job and you remain AF. That would be a challenge for me.

LBH-your African Peanut recipe sounds delish. I must try it.

I wish I could spend more time here but I need to get my workout in before getting to the gym.

Have a wonderful AF day, everyone!

Honesty is the best way to gain the trust of others. By being honest,
feelings may or may not be hurt. Whichever the case you will end up
                respecting yourself more for it.

                Good morning everyone

After lots of wind and rain it is a beautiful morning here. Little bit of damage done, a pane of glass was blown out of hubby's greenhouse but luckily did not break.

Rebirth - 5 lbs wow, I would not mind loosing that in one day. As somebody else said, it gets harder and harder as you get older. I lost a stone about 6 months ago and it is a battle to keep it off.

Dill - Thanks so much for the info on the distress tolerance.

Paguy - Hope it helps you and that the stress eases, remember this too shall pass. You too SD, I dont know how you cope in the job you are doing. I really admire you. Good luck today.

Chill and Papmom, you both sound so upbeat, it encourages me to keep trying for a completely AF lifestyle.

Star - Glad your son got the job.

LBH - Sorry about the cravings, post when you feel like it. I love your posts.

Rusty - Your decorating sounds wonderful. Hope you are enjoying Kentucky. I wanted to go there two years ago when we were in Chicago for a wedding. I had planned a loop, Chicago - St. Louis - Kentucky - Indianapolis - Chicago. However, I was outvoted and shopping took over.

Lav - Another little boy, you are so lucky, enjoy. I put my tapes somewhere safe and cannot find them, I must have another look.

                Everyone else big hello.

                  November Nuturing - Week 3

                  Good morning all,
I am so short on time here this morning that I can't really say all that I had wanted to. It's funny in a way, because, when I sat down to post, Mr. D started talking to me very earnestly and excitedly about some new information that scientists have discovered about the galaxy. Although I am also interested, it was not what I wanted to learn about just at the moment. But, I couldn't tell him to hush, now, could I? He loves stuff like that and wanted to share.
                  So, short version:
Good luck today, SD. I know you will ace your orals.
LBH, I SOOOO understand your situation. Sometimes I just wish I could skip 4-8pm, just drink a power nutritional milkshake and call it dinner!
Red, I have just begun a book recommended by Paguy, The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Zafon. I had it on holdat the library and it took weeks to get it. First few pages have already drawn me in.
I wish I had more time. Have a great AF day everbody!

PS-Here's a link to the article that had Mr. D enthralled. I'm going to read it later, WHEN I HAVE MORE TIME!!!!

                    Morning friends!

Bummer, I wanted to see the meteor showers last night but the moon was too bright. I love to sit out in the cold & watch those things

Rustop, I highly value honesty! I instilled that in my kids & they always were, for the most part, honest with me. Too bad my spouse is not a believer in the value of honesty. He can lie to you while staring you right in the face! No wonder he doesn't live here anymore.

Dill, thanks for the link - I will read that article a little later.

Must get going & get the chicks out into the sunshine. They're acting like such big shots these days :H

Greetings to all my friends, hope Thursday is good for you!

Star-I would suggest an Ipad if that is fiscally possible. Should be some good sales to rival laptops. I say this because you don't need an internet provider-any wifi will do and you can down load the library books to it-again they are audio not readable so you just have to put an earpiece or headphones on. With the Ipad, just like the Kindle or other readers, you can also purchase real books to read on it (there may be some free ones as well). Good luck!!

                            Good morning all,

I had a great day at the conference, sat with some people I work with, and had fun, plus learned useful info. Then, out of the blue, a craving hit. My strategy this time was to put it off. I told myself, "I'll make dinner, then see how I feel." I kept doing this until it ran its course. So glad I did too.

Gaba and L-glutamine have been part of my routine for the last few weeks, and it seems to help keep my mood stable. Anyone else taking amino's and noticing a difference?

Rusty, thanks for sharing your story, your interest, and positive thoughts. You are a wonderful person, and I know a caring aunt. I am praying and trying to be encouraging everyday. I do know that he would like therapy. It has been helpful to him in the past. Your constant traveling is so interesting to hear about and all the different people you come in contact with, never a dull moment.

Dill, thanks for the update on good books. I am always looking for something good to read.

                            Have a great AF day.
