AF Daily - Wednesday December 1
Hello Fabbie Abbies! Quick check-in for me today. I only have 15 working days left for this year, so I've got to get all my year-end done before I leave for vacation! I'm really enjoying reading all the information on sugar cravings and whey protein. Keep it coming! Wish I could address everyone individually. I'll try to check in later this evening when I get a quiet moment to reflect!
Welcome ML and Chief! I'm sending strong, positive vibes of peace and strength to everyone!
Much love and hugs!

Choppersmom, good to see you as always! Where are you going on vacation?
AA - that is great about you and your son and the meds!!! So glad that came up for LVT's sake too! Our circle of friendship here is very cool.
Peace, so sorry to hear about your beagle. Our beagle was very sickly. In and out of the vet for internal problems and always hot spots. We switched to raw feeding (not even organic!!) and it make a WORLD of difference. He's like a new dog even though he is older. I'm sure your feeding program will really help. :l Gotta love those beagles.
AFM, have a good trip to your Dad's and the mall.
LVT, make sure you turn the video camera on your laptop off when you are posting from your bathroom. Seriously. There are virus type things that can remotely activate your camera. That might be TMI for sure. :H Gosh I really hope you are onto something new and helpful for your son.
Chooch, I'm sure all food coloring is probably bad but my hair dresser's doctor (main stream MD - not even a holistic type) told her to STOP eating anything with red color in it.
FWIW..
The murder mystery at the mansion is tonight! I am on the board of this group and they decided this event would double as the board holiday party so my tickets are free! Mr. Doggy decided he doesn't want to go so one of my AA girlfriends is going with me. I'm really excited! I know we will have so much fun. I'm always grateful for the AA fellowship and especially so in times of need. But it was really cool to be able to call some girlfriends that I would really LIKE to spend this evening with. And have enough of them to call that I was able to find someone who could go at the last minute! :yougo:
Defo no AL for this girl today. It's too good of a day! First snow on the ground too. YAY!!!

DG, I'm kind of forced to have my bloodwork done every 6 months because I'm on B/P meds. They tend to screw around with your kidneys, electrolytes & all that so it has to be watched.
Considering the weight I've lost since gaining my 'peace of mind' I was surprised to see my #s going up. The only thing I can think of is that I've been grazing on junk instead of sitting down to healthy meals. I'm going to pay more attention to the quality of what I put in my mouth!
LVT, my son was diagnosed ADD when he was in 1st grade. I loved him to death but he was a pain in the ass. I refused to put him on medication - I have a lot of opinions on that stuff. I focused on feeding him healthy foods (no additives, etc. I even made homemade mayo back then), being consistent with mealtimes, bedtimes, etc. When he was Jr high age I found an educational counselor running a program called 'College Bound'. I absolutely loved the guy, my son responded very well to him. He went there weekly for about 2 years & everything improved for the kid. Suddenly his grades were great, no more phone calls from the teachers, etc. He breezed thru High school, earned his Eagle Scout award, became a volunteer firefighter & EMT, graduated from Penn State & the Fire Academy in Washington DC. I'm so glad now that I didn't kill the kid when I wanted to :H:H
Maybe your son would benefit from something similar
Peace, I learned 100 years ago in A & P class that the body turns everything into sugar - sugar is the fuel used by the brain. The simple sugars are the worst things for our bodies.
Complex carbs are better but will be stored as fat if we don't burn them up right away by exercise. Too bad we can't survive on H2O :H
Chief, welcome back to the fold, stick with us!
The rain portion of the storm is over, now we are having the winds & the temp is dropping - Brrr! The chicks are big enough now to not really care

The issue with carbs turning into sugar is not the fact that they all turn into sugar. It's the rate at which this happens and how it floods the system. And the quantity matters. I know a main stream MD would disagree with me, but I do not believe for a second that candy containing 50 grams of carbs in the form of sugar eaten all at once, and vegetables containing 50 grams of carbs eaten all at once, along with protein process the same way.
A flood of blood sugar also triggers brain chemistry activity that more stable blood sugar does not. If Kathleen and Julia are to be believed, how an addicts brain responds to the flood of sugar (induced by AL or sugar) is what creates the addiction problem.
Interesting reading, really.

LVT, I laughed out load when you said you'd post from the bathroom on Colonoscopy Eve, then said we were all "getting the winds." Just the way my twisted mind works, but I did NOT read that in a meteorologic sense. (resisting urge to insert one of the more tasteless MWO emoticons here).
I too, at 29, lost my posterior virginity to a length of flexible tubing, but I thought the actual test was a LOT worse than the saline part. Sorry to scare anyone, but OUCH. Twilight sleep my...well, ass. They were trying to figure out why I was anemic, but it turned out to have nothing to do with my digestive system. NOT a middle-age rite of passage I particularly wanted to get a jump on, thanks anyway.
Peace, so sorry about your beagle. The worst part about having pets is that we outlive them. Sounds like he's comfortable and getting lots of loving care on the homefront. AFM, I might follow in your footsteps on the SPCA volunteer thing, just to have some four-legged friend time (although how I'd work that in is a mystery). My fiance's great in so many ways, but he's not an animal lover. To him, dog hair is a blight; to me, it's a fashion accessory.
Anyone else having a go at the new WW program? My usual food has a much higher points value, but on the plus side--ha ha---my run is now worth 8 activity points, up from 5. AND I get a higher daily points allowance. So a win overall, I think? (I hate math.)
Speaking of running, I was just going to head out and the rain kicked in again, so I guess I'll go eat some refined sugar instead.
Lots of mojo to you, Chief! Welcome back (and beware the endoscope!).

LV - not to fret. I didn't feel a thing during my procedure. It was the prep that did me in. I think they must have miscalculated my body size in relation to the amount of stuff I had to ingest!!

Hi Chief! Welcome! What can we do to help you stay the course? Besides the :b&d:that DG is so good at :H
Pride-I'm starting the new WW program on Sat. Our points allowance is going up??? Whoopee!! I'm really excited especially about the fruit part although my nutritionist was none too pleased to hear that.
DirectTV is here and working!! Yippeee!!! Oh how I missed my HGTV! Took 5 hours to get going tho. Apparently the whole system was down today. Even my internet is slower than molasses. The weather sure is frightful. The wind is scary and the rain is pelting. After staying home all day for the installation, I just couldn't get the mojo up to venture out to PF for my workout. I'll pay for it on Friday I'm sure!!
Have a good nite all. :lNew Birthday: May 8, 2010

Hello All,
I want me some gummy bears Now
Can't keep up with all these topics today. Sugar, colonoscopies, posterior virginity, ADD, pets, etc.
LVT/AA/Lav, My oldest daughter has severe ADHD (along with Asperger's). We tried the diet and therapy route for years but finally gave in to meds. LVT, your pediatrician should have a questionairre that you, your son, and his teachers can fill out to help you to determine whether he has ADD or ADHD.
Very rainy her today. A good day to stay indoors.
Painting done in the kitchen and floors start tomorrow. Hoping for cabinet installation next week. We'll see.
Where is BB/Gia? Bear?
Welcome MyLife. Keep coming back.

aaaaargh!
just having one of those days I'm afraid. been at the computer store all freaking day and now at 10:30pm they call me (no kidding) to inform me the 1,400.00 laptop purchased just this July is unrepairable and they don't make that model anymore but if I come in tomorrow they will exchange for something similar. the worst part is my data backup didn't work right and I lost a ton of work data.
breathing...... ok then. I really must count my blessings. I have my health/sobriety and this too shall pass.
ommmmmmm ommmmmmmmmm
ok then,
Chief, please stay with us brother. and come on chat sometime too, we have a ball there.
Doggygirl, I totally agree with your comparison of calories and carb grams. the reality is that not all calories are created equal. The radical different in the body chemistry involved in metabolizing refined sugar vs complex carbs is very well (and thoroughly) displayed in Dr Lustigs video on youtube (posted in the appropriate area of the forums). I think Lavande might have meant that the body will turn as much of the food that we eat into energy as possible (the ATP cycle) which is also true.

Deter-where are you getting this from? There are no stores around me that carry it and it doesn't look like you can order it directly from them.
I'm going to finish my CVS brand as I already opened it (was starving this morning after my 1.3 mile walk with the boyz) and then if I like the results I want to get a good quality one online.New Birthday: May 8, 2010
