    December Determination ~ Week 4

    Hi folk's,

Hello Mg! Good to see you. Re AA. You do not have to be a binge drinker to go to a meeting. Everyone is welcome. The only requirement is the desire to stop drinking, and you have that day to day now. Go along and check it out. You will only gain from the experience, whether that's finding out it's not for you, or finding it can be useful to you. Take what you need from it. Great stuff on day 4 AF. Keep it going.

    Best wishes all!

            December Determination ~ Week 4

hey Chill, I think if you want to be alone New Year's Eve then that's what you should do. It's nice of Mr. McLibra to want to take you out but he has to respect your wishes and desires too. I'm usually alone NYE and fine with it but this year I'm helping a friend move into her new house on Friday and she told me she and her SO will order Chinese for everyone and I'm welcome to stick around as long as I want. It will make for a long day and I'll probably have to go home at some point to take care of the dogs but right now I'm leaning towards going back for the food and company. No way will any of us make it to midnight after all the physical work that's for sure!! I'm not even worried about not drinking. I think she knows I don't anymore and even tho I'm sure the wine will be flowing, I'll be fine with my TJ's special drinks (Pom/blueberry green tea with seltzer or maybe sparkling cranberry cocktail). Of course I have this aversion to being out on the roads NYE so I might pass. We'll see. My rambling point is, do what you feel comfortable doing and WANT to do not what anyone else wants you to do.

Welcome back mg, good to see you
Learning to moderate is just something I didn't have the energy for.......personally, I'm much better off AF. You have to do what is comfortable for you. Your trip sounds fantastic

Hello to everyone, even the nosey Rusty :H Just kidding Rusty!
I'm looking forward to putting my tired feet up for a bit. I did accomplish much in the clean-up dept. today - yay!

Has anyone heard from rebirth lately? I hope she's not being pestered by that psycho woman.

I can honestly tell you that at the age of 29? I have only been to two new years eve parties in my life! The rest of them I spent working (usually 3-11 pm shift). So sitting home by myself these days will be no big deal

OK, time to put those feet up. Have a good night everyone.

                  December Determination ~ Week 4

                  New Year's Eve.....

Believe it or not I have spent many NYE's AF. I love to have a nice dinner out, then come home, watch Dick Clark's rockin eve, and make plans for the new year. On the other hand, I have also had drinking NYE's, and felt horrible the next day, not a good way to start the new year. I also worry about people drinking and driving on amateur night. So far, no plans.

Today I am going to exercise and then meet a friend for breakfast. I am enjoying my time off, although yesterday, while shopping, I stepped in an hole in the parking lot and fell. It was totally unexpected and I cut my leg and arm. Luckily, I did not break anything, and feel pretty good today, except for the cuts.

So, wishing everyone a great AF day.

                    December Determination ~ Week 4

Star, I am glad you are enjoying time off. You and I are doing the same thing today: meeting a friend for breakfast. I am so sorry about your fall but glad you only suffered cuts and bruises.

Lav, I am glad you won't be working 3-11 this New Year! And I also have been wondering about RB. Cyn is on my mind as well. I keep wondering if she got caught up in the airport nightmare due to the heavy snowfall last weekend.

NYE has always been a big drinking event for me until last year. New Year's Day tradionally started off with a hangover from Hell! What a stupid and rotten way to begin a year. AF is definitely a nicer way to ring in the New Year and that's what I plan to do this year. Mr. D and I will stay home, have some special snacks and watch a movie. Maybe we will stay up long enough to see the ball drop in Time Square, maybe not. I am an early riser and staying up untlil midnight is hard for me. One of my favorite drinks during the Season is something I learned years ago from Bert and Ernie of Sesame St. "Red Boat Floats" It is simply a cranberry juice ice cube floating in ginger ale. The kids always had fun with it, but I enjoyed it as well. I didn't even spike it!
                    Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

                      December Determination ~ Week 4

                      Good Day Folks!

Star - So glad you did not get seriously injured with your fall yesterday. Be careful out there!

mg72 - :welcome: Let us know how you are doing. Setting any special goals for the new year?

If it was up to me, I would be spending a quiet New Year's Eve at home and probably be in bed by 10PM. Even in my drinking days, I prefered to stay home and get to bed early. This year, however, we have been invited to a neighbor's home for dinner but I still hope to be in bed by 12:30 at the latest. And YES, this will be an AF NYE.

On New Year's Day, there is a traditional 'Mummer's Day' parade in the city of Philadelphia which I will go to. My brother and his family will be there and it's an opportunity to meet up with some friends from year's past. Admittedly, many people are openly intoxicated on the streets and I know it's not a healthy environment but it's just one of those traditional things that I do each year.

I actually have to go into the office today - Yech! It will be very quiet so I am planning to get alot of administrivia accomplished that I can never seem to get done.

Rusty - I saw on another thread that Mr. G is planning to go 'commando' on New Year's Eve. Have you booked your flight to Australia yet ?? :H :H

Just saw on the news all the travelers that are still stranded in the US airports due to the blizzard in the Northeast this past weekend. How dreadful that must be - stuck in an airport and not knowing when you're going to get where you want to be!

Wishing you all peace and tranquility today.....
                      John

                        December Determination ~ Week 4

                        Good morning DOs.

I have a small problem. I think I've eaten too many Christmas cookies.
Last night I sat (gently) on the edge of my bed & KABOOM the whole thing fell apart & I was sitting on the floor :H:H OMG, it scared the hell out of me!!!!
Now I have to search for some lifting help to get the thing put back together

Star, I'm glad you're not hurt badly.....I have a history of falling myself! It's kind of scarey at this age to take a tumble like that.

I was so startled by my mattress hitting the floor last night I was unable to go to sleep (in another room) until after 3 am. Hence I will be dragging my butt around all day.

Hope everyone has a great Humpday.

                          December Determination ~ Week 4

New Year-New Bed Lav!! Out the old (could that include Ol' Grizzly Adams?) and in with the new!!!

I'm searching for a new MD, a new house and possibly a new job-Had a dream last nite that I finally got to move out to Western MA-I was soooo happy in that dream!! Time to make it a reality!

Star-so glad you weren't seriously hurt in your tumble. I have nightmares about falling on the ice again. At least now I won't fall again because I am shite faced!! So the ice is my enemy at this point!!

PAguy-there is something nice about working in a nice quiet office with no distractions. If mine weren't so far away I'd have probably gone in every day this week for a little bit at least. Not complaining about the telecommuting in the least however

OK, gotta go pick up Dad for his appt. Be back later.

                            thanks to all

                            Good morning,
Let me respond to your posts to my posting yesterday:

Rusty-no worries about asking more about me. I live in large city in Kansas, retired from my job two years ago, I am a very active, fit and on task person. My time is now filled with serviing on non profit boards, teaching and practicng yoga, doing volunteer work, playing tennis, reeading, hiking and spending tiime with wife, sons and grandchildren. When I was working I traveled almost every week and entertained almost every night out. My Al consumption was higher then and have cut it down since I do not have to sit through three hour dinners at restaurants so often. I hope this is good start on my autobiography.

Thanks to Dill, Papamom3, Lavande and Paguy for the welcome.

Guitarista, I attended AA meeting for about five months. I enjoyed the format and the people very much. I quit going because I felt they are in different place than me. Most of them if they start drinking will probably lead to serious health or other issues. They is not my situation and I could not really say I am an alcoholic and be truthfull with myself and them. AA is not where I belong and I needed to move on.

Chillgirl, I see your avatar is yoga based. Becasue I am an instructor and love to practice I would enjoy hearing of your experience. Yoga has been a huge positive influcence in my life.

                            Good day to all.

Lav I chuckled when I read about your collapsing bed. Hope you manage to get it reassembled!

This is just a quick look in cos daughter and her friends have gone shopping today so I'm having a bit of peace and then going to start cooking again. The cats just had a play fight and theres fur all over the carpet so better do cleaning too! It was funny though!

Hope we're all ok - have we decided on a name for January yet?
