      December Determination ~ Week 4

Merry Christmas and good morning to all.

Lav, have a wonderful Christmas with your loving family.

Chill, you sound so peaceful and grateful. So happy you area giving McD a chance since he seems to be so kind and loving of a man. I wonder if sober we pick different types of partners?

          December Determination ~ Week 4

          Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas. It sounds like Lav, Star, LBH, Chill, G, Rustop and Papmom are, as am I. It's quiet here now, but family will arrive later today for a gift exchange. Yesterday I baked and decorated Christmas cookies. It just doesn't feel like Christmas until I fill a plate with cookies!

The best gift of Christmas is to be AF and present with our families and friends. What really more could we need or want? .......Well, OK, maybe a new Ipod or a book or maybe a....:H Just kidding!

Greetings Cyn, Rusty, Star, Paguy, RB, Sooty, Dew, Sped, Lav, LBH, Chill, G., Rustop, Papmom, SD, and all who stop in. Have a great Christmas!
          Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

              December Determination ~ Week 4

Merry Christmas from Central MA in the USA!! It's a cloudy cold day but I've refilled the birdfeeder for my feathered friends so they won't go hungry on this special day. The pups have been out a couple of times and played with new toys stashed away just for today. I wanted to put into words how I feel today so here goes:

I am so very grateful to be unhung this morning, able to enjoy the morning paper, a very un WW brekkie, snuggles with my doggies, the lights on my makeshift mantle, the smell of sugar cookies baking (from a Yankee Candle I received as a gift last nite) and a marathon of "Ask this Old House". I'm also grateful to be able to travel such a short distance to be with my family today, again, fully present and unhung. Certainly NOT the case for the many past Christmases where I just repeated the imbibing I did on Christmas Eve.
I am also grateful to have a roof over my head (although not as warm as I would like it to be but ya gotta love sweats and down comforters!!), a job that allows me to pay most of my bills, a second job that helps with the rest, a loving extended family, great friends, both in the physical and virtual world, a car that will allow me to navigate the snowy roads safely this winter, food on the table (healthier food come 20110) and a new hobby that keeps my mind and body sharp and allows me to appreciate DD for who he really is instead of wishing he were some other dog (OK, I do wish that sometimes!!).
I am most grateful for my sobriety which has allowed me to recognize all the things in my life I am grateful for.

Lav, have a great 2nd christmas celebration today. So happy you will be with family instead of alone.

Mr G-here's healing thoughts winging their way to you in hopes your fever goes away very soon. Any musical endeavors for this evening??

LBH-I echo everyone's sentiments regarding your writing ability. Sheer poetry!!

Thank you Star for that compliment. Upbeat and full of life certainly wasn't how I was seen 8 months ago I'm very sure. If I'm coming across that way in the typed word, I'm hoping it's also being translated into everyday life in the physical world.

Rustop-great quotes as always!! I love the Thoreau one!! So often we let our castles in the air (dreams) fall hard to the ground when all we needed to do was build that foundation! How utterly simple!!

Dill-you are so right about the greatest gift of all! So many times over the past decades I could have deprived my family of that gift every time I drove drunk. By the grace of my higher power that didn't happen and now it never will.

Chill-enjoy the rain-guess the walk on the beach is out today? No matter, get that fireplace lit and enjoy the snuggles with your 2 guys.

Rusty, Sped, Sooty, PaGuy, RB, Dew, SD and everyone else who stops by-Wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

                    Merry Christmas!
I am playing Monopoly with son #2, the one with a PhD in economics. Not fair!
Will be back later or tomorrow but...I can not live with my HB any more than 2 or 3 days and I'm way overdue on that. Too depressing for a Xmas evening talk. Would much rather think about my game of Monopoly.
I need to buy Boardwalk and Park Place and wipe him out!!!

I'm planting myself in front of the fire for the rest of the evening so I don't care what it's doing outside :H

                          December Determination ~ Week 4

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.--unknown

Greetings Determined Ones and Happy Boxing Day! I asked a friend and found out what "Boxing Day" means. We don't have it here in the States. It is Old World.
Boxing Day my friend is the day after Christmas day. So called because it was the day the rich people gave the servants a gift (usually money) in a box - hence the name! Well thats what I was always told anyway.
Christmas was very nice here yesterday. We had a nice gift exchange and dinner with our son and family, and we had phone calls with our daughter and other family members far away. Thanks to the internet, pictures have already been shared by all. Our dinner was ham, mashed winter squash, mac&cheese (for the little one), green beans, and home baked rolls. We had pecan pie and sugar cookies for dessert. MMMMMMM!

I can't tell you how grateful I am that I was AF yesterday. I think it was the best gift of Christmas.

Sped, I am sorry you are having such a hard time. It sounds like some kind of action needs to be taken so that you can find peace. I am thinking of you and sending you strength and love.

Lav, Papmom, Paguy, Cyn and all on the east coast U.S., stay safe and warm. I'll be watching that storm on the TV and thinking of you!

Looking forward to a day of tidying up and putting things away.

                            Good morning Determined Ones!

Dill, I need to run out to the store to stock up on coffee & chips to see me thru the storm :H I should begin praying now that my neighbors have mercy on me & plow my driveway. Then with a shovel I can make my way to the chicken house to take care of the girls.

                            Will be back later!

                              December Determination ~ Week 4

                              Hi everyone

In Ireland today is known as St. Stephen's Day. He was one of the first christian martyrs. It is also known in parts of the country as Day of the Wren - Irish legend linking episodes in the life of Jesus to the wren (small bird). In parts of the country persons carrying either an effigy of a wren or an actual wren in a cage travel from house to house playing music, singing and dancing. I was brought up in the west of Ireland and it was known as wrenboys day and all the children travelled to their neighbours houses (not with the wren) but they sang and danced and were given money. It still goes on but is not a custom where I am living now.

We are dining on leftovers today. Yesterday we had smoked salmon as a started, tomatoe soup, roast turkey, ham, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, carrots and parsnips, two different stuffings and xmas pudding with cream for desert. I was waddling around the place by evening.

Still white with snow here but looking forward to rain. Take care during the storm Lav, believe its bad in the US at the moment.

Hope you all survived the holidays ok and a big hello to one and all.

I have had a wonderful AF boxing day.......

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day, had brunch with McLibra man then we went a lovely long walk with the dog. Later I went down to the beach and joined a crowd of friends for a very late lunch and we stayed down there to watch the sunset,

Im home now on my own and im going to enjoy a quiet evening and have an early night. I have my yoga workshop tomorrow morning then McLibra is coming for dinner, yes there seems to be some changes going on in our relationship I am uncertain of my feelings but after much nagging from friends and family im going to give it some commitment and see what happens.......

Dill - I love this avatar too!!! such fun.....

Im hoping everyone has managed the festive season so far AF.
