    Jubilant January ~ Week 2

    Good morning everyone

You are right Star, this is a great thread. Looks like everyone is coping but for anyone who is'nt, today's reading says it all:

"Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every
time we fall." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Found my recipe for the curried parsnip and apple soup so here it is:

    Curried parsnip and Apple soup:

    1 medium Parsnip
    1 Medium Cooking Apple
    1 Small Onion
    1 Clove Garlic
    2 Medium potatoes
    1 teaspoon Curry powder
    1 tablespoon Veg oil
    Salt and Pepper
    1 Litre chicken stock

Add chopped parsnip, apple, onion and garlic to veg oil in a saucepan and saute for a few minutes, add curry powder, stir, add stock and sliced potatoes, salt and pepper. Bring to the boil and simmer for approx. 20 mins. Liquidise, adjust thickness and seasoning.

Have just had my walk with the doggies, going to do my body scan and then have to spend the rest of the day in the attic putting away the christmas decorations. I just took everything down and stored in the spare room, hate this part of it! Oh, well wont have to do it for another year.

Have a great AF Tuesday everyone.

      Jubilant January ~ Week 2

      Greetings JJ's,
I'm short on time so it will be a quick hello from me today. A snow storm is on its way, but not early enough to close schools, so this may be one of those worst-case scenarios: arrive at school, big snow hits, Super cancels at noon and everyone scrambles to get home safely. Well....that's not the absolute worst. The absolute worst is if we all arrive at school, then the weather turns so bad that the buses can't run and we stay the night!:H

Cyn, the conversions for Sooty's Parsnip soup: 500 grams = approx. 1 lb, 250 grams = approx. 1/2 lb., 1 litre = a little less than a quart.

Rustop, thank you for the recipe. It sounds delicious and I look forward to giving it a try!

LBH, it doesn't surprise me that you have carved out a little forest retreat in your little city. It makes complete sense to me. It did make me wonder if you planted the trees and about how old/tall they are. It shocks me when I look at the size of our spruce trees planted 20 years ago. Can we really be the people who long ago planted those big, lovely trees?

Star, keep a stiff upper lip. This time will pass.:l

Everyone, have a grat AF day!
      Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

        Good morning Jubilant Ones!

Sitting here waiting for the snow to start later this afternoon!
If it's 8 " or less John I'll be happy.

Rustop, thanks for the recipe. We just don't see recipes using parsnips over here although you can easily buy them in the supermarket.

Star, have you thought about talking to a counselor once or twice about the stuation with your son? Maybe they could help you draw up a Tough Love plan. He needs to get his a$$ moving forward!!! And you need to have the peace & quiet you deserve

I'm going to take a few pictures to post later today so you all can see my diaper cake attempt & the baby blanket I embroidered. I have a set of 9 baby animals in PJs designs that worked out great

        Have a good day all.
        Shelley, please stop in.

          Jubilant January ~ Week 2

I woke early but made a fennel tea and went back to bed with my supplements and a couple of meditation books I enjoy Wherever You Go There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn and Change Your Mind by Paramananda which I?m sure I?ve mentioned before. I also listened to the CD Body Scan Meditation by Jon Kabat-Zinn, most times I meditate myself but sometimes it?s good to do a guided meditation. I intend to spend today being mindful and aware and refuse to allow my mind to stray into work mode which it wants to do ? that can wait. Usually when I am off I spend the last day of my holidays in my home office ie spare bedroom to you and me, preparing for the next day. 2011 changes those bad workaholic habits.

I don?t use excel or any other spreadsheets for working out my budget just plain old paper and pen, tighten my belt and pare back when I really need to and try and put some aside for a raining day (seems to be raining a bit at the moment but manageable). This brings to my mind the awful floods they are still having in Australia, I cannot imagine how devastating it must be and have been checking in on the underoos thread to make sure everyone here is okay. The scenes on the tv are just awful and very painful to watch.

Another thought ? a few years ago I had two huge trees cut down on my property and spent the day watching three rather fit and toned men abseiling around the trees with chain saws in teeshirts, jeans, safety gear, hardhats etc. (you can imagine I?m sure). I must admit it was a very enjoyable day and of course I had to keep popping out with juice and cookies etc to make sure they were okay

I?m off for a walk in the sunshine ? yes it?s sunny today but cold of course, and enjoy my afternoon of quiet contemplation. My coalman delivered enough coal today to keep me going for another month so I am planning a roaring fire this evening and a feel good movie I think.

          Dewdrop :h
Enjoy today - there will be no other one quite like it....

                Jubilant January ~ Week 2

                Hey everyone,
Wish I could respond to everybody but this thread is pretty huge right now.
I'm trying to wind things up here in NM, on my way to Indiana on Friday. Rusty, girl, you better be home from Spain so we can meet. Oh and so glad you knew to keep your elbows off the table!
Cyn, so sad about happenings in Tucson, don't think it only happens in AZ though, it seems everywhere.
Chill, good luck with your move. I too have gone from rural to urban. It is an adjustment. Will you have family nearby?
                LBH, someday we must coincide.
Lav, read somewhere that you had a sick doggie; hope he's feeling better.
SD and Dill, been working the substitute public schools. Seems like no teachers want to come back to work after holiday.
Time with my husband has been well spent. He is very understanding of my need to go to Indiana.
Star, think that 20 inches of snow got very much south of Chicago?
Love you guys, sorry I've been out touch.

                    Good morning JJ's

Just a quick hello as have a busy morning ahead. Lav - you are one talented lady, thank you for sharing that with us.

Sped/Rusty - Safe travels, take care of yourselves. The world seems to be gone mad. A beautiful young Irish girl who was on honeymoon was murdered in Mauritis. She went back to her room for something and interupted a robbery and they strangled her. It seems it was hotel staff. Ugh, its bad enough if it was an accident but you should feel safe where you are staying and it was a 4 or 5 star hotel.

Rain is back but not complaining, at least we can move around. Catch you all later.

                        Hola, Jubilant Amigos!

                        Just a quick check-in.

Lav, that baby blanket is AMAZING!!!! A bunch of my nieces and nephews will be having babies in the next couple of years and I think I will commission you. Do you take peon customers like me or just the big, corporate ones? And that cake, OMG! I have never seen a cuter cake. You are soooo talented.

Shelley-look out for the snow, woman! Wisconsin got pounded so you know Chicago will be worst. You must have ovaries of brass to drive from NM to IN like you do. A rolling stone is what you are. Ok, so January and February are not going to work. Then, March. So you come to Wisconsin in March. We'll still have snow.

Ok, I have to tell you this....we've talked before about how we Google language translation when we travel to different parts of the world. Well, the part of Barcelona I'm working in is Catalan. It has its own dialect. Last night, we went to dinner and we're looking at the dessert menu and it's a dessert which is basically cheesecake with honey poured on top. In the menu it says, "Money and Killed.":H:H

Last day, working! Then it's on to fun.

                        Love you guys!

                          Jubilant January ~ Week 2

                          Good morning all,

Sped, Indiana is getting nailed with snow.....school closings, delays, and more snow. We easily had another 6-8 inches yesterday, with more expected. Yes, south of Chicago, too. Just go slow and take your time. I find night driving is the most difficult and dangerous. At least if I can see the road I have a better chance.

Lav, we have talked to counselors, psychologists, neuropsychologists, and numerous psychiatrists for the last 12 years. Seriously. They have not helped, instead, the medications prescribed caused increased physical and mood issues. And tough love does not work in this situation. It is not just a case of being lazy, it is not understanding social cues, organizational problems, time managment deficits, tic disorder, and mood issues. It is normal in these situations to want to blame the parents, but my daughter is totally functional, tough love worked with her, and she learned from her mistakes. We are just tired and worn out, emotionally and financially. I understand it will be an ongoing issue for the rest of our lives. Sometimes, there are not easy solutions to problems.

My eating plan and exercise plan went well yesterday, and physically I am feeling great. I will continue on this path and hope to see big changes once spring get here. I am more and more convinced that any alcohol at all is just not in my future. Continuing to lurk in the other threads, I see with clarity that drinking has no advantages whatsoever, it is all just distorted thinking. Being AF gives us health, hope, and emotional stability.

Rustop, your soup recipe sounds so interesting, I am going to have to try it. Thanks for sharing.

Everyone, have a peaceful and productive, AF, hump day.

Hola, Again....taking a break from work!

Star-I have complete empathy....I'm sure you're damned sick of everybody, albeit well-meaning, giving you advice on how to handle the situation with your son. Like you haven't tried these avenues for 20+ years!! I'm positive you have tried every possible method, chosen every path, and exhausted yourself mentally and financially to try and help him. He has myriad issues and beasts he has to deal with simultaneously and I'm sure he's overwhelmed when he wakes up in the morning and thinks, "OMG, what beast do I deal with first?" Coming out, loneliness, no job...where do I start? I won't. Screw it. I think I'll go back to bed :upset: I have particular empathy for you because my very best friends have a 38-year-old son they have to support financially. He is a lonely, angry young man, and they are heartbroken. Sending you hugs, Star. You're in my thoughts on a daily basis.:l:h

                            Love,

                              Jubilant January ~ Week 2

Good morning JJers!! PM3 checking in from very snowy, stormy in the midst of a good old fashioned blizzard Central Mass, USA.

I've been off line since Monday nite at 9pm when I had just finished a lengthy post to you all and hit the send button. Got the "webpage not available" message. Looked at my sys tray and big red X through my internet icon. Huh?? Looked at my phone (remember I was accessing the internet through my EVO to save money) and it was black. Double
I had been charging it through my PC so I switched over to a regular outlet. Nothing. Tried turning it back on. Nothing. My phone was totally dead. Took out the battery and put it back in. Brought it out to my car and tried that charger. Nothing. Deader than a doornail. Panic starts to set in. Not only do I no longer have internet service, but I have no way to contact the outside world!! My only other phone source is internet based!! It was a restless nite to say the least! yesterday morning I made an appointment to bring it to the sprint store at lunch to see what the problem was. Decided to plug it in again just in case. Didn't want to get down there and have the phone make me look like a dumb blonde!! You guessed it: it started charging AND turned back on! Now I know that the electricity coming through the school is not more effective than that coming through my home :H !! Long story long (have you grabbed your sandwich yet?) I made a snap decision to go back to my old internet provider even tho it would cost me $20 more a month. I was lucky enough to get an installation appt for last nite and here I am on a very secure and stable internet connection and feeling so much better!! Now I can use my magic jack device which didn't work when I was using the EVO as my connection so I have another source of telephone in case my phone conks out again (as long as I have internet). I just can't afford to order a regular land line at $30/month or more so this will have to do. Whew!!

Sorry I didn't post last nite. The tech didn't get done until 7:30 and I have a wicked bad cold so I pretty much went straight to bed.

The snow is amazing and I just heard thunder a few minutes ago. There a lot of outages on the east and southeast part of the state. Right now we have over 10" of snow and it's not predicted to end until after 8pm. No agility tonite I'm guessing!! Not sure I'm up for it anyway.

My school was cancelled at 6pm last nite. Never in my 20 years of working there have they closed the nite before a storm even began!!

I wish I could remember my post of last nite but my head is too clogged so I apologize.
I will say welcome back SPED!! We missed you and hope you are doing OK. Safe travels to IN.

Lav, that diaper cake is unbelievable and the blanket is pure genius!!

Rusty-glad you can have some fun now in Barcelona

                              Star-:l :l :l

chill, rustop, dew, john, dill, cyn and anyone else stopping by -hope you all have a great day

Snow on the ground but the sun is out this morning Looks like about 4" out there so not bad at all.

Enjoy the rest of your stay in Barcelona & don't eat anything with the word 'monkey' in it

Star, I hope I didn't offend you with my comment yesterday. I understand you are suffering with your current situation with your son. I probably shouldn't have used the term tough love - I was really thinking about someone helping him to make a life plan & giving him a nudge in that direction. :l

Well, I'd get get moving & clear a path to the chicken house. They should be OK with food & water until I get there. Papmom, I just saw pictures of Boston on the news - that's a lovely blizzard :H Enjoy your day off!

Greetings to Rustop & everyone I missed.

Hope everyone has a terrific AF Wednesday.
