    Lav,

Good luck with the shower today! I wish I could be there to see the look on your daughter's face when she sees the beautiful blanket and the fabulous Diaper Cake. If I were on the east coast, I would beg John to come with me and we would happily crash your party, or at least help yuo clean up:H Wishing you a happy day, today, dear Lav. :h

      Jubilant January ~ Week 3

      Lovely Sunday morning to all

Slept in today as we stayed up till midnight after seeing Fiddler on the Roof. It was wonderful, well done, and the music was so enjoyable. We are going to get tickets for something again soon.

Rustop, I am excited about the kitchen, we all spend tons of time in there, so it will be fun to have it looking good.

Busy day today, wishing everyone a great AF Sunday.

        Jubilant January ~ Week 3

Hi JJs and a happy sunday to us all. Mine is half way over!

Lav I hope the shower is a roaring success - and your cake and blankie are well received, as I'm sure they will be!

Can I ask a cookery question to you American folk please? I'm expecting visitors soon and the daughter is a vegan. I've bought a book of vegan cake baking which is a US book.
Some of the recipes call for applesauce - here applesauce would be pureed cooked apple with a squirt of lemon juice. Its usually served with pork here in the uk.

Is it the same thing over the pond please? Apparently its a good raising agent!

I've just made pear and berry muffins as an experiment but they didn't need applesauce - the raising agent was baking powder, oil and vinegar! They are very nice even if I say so myself. And of course they are absolutely calorie free :H

        Take care everyone
        love Sooty

Hi Sooty! Yes, applesauce is cooked pureed apples. Some people add sugar, some don't. I imagine some add lemon juice if the apples need a little more tartness. I hope that helps!

If I did not have Lord Bird Heart I would probably change my schedule quite a bit, get up very early, have an early dinner and be in bed
This describes my situation as well. I often cook with the crock pot so I can avoid the whole dinner prep craving time. I listen to my iPod a lot, especially from about 4-7pm. There are lots of interesting podcasts to subscribe to that help fill the time. I think you might enjoy this one:
          Podcasts - Radiolab

Star, I'm glad you enjoyed Fiddler. That's one of my favorite musicals. As for books, I too am reading Unbroken. It is a biography and is really well done. The man that the book is about was an Olympic athlete in the 30's-40's. He is still alive today.

Lav, I hope your shower went off without a hitch! Thanks for getting week 3 started.

Greetings to PM3, Sped, SD, mg72, RB, Dew, Chill, Rusty, Rustop, Paguy, G, Cyn, mylife, daylight and all who stop in.
          Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Oh Lav, I hope you had a wonderful shower. can't tell you how famous I am for my unusual potluck/shower dishes and wish I could have been there with one of mine (or LBH's as NM cooks seem to be eclectic as well as delicious). I will not mention grandma jealousy ever again!!

I am in the Hoosier state of Indiana. Everywhere I go it seems the skies turn blue and the temps soar. It's like a New Mexico curse. When I arrived this morning the sky was white; it was 20 degrees. This evening at 5'o'clock there's not a cloud in the sky and it's about 38 degrees, which to me is walkin around comfortable weather. Forecast for snow tomorrow; I can only hope/pray.

Star, I'm curious, did your husband go to Fiddler on the Roof? Mine would rather be drawn and quartered, tho never admit it. He's not a musical theater type of guy.
Also, thanks for the book recommendation, Unbroken. We should do more of this on our web site. My recommendation, after LBH's Shantaram, is A Fine Balance by a Canadian author, Minisrty. Forget his first name but he won the Booker Prize, equivalent to our Pulitzer.

Rusty, tapas are numero uno for my food loves. We had them in Santa Fe for my son's rehearsal dinner.

Pay, I know how u feel about losing posts, heart felt posts, my recommendation is to post as quickly as possibly, even in segments, like right now!

Sooty, I use applesauce to replace some of the fat when baking certain things - works great!

Shelley, glad you are safe & sound & hope you get some snow tomorrow!

Hello to everyone, hope you had a great day - I did

                  Good Evening All!

Quick post as I'm just super grumpy and have been all day....not sure why...maybe weather, maybe having to go back to work tomorrow, maybe not getting all that I wanted to get done this weekend??? I dunno....just in a funk...don't want to bring the group down!

Lav--so glad your party was a hit!! Your daughter is beautiful!!! Not saying your DIL isn't but your daughter just has such a beautiful 'glow' about her...she looks very happy!! EB is a cutie pie for sure!!!

                    Good Sunday Evening....

Chill - Where are you? Hope you are doing OK. Sending :l to you.

Lav - What a GREAT picture! You sure do have a fertile family, Grandma! :H Glad to hear the shower went well today and that you had nice weather.

Star - When I was a senior in high school, our annual musical production was 'Fiddler on the Roof'. I was first clarinetist in our high school 'pit band' and I played the bottle dance solo. Your message brought back some great memories for me!

Sooty - I use applesause, too, in some of my baking - mostly muffins. It works out well.

Speaking of muffins, I have a bag of cranberries in the fridge that need some attention. Maybe some cranberry muffins will be on the horizon for me sometime this week.

SD - Hope you get out of your funk. It happens to all of us. Hang in there.

Sped - Good to see you back. But, you can keep the snow in Indiana, OK?

I took a late afternoon nap today and woke up very energized so this is late for me. I'm usually under the covers by this time. I just started a new book so will probably make some headway on that tonight.

Get ready for a new week folks - it is here!

                        Good morning all.

Chill, thanks for checking in, I was concerned when you did not show up for a time.....sorry you are having a difficult time. We are here for you if you want to talk, otherwise, sending you strength.

Sped, yes my husband went to the musical. He was a good sport about it, but really not his favorite thing to do. He was worried about the Stealers game, but a man behind us had an IPhone and had the score. I thought it was funny, these football addicts, whereever you go. We are really focusing on being totally AF, period. Forever. So, we are consciously doing new things, setting up projects at home, etc. We've gone back and forth for the last several years, and the conclusion is that our drinking days need to be over, for health reasons, personal respect, and because it is just time.

Hello to all and have a productive AF day.

Chill, hang in there friend. I hope you can cheer up soon, but it must be very difficult for you at the moment. You will get through.

SD, we are off today in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.. I was surprised to hear you had to work today. I hope a good night's sleep improved your mood.

Sped, if warm weather follows you where ever you go, how about visiting here in southern Ohio?:H It's 12F here at the moment.

Star that's great that you and Mr. Star are on the same page and so committed. Good for you both!

I'm meeting with some friends for a walk and lunch at a local Chinese restaurant today. It will be a pleasant way to spend the day, to be sure! AF wishes to all!

                              Good morning everyone

Just a quick check in from me.

Lav - What a fantastic photo, thanks for sharing. They are lucky Grandkids to have you in their lives.

Chill - Take care of yourself, thanks for checking in and come back when you are ready.

Star - you are lucky that hubby is coming from the same place as you regarding alcohol. Mine drinks wine every night and it is difficult for me to have it constantly there. I am trying to do things that do not involve alcohol or I choose to drive to events. I have to take care of my own sobriety.

Sooty - Muffins, favourite and my downfall, wish I could come to your house for afternoon tea.

Everyone else big hello and have a great week.
