    Two Year Anniversary AF

Congrats Doodle!! Your's is a very inspiring story!! I actually read Suzanne Sommer's book about the bioindentical hormones and asked my doctor about them. she poohed poohed the whole idea. Do you see a wholeistic MD or Osteopath? I'm thinking of changing docs and don't know what direction to go in. I've gone to the website Deter suggested and I'm really scared about a low carb diet. I did the South Beach one a while ago and almost ended up in the hospital. I've always been addicted to carbs and since going AF my sugar cravings have been out of control. Anyway, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
Again, big CONGRATS to you and thank you for sharing!!

Hi again Miss Doodlebug. Thanks for taking time to outline your plan. That's basically what I was doing before that was working well, and what I drifted away from - and am paying the price. I was very curious how the "browns" ala PNP were working for you - that has been a question mark for me about strict PNP. I think my is valid.

Your comments about All One are most interesting to me as well. I had drifted away from that too, and now I'm back.

I also find your comments about estrogen / progesterone interesting. I am on bioidenticals of both but it might be time to re-test. Maybe my estrogen is out of whack again.

All the best to you. Stick to your program. Don't do what I did and start drifting bit by bit until now I am back in the sewer diet wise, with AL right around the corner I'm sure.

Thanks again you guys, you are super *hugs* : )

Determinator, I will surely check out your paleo thread, did not know we had one, that is great!

Papmom, what I did was call the compounding pharmacies in town and ask them who prescribed bio-identical hormones. Turned out the Nurse Practitioner at my OB-Gyn Doctor's office did, so that was great. But you have to be very careful, read Dr. John Lee's book, I was prescribed far higher doses than he recommended and he sort of "wrote the book" on bioidentical hormones. Also be careful if they try to put you on estrogen, from what I have been reading there are so many estrogenic substances in our environment (plastics, soy, etc) that most women do not need more estrogen. They put me on too much estrogen, which drove me batty, so I quit the estrogen and went on just progesterone like Dr. Lee recommends, and feel super. If you can't find a compounding pharmacist to make you a progesterone cream, you can buy some over the counter, but I'm not sure what brands to look for.

DG, I know you are strong and you can get it going again with the diet! Check out this website Hypnosis Downloads.com | Online Self Hypnosis MP3 & Hypnotherapy Scripts Center and look at the motivation section. Seriously, every time I have an issue, these guys have a hypnosis mp3 to deal with it. They even have one for low carb dieting! As for the Potatoes not Prozac "browns," I used only small amounts of oatmeal, brown rice and sweet potatoes, all gluten free, did okay on those when I was very careful, but I feel much more solid and stable on the paleo diet. Every week or two I cheat and eat dessert, which used to set off a two day sugar binge but does not even phase me now, I really do think it is the vitamins and progesterone keeping me stable. Jump back on the train, I know you can get that momentum going again! I'm rooting for you!!!

            Love and hugs,

            Doodlebug

Miss D, I just ordered the hormone book you recommended from Amazon. (less than $11 for anyone who hasn't checked it out yet). I am so fortunate to have a very open minded doctor who will support me in trying things. I am interested to see what he has to say about estrogen and progesterone balance. I'm so glad you posted!!! Hormone therapy (inc. thyroid) has really changed my life despite this recent bump in the road. Maybe the resurrgence of the sugar monster is just an indication that I need to go back to the drawing board with my doc.

Thanks too for the link to the hypnosis stuff. Will definitley check that out!!

Miss D or DG, would one of you post the link to Dr. Lee's book again? I can't seem to find it on this thread. One of my goals this next week (since I'm off but technically working) is to find an Osteopath or holistic MD (almost said vet DG!!) and also (OK 2 goals) get back on the All One. Even tho I will have to count the WW points in my All One shake, at least I'll be getting my vitamins and AAs in me again. I find that 6 out of 7 mornings I don't take any of my supps or meds because I don't eat until I get to work and then I forget. If I take them before I leave, on an empty stomach, I get very nauseaus and almost vomit. So, back to the All One.
Thanks again Miss D for all the details. You may have just started a movement within a movement!!

P3, I'm thinking this is the book Miss D is referring to...

Amazon.com: Dr. John Lee's Hormone Balance Made Simple: The Essential How-to Guide to Symptoms, Dosage, Timing, and More (9780446694384): John R. Lee, Virginia Hopkins: Books

Miss D, I was thinking about what you mentioned about now being able to have dessert without setting off a sugar rampage. It might be completely different for you - all I can speak to is my own experience. But that is how my sugar addiction reared it's head. I was happily sugar (and AL) free from May 2008 until Christmas time 2009. Then I let some "just ones" (of sweets - not AL) come into the picture. It seemed I was "getting away with it" for quite a long time with the occassional sweet. It krept up on me though, and now I'm hooked and miserable with it. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't touch those "occassional" sweets with a hundred foot pole.

Thanks DG-first I'll see if the library has it and if not, I'll order it. I agree with the just one theory. I was fine the 2 weeks I was on WW and counting everything that went into my mouth. Was able to say NO to the sweets that started trickling into the office. The minute I gave myself permission to have JUST ONE it was all over. I've gained my 2.8 lbs lost back and then some. Feck.

P3, I totally understand. 100%. I need to get sugar free again (and grain free) and stay that way. Heck, I don't even remember what a good low carb day looks like any more. I *thought* I low carbed a couple days this week but when I put the foods in the tracker....not. I need to get back to some serious basics. I've already gone back to All One and some other supplements / aminos that help. After dinner at Mom's tomorrow (can't control the menu so I'm not going to stress over it) I need to crack down. I'm thinking about starting with 2 weeks Atkins Induction on Sunday. The first week will be rough as I will be detoxing from a massive dive into sugar'n'grainland. But next week should be fairly quiet so if I'm a raving bitch all week it won't really matter. L-Glut and rest will be my friends.

Papmom and DG, yes that is the book I meant. I just have this big suspicion about estrogen.. it would explain why I had raving sugar cravings and binges at adolescence then again in menopause.. seems to indicate that there were hormonal issues involved. I think I was what they call "estrogen dominant," had other symptoms like depression, bitchiness, too many emotions... Anyway I am really happy you are getting Dr. Lee's book and hope it helps you!

DG, thanks for the warning on the sugar monster, I should not get too complacent!!! After tomorrow and the obligatory overeating, I am going to get strict with the primal diet. Actually, the primal diet allows more carbs than Atkins, which I like, because I need a lot of vegetables and I use a cup of berries in my smoothies. Primal diet recommends restricting dairy, which I think may be triggering due to the lactose. I was eating plain yogurt which was fermented and supposedly that took care of the lactose, but I have decided to drop that as well. Grains, definitely big huge trigger for me, though I had learned to live with gluten free oatmeal on a PnP like plan, things are much much easier now with no grains at all.

Oh, one more book to help deal with being grain free and sugar free, it is Cooking with Coconut Flour by Bruce Fife. I take his recipes and substitute Stevia and Erythritol for the sweetener, and make some really yummy sugar free, grain free chocolate nut cookies that are paleo/primal diet legal. Pretty much when a recipe calls for 1/2 c sugar, I sub 1/3 cup Erythritol and 1/4 tsp Nustevia Nocarbs.

Hope all of you do okay with the holiday tomorrow... Sending prayers your way!

                              Love and hugs,
