Weekly AA thread Dec. 27 - Jan. 2

Hi everyone. Today has been a wonderful day of reflection and gratitude for me. I just wanted to tell you all who post occassionally or frequently on the Weekly AA thread how very much you mean to me. Your support and sharing lifts me up and contributes positively to my sobriety. And without my sobriety, I am nothing. I thank you all for being part of my journey.

    :l

    Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! What a year it has been. Some of us lost family members, dealt with illness and other tragedy, but we did not drink over it. I am excited about my second NYE sober. Also this year I got to meet and hug DG in San Antonio. What fun that was. I hope you all have a great night.
      Love and Peace,
      Phil

          Happy New Years everyone,

I ditto DG in that this is a very reflective time for me. .. My first truly sober new years, I've tried many times before but that was white knuckle dry new years, I am so full of gratitude for my sobriety, the people on this thread.. AA right now. All I have to do is think back on how I was and how I am today and know that I have a higher power that is guiding me!!!As the BB says, I couldn't do it on my own power.. no matter how many times I tried.

Have a fantastic, sober NYE everyone!
May our choices today not result in regret, but rather be wise

            Happy New Year's Everyone!
This was my first New Year's Eve sober in probably 26-27 years. Wow. It was a great day and night. We had a few friends over for a nice dinner, the kids were here, and it was lovely!
I almost can't wait to get to bed and get up with a clear head on my very first New Year's day without a hangover. How exciting - I might not be able to sleep because of that!
Going to my regular Sat. morning homegroup meeting, so I'm looking forward to that more than I ever have.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Well, it's the first day of 2011, & I feel hopeful. Yes, sobriety makes everything so much better. When I looked at the front page of this morning's paper, the headline was: "Record number of OUI's this year!" I'm not even close to being a part of that unfortunate statistic. I'm getting ready for my AA potluck: good food, good conversation, good fun, good games, no drinking. Later we'll all go to our fav discussion meeting. Happy New Year! Mary

Happy New Year y'all. I made it to my 630am meeting for my first meeting of 2011. There was an opportunity at 2am but I passed on that.

Happy New Year everyone. It's been awhile since I've visited or posted on this forum. I'm currently in an outpatient program, on Campral and I am attending both SMART Recovery and AA meetings. I think I need to order the MWO book because I just can't fail again this time around, my body can't take anymore abuse. I'm finding a lot of the information on this website/forum very interesting and helpful.

Hi Anthony and welcome. Good for you being willing to incorporate all kinds of strategies into your sobriety. That's what I have done and it's working for me. I started out by following the diet, exercise, and supplement suggestions outlined in the My Way Out book. I also used the hypnosis CD's sold here. I then added some of the tools at SMART Recovery (i.e. ABC) and also attended SMART meetings. Then I started going to AA. If you are willing to do whatever it takes, and it sounds like you are, then you can succeed! Hope you will read and post lots. Definitely read the book.

Hi Anthony, welcome and don't give up. You can do this if you are willing to go to any lengths to maintain sobriety. It is not easy but can be done. It took me over two years of hanging out at this site before I finally made it to almost 400 days sober.
As DG's quote suggests, "choose your hard".

Weekly AA thread Dec. 27 - Jan. 2

Anthony: I've been a member of MWO since 2007. During the first 2 years I was here, I figured out that I needed to stop drinking. I relapsed plenty of times during those 2 years, but I never gave up hope. I made friends here, & that has been very important. In Mar. 2009, after a particularly bad drinking experience, I decided to give AA a try. I've heard that 90 meetings in 90 days is a good thing to do. Anyhow, with much trepidation & fear, I started going to AA meetings. It was exactly what I needed to stay sober. I now love meetings & the people in them. I wouldn't be sober today wo/AA. That said: I still come here to MWO daily...especially this and another AA thread. If you really want to get sober, I know you can & you will. Good luck. Mary
