By George I think she's got it (said in a My Fair Lady accent).
Way to go Lav!! ooooh, pretty view from Rusty's room!! Very cute EB!!

Thanks for the recipe Dill! I don't think I've ever tasted a parsnip in my life but do know they're a root veggie hence wondering if they tasted like taters. Does'n't seem too hard to make-maybe next sunday will be my cooking day (still need to make a crock pot curry chicken I bought ingredients for 2 weeks ago!!). Hold me to it OK???

          Jubilant January ~ Week 2

          Ok HI!!! (Again)

I'm not sure why my picture was so small...it kept telling me it was to big to begin with??? Weird! Anyway...
Rusty---PACKERS WON!!!! And, I'm glad you made it to Spain safe and sound!! Sorry that guy made you feel bad...if he was brushing up on 'manners' perhaps he doesn't have any!

Dew--thanks for that wonderful description of your day!! IO'm with Lav though...here in cow country I'm guessing I wouldn't find anything like that around here. In fact, we had a family move here from Boston (they are Jewish)...they don't even have a place to worship! They went to the "temple" we have here and were told they don't have enough members...but they might hold services ??? over the holidays!! Yikes huh?? And our town is 25,000!! SAD!!

Pap3--I really needed to get more cleaning done today!! Good job on being WAY more motivated than I!! :goodjob:

Dill--the soup sounds good...I think?? I'm not sure I like parsnips?? What's the flavor similar to?? I like most veggies except cooked peas (plain)...yuck! We went to my parents house for dinner...garlic chicken...or should I say GARILC chicken, asparagus, and baked potatoes!! YUM!!!

Well..I'm going to have to cut this a little short...I need to get the little man to bed....he's been a real stinker lately...and when I say stinker I mean naughtier than hell!!:H I took a plastic garbage bag and in went his wii, DSi, cell phone (which my sister got him for Christmas...I was PI$$ed!!), and computer privileges taken away, also no going out to eat or to movies or hockey games etc...he has to earn all those things. He's just so used to "getting" everything...and I mean everything!! SPOILED!!! He's been back talked and being disrespectful..and I've given him plenty of warnings his mouth was going to land him in trouble...this morning was IT!! He went to church with my parents and when he got home...GONE!! Ok...I'm done venting!! I will say, he's been an angel today!

It's been snowing all day...and suppose to snow all night and all day tomorrow and Tuesday...can I hear SNOW DAY in my future????
          Good Night ALL!!

              Jubilant January ~ Week 2

              Good Evening Jubilantees!

What a day this has been. I woke up in a really foul mood ? think it may be the prednisone working on me. So, I was not motivated at all to go to church services which I have been trying to get better at. Instead, I finished reading my latest book, ?Prayers for Sale? by Sandra Dallas. And by the time I finished reading, my spirits were completely turned around and uplifted. What a lovely book ? I highly recommend it. Great storytelling and I learned a lot about the rough and dangerous work in the gold mines and dredges. I want to read more books by this author.

The house is officially and completely de-decorated from Christmas ? Yeah! It took me the better part of yesterday followed up by lots of cleaning this afternoon. The prednisone really has me wired up right now and I can?t imagine being able to fall asleep this evening. It should be an interesting night and I have a very full schedule at work tomorrow ? Yikes!

So much is going on with this thread. It?s like the New Year has opened its gates and the Jubilant Ones are on the run ? it really is exciting to read all that is happening and the goings on.

Chill ? You are an amazing person and it really touched me when you talked about meeting with your ex-husband. And, the story of your mum meeting up with someone in Scotland who is looking to hire someone with your experience was so uplifting. Yes, there is a higher power looking down on you. I know you will get through this.

Rusty ? Glad you landed safely and thank you, Lav, for posting Rusty?s view of the Barcelona coast from her hotel room. It looks lovely. I really do want to visit Barcelona one day.

Dill ? I love parsnips but I have never made Parsnip Soup. I am going to give this one a try. This weekend, I made one of my favorite Lentil Soups with Leeks and Carrots.

Mylife ? Hope you enjoyed your time this weekend with your hubby. Are you anywhere in the track of the snowstorm this week up the East coast? I live outside of Philadelphia and they are predicting up to 20 inches of snow on Tuesday-Wednesday ? Dang!

              Daylight ? Welcome!

Rustop ? I know how you feel. If you miss a few days on this thread, it is so hard to keep up!

Cyn ? The tragedy in Tucson is dreadful. I can only imagine how it feels living so close to it. Stories such as this one are just senseless. Too many guns and too many lost innocent lives. Very sad.

Star ? We think so much alike. I often think about how much time is spent eating out these days. And, you are absolutely right. I know when we get lazy and go out to restaurants to eat dinner 3, 4 or 5 nights a week sometimes, I notice the extra pounds that come on. And, that?s without having any alcohol. Portion sizes are out of control and there are so many hidden calories and fat in restaurant food. I think I will be adding another New Year resolution to eat out less frequently.

Mr. G ? Have you decided what to wear for your ?Jumping out of a birthday cake? premier in February??

Lav ? Get ready for that snowstorm that?s coming our way. Hope your doggie is feeling better.

SD ? Did your Packers win? I think our Eagles lost tonight. I saw some forlorn posts on Facebook from some of my neighbors who are staunch Eagles fans. The only sport I really follow is baseball. As you may recall, I am a Phillies fan.

Dewdrop ? The more I hear about meditation the more I think I need to take a class. A gentleman I work with is from India and he is always telling me I should give it a try. A couple of times a year, he goes away for a weekend workshop of sorts for meditation. He really enjoys it.

PapMom ? Sounds like things will be changing with your weekend job with more interesting work? I?d like to think that?s a good thing. Good luck!

It?s going to be a very long week at work and I have to get my head around what to do next. I am so frustrated and unhappy with all that has been happening with poor leadership and management and how employees are being treated. It?s really giving me pause to think about how much longer I want to continue on. I really do have to give this a lot of thought as it?s eating away at me right now. This year may be the year for me to make a change. And, I am much more comfortable thinking about making that change knowing that I am not drinking anymore. See, another advantage of being AF!

Well folks, I know this is late so I hope you have a lovely remainder of your Sunday evening or of you are just waking up to Monday, have a great day?.

                Jubilant January ~ Week 2

                Good morning to all!

Paguy, I hear you about your work environment, as mine is also very messed up, toxic, if you will. Our company bought out another, in a hurry, it is a mess, and they are blaming the worker bees for no profits. We are being analyzed each week for our productivity. We are expected to put in 50 hours or more a week, for no extra pay. I found an error in my productivity analysis, brought it to my supervisor, and still have no answers. Also, computer mistakes, having to do with billing, also no answers yet. So, I have made up my mind to not worry, document everything I can, and just do my job with as little over 40 hours as possible. I have to stay away from others' negativity, as it will affect my mood, performance, and life. Might I add that my upper back is hurting from the stress, despite stretching, massasge, etc. I am working on it.

Rusty, the view from your room is breathtaking. It is interesting that you called the guy out on his ettiquette lessons.....I have a feeling it is more about his insecurities, rather than your deficiences. I really want to thank you for your support regarding my son and his issues. It is good to be able to vent.

Dew, your meditation day sounded so fulfilling. We have a buddist something in our town, I think it has to do with the Unitarian church in town. I am going to look it up. Anyone now anything about the Unitarians?

Chill, thanks for sharing your experience with your ex, you are going through so much right now. It is good to know you are taking care of yourself so well.

Dill, we say the new True Grit, and then watched the '69 version with John Wayne. I have to say I liked the current version better, but they are both so good. Enjoy and let me know what you think. There are differences in the story, too. I would like to read the book to see which one is truer to the original.

SD, love the way you are setting limits with your son....good job.

To all, have a great Monday, AF.

                  Jubilant January ~ Week 2

                  Good morning, JJ's!

Lav well done and thank you for the pics! EB is a cutie pie and Rusty's view is to die for!

Papmom and SD, parsnips taste more like carrots than potatoes. They have a lovely sweet taste. I had never eaten a parsnip until last January when Sooty posted the recipe. Of course, I had to go online to convert grams to pounds.

SD I agree with Star: well done on setting limits. It sounds like your son was crying out for some. The picture was great. Thanks so much for sharing! Did you do it from Photobucket?

Star, I watched the original True Grit last evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing the new one. I don't see how anyone could beat John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn though.

Paguy, thanks for the book suggestion. I have actually started a list of books to read when I get the time and 3 of your suggestions are on it!

I was interested in the comments about work environments. It must be universal! I was thinking about making a change, too, but worry that it might be the same where ever I go?

It is yet another frigid day here starting out at 12F. I am really growing weary of the winter. Well, nothing to be done about it but be grateful for my warm house and wood burning stoves. Have a great day one and all!
                  Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

                    Good morning all!

Glad to see this is still such a busy thread.

Rusty, just ignore the client -- I'm sure he/she is just nervous. I'm touring around executives from our Spanish and British Headquarters this week -- so you just made me nervous!! (LOL!) Actually, I've worked with the Spanish for years...and I never noticed any particular detail to etiquette??? And the British...well luckily these guys will be to busy drinking to notice any etiquette at all. And I'll be the interpreter between the two...and the designated driver so there will be no drinking for me!! That's the only good thing of it all!!

Lav/SD - what great pics. I would have no idea how to get a picture in here...!! Good job and what cuties!

Everyone else, sorry, but I know I won't remember all the names...have a great AF day!

                      Jubilant January ~ Week 2

                      Good morning JJ's

Oh, it is so good to be back in routine again!! Got to read my recovery reading this morning for the first time in ages so I thought I would share:

Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of others, but from doing something worthwhile. --Wilfred Grenfell (1865 - 1940)

Joy has nothing to do with material things, or with a man's outward circumstance. .. A man living in the lap of luxury can be wretched, and a man in the depths of poverty can overflow with joy. --William Barclay (1907 - 1978)

So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key.

And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years. --Abraham Lincoln

Sometimes even to live is an act of courage. --Seneca

I loved the first one. I am feeling so much joy at the moment. Starting the NY AF, very worthwhile. Back exercising again, walked in the woods this morning, first time since November. Started my meditation again and best of all, back online and able to share with all my MWO friends.

Lav - EB is adorable and loved the view from Rusty's room.

Rusty - Hope Spain is going ok. Think Star was right, it had more to do with his insecurities than you. Wanted to go to Barcelona a few years ago but the flights were cheaper to Madrid so we went there instead.

Dill/Sooty - Thanks for the parsnip soup recipe. I have one somewhere with apple and curry in it, must dig it out, will share it if anyone interested.

Papmom/SD - Another way we eat parsnip is to boil it up with carrott and puree the two of them together.

Star - You have the right attitude regarding work. Do it to the best of your ability without killing yourself. They may expect that of you but wont thank you in the long run.

Everyone else big hello and have a great week.

                          Jubilant January ~ Week 2

Hey Jubilators - just got caught up on all that is going on -- the dogs are frantic for breakfast, so I will just say good morning/evening to all and try to hop back on again shortly.

Chill - I had to leave a country environment for a city 7 years ago, and I thought my heart would break. It was a hard transition, but I have made it, and got my 2 dogs in the process, who cope with city life just fine. Someone posted that you will find solace places in the midst of the city, and that is really right - they exist, and you will find them. Is your move imminent? I can send you a list of my 'must-dos' for move preparation, if that would help you - wish I could be there to help you --

OK - I took notes on all the other things I'd like to reply to! But my dogs are about to eat me for breakfast, so - be back later ---
Have a great AF day all -

                            Good morning Jubilant Ones

John - 20" of snow? Tell me it's not so :upset:
Well, I'm much further south (1/4 mile from the MD state line) so I hope for a lot less snow to fall on me :chute:

I left my super stressful job 11 years ago & never regretted it! I had to get used to living with less income but it wasn't that bad. My goal was to get both kids thru college & quit, that's exactly what I did. My current income doing embroidery/monogramming is much less stressful & much more satisfying. Although I do need to kick myself to look for work from time to time.

I'm sneaking out this afternoon for a haircut, lunch with a friend & a stop at the supermarket for necessities.

I hope everyone has a fantastic day. I'll check to see if Rusty has sent anymore pictures & I'll get them posted for you

OK - dogs fed, now begging for a walk - will try to get this done before HB wakes up, when life gets really complicated!
John - I hope the prednisone is not making you crazy - be sure to take it early in the day...also careful in crowds, as it can really do a number on your immune system.

Rusty - glad you arrived safely - are you staying at the Barcelo, or one of the hotels east of old town? The view looks familiar!

Dill - you are our official researcher - thanks for the soup recipe (again). I realize that I never made it because I never took the time to figure out the grams....do you have a cups conversion that you used to make it?

PMom - I used to live in the Berkshires of MA, and the Kripalu Institute has meditation courses, I think -- check it out.

Lav - how adorable EB is! Thanks for posting yours, SD - it came through as a link, so I haven't looked yet...

Star, everyone, good luck with the work situations -- hang in there, I have a feeling that the tide will turn --

Ah, HB ariseth -- gotta go -- thinking of you all ---
