I'm having a real hard time thinking about Christmas too because it's going to be very, very different from now on. I really thought about just skipping it this year BUT in the end I decided it would be better for me to proceed. YB was miserable for the 36 Christmases we had together due to his lifelong depression. I am determined to not fall back into his negative pit of despair again. It had me depressed, drinking & not at all well.

I'm with Chill, let's stay as positive as possible & look forward to starting 2011 here together! I think a lot of us are facing changes in our lives but we can make them positive

Good morning everyone

Sped - Hang in there. As Lav said a lot of us will be around over the holidays so check in and vent. You know in the beginning when trying to go AF and people say, plan nice things for yourself, why not plan a day doing exactly what makes you feel good. It does not have to be traditional, could be totally off the wall but it is your day!! You too Lav, plan a in spite of the YB day. You can see it through the eyes of the grandkids again.

I heard a psychologist talk on the radio the other day about dealing with toxic people over the holidays, it was very interesting. Wish I had heard it when dealing with the toxic MIL with whom I had a few horrific Christmas's. There is the martyr, the passive aggressive and the bossy one. MIL was a mixture of the first two. The martyr, you take away their power, subtly, delegate stuff. The passive aggressive, you ignore and the bossy one you stand up to. Simple but in family situations not always easy.

We had a little snow last night, more promised tomorrow. Nightmare for getting around in. Carpet cleaner came, have hair done and all the xmas shopping so feeling organized. Little more cleaning and I am there.

To everyone I have not mentioned have a great AF Saturday.

Good morning Determined Ones!

Frosty but sunny here today. rebirth & Rustop, I'm glad the snow decided to fall on your side of the Atlantic this year :H We had so much snow last year it wasn't even funny.
I'm not as used to the frequent, huge snowfalls as our girl Rusty in the mid-West!

Nothing planned for myself this weekend so I'll just see what develops

Hello all - just lost a long post, so will fill you in on all later...suffice to say that I made it through my scary week, and am unhung this morning. YEAH!

Dill - thanks so much for the RK poem - I know the first couple of verses, but I don't think that I've ever read the whole thing. You are a treasure-house of perfect poems.

PA - thanks so much for that website recommendation - I just briefly looked at it, and it is a dream come true! I have been relying on books like 'Book Lust' - do you know it? Great recs on books, but not complete enough for me, and also just one reviewer. I'm excited to get into this site, even though I haven't had the time to actually finish a book in months. Oh well, one can dream.

SD - wishing you good healing - maybe you should stay in for a day? Holiday bugs are the worst...

im trying to multi task and juggle MWO, itunes, facebook and googling things all at the same time...... you can tell im a woman :H

Just downloading a podcast interview from Bruce Lipton who is a hero of mine so I can listen to him while doing my ironing this afternoon.

Also had a great tip from Greenie on a worksheet from Colin Tipping.

I finished my cv and saved it to pdf but someone I sent it to wants it on word format and as I have a mac its not possible so trying to reformat that too at the moment....

I dont think I mentioned that a couple of weeks ago I had the most awful drinking dream, the 1st id had since the early weeks of quiting and the sense of disappointment in myself stayed with me long after I woke up, I couldnt believe Id given up so close to making my year and was devastated. Since around the same time my night sweats started and I have been having them every night for the last two weeks. Again I hadnt experienced this since the early days of quitting and its like my body is experiencing phantom withdrawals!! I can only think its anxiety and I thought I was managing it so well..... Mollyka recommend I try valerian and I managed to buy some today so will try it tonight.

McNotDreamy is determined to cheer me up and get me feeling Christmassy so he is taking me out to dinner tonight to a fab new restaurant Birds Nest Restaurant - Fine Dining in Loule near Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal im also hoping he can help fix my oven which has now been broken for a week and it would be so great to have it working in time for Christmas!!

Hi all - I see that my post showed up on pg 2 of our thread, though I hadn't read those posts yet...hmmm...operator error?

Anyway - a quick shout out to you Sped and Lav and Chill - I'm so sorry for the difficulties and depression. How about we host a communal virtual Holiday Celebration on-line in the next few days. We can make it a pot-luck of food ideas, gifts we've gotten from each other over the past year....whatever anyone wants. I would love to have some sort of celebration with you, as you are my 'family of choice'.

Its a miserable time of year allright - lets pledge to keep each other cheerful.

We had another inch of snow overnight and our ungritted side road is like a skating rink - treacherous. I walked very gingerly up to the shop to get the paper, and they hadn't been delivered, so no crossword for Mr S and myself today boo hoo. And its Saturday and its a jumbo one - keeps us going for an hour or two that one does.

Hey ho, off to peel an orange, gotta keep the vitamin C levels up!

Cyn you reminded me of a quote i love by Richard Bach rarely do members of the same family grow up under the same roof. Actually it would be great if possible to find a mutual time when we could go into the chatroom and have a monthly abs Christmas Party! Anyone got any suggestions when a good time might be?

Yes, I remember when we had our group chat last year! It was fun! I think we had it at 4:00 Eastern Standard time which is what Columbus, Ohio is in. I'm picking Columbus as an example, because it appears in the list on the World Clock website:

Then everybody synchronized according to that and we were quite a group!

Sped, I do hope you are feeling better. This time of year can be very hard. It isn't helping that the weather is so cold and bitter for so long. It makes me feel trapped.

What a GREAT idea to have an on-live live holiday celebration! I'm game. It looks like the Eastern time zone in the US is 5 hours behind Portugal, England/Scotland and Ireland. Let me know what works for everyone. I can be flexible....

I love to talk - I'm a yakker from way back :H We should pick a day or two to get on Chat.

OK, who is it that I found last year to also be a half Polish girl? Was it you Star???
Anyway, in honor of my 1/2 Polish heritage today I am making 'Chrusciki'.
For those of you not familiar they're fried dough dusted with confectioners' sugar - YUM!!!!
John, you may be familiar with Chrusciki being a Philly kid....... I haven't made them in years - they are not exactly heart/coronary artery friendly but I just want some anyway this year

Sooty, I just heard on CNN about the bad weather in Europe. Be careful out there, OK?
I don't want to hear of any of us old codgers falling on ice & fracturing a hip :H:H

If we're talking about a chat tomorrow evening around 4pm est I'm in!! I just need to be reminded. Lav or John, can I pm you my cell phone number? I think this would be so much fun!!

Chill-you're about as busy as me!! my dad uses a mac and he's got something on there that is the equivilent of MS Word so if he sends me a doc I can open it. His mac isn't all that new either. I wonder if you have that program on your mac but don't know it? There are free programs out there that you can download that will convert a mac word processing doc to an MS word equivilent. I'll google for you later tonite. It's 5pm and I gotta go shopping!!
