AF daily - Friday, Feb 11th

    Hello abbers!

It was my girlfriend's birthday yesterday and we went out for dinner with four of her friends. So there were six of us - five drinking, me not drinking. And it was great. Had lots of laughs and really nice food. I genuinely didn't want any alcohol. I know lots of lurkers read this thread and I see people elsewhere asking if it's possible to get to point where you really don't want to drink and I just wanted to emphasis that yes it is! I was meeting a few people I didn't know (there were drinks with more people in the bar before dinner) and was a bit nervous because I want to make a good impression with her friends but it didn't even cross my mind to have a drink.

Oh, and we split the bill at the end and a couple of people insisted that I paid less than everyone else because I hadn't had any wine or cocktails - and that was a nice side benefit and covered the cost of a cab home! And waking up with a clear head today... priceless!

I'm not complacent about this - I still put the work in but it really does pay off.

DG - XNGF knows all about the popcorn-eating voyeurs and thinks it's very funny.

BB - we're going to the Ardeche, about an hour's drive from Nimes airport. Do you know it? I've been to France many times (always had summer holidays there when I was a kid) but never been to that part.

Papmom - yes, we're going to NYC/CT in April (from 13th to 20th). I didn't want to start a whole "NYC meet-up" thread and be responsible for organising a round-up but if there's an opportunity to meet few people, that would be great.

Au revoir everyone - see you in a week or so - be good!

Marshy, is that you?????? No wait. That will be us popcorn eating voyeurs this weekend.

    P3, I don't think I got 9 smilies. I think some of the birthday smilies are 2-fers.

Marshy, I love your description of truly not wanting to drink in a situation that WOULD be a trigger for most of us earlier on the sobriety path. So inspiring to read about overcoming the demon! Glad you had fun. That is a situation in the old days where I would have made an ass of myself. I'm still a bit uncomfortable in drinking situations. Not because I want to drink - thank goodness that compulsion seems to have left me too (for today anyway!). I'm still learning how to be comfortable in my OWN skin without any lubricants, etc. I hope we all have a LOT of fun this weekend - and of course you and XNGF too. Since we will all be in that fabulous place in France and everything. Don't do anything I wouldn't too. Cameras and all that.

Today will be a long one so I better go make myself a decent breakfast. I really am getting in touch with how my foods and timing of meals affects my moods, etc. It all makes a world of difference when I get it right! (which I don't always...yet. Like yesterday!)

One thing is for sure. No AL for this girl today.

      Morning everyone!

Marshy, I so much wish I was going back to France with you. I would love some of that food right now and a healthy expensive shopping trip as well. I don't know if I've been there or not, there are so many places we were at which were gorgeous but passing through to get to another destination. Have fun! Please pick me a gorgeous french man who knows how to cook! That's great you had no urge to drink and still had fun! I have a dance tomorrow to go to, and I have no plans on drinking. I'm actually not fearing it like I would have been about 6 months ago but I've made so much great progress that I'm feeling good about myself and who I am now. So, I'm getting dressed up all pretty and I'm going to have fun, watch my brother sing and enjoy the night with a good friend and my parents.

DG, I feel so much better when I eat properly and when my body tells me I need to. I don't tend to eat at times because it's either breakfast, or lunch or dinner time, but I eat when I'm hungry. I have lots of healthy things ready and I find I eat less as well when I do. I think that's what is help maintaing my weight. But I do cook a lot and will eat a full steak or chicken meal anytime of the day, my stomach doesn't know what time it is nor does it care, it just knows it needs nutrients. Last night for a snack I had grilled shrimp which was delicious. Yummy!

One thing is for sure! No AL for me!

        Hello,

Marshy you sound great - so happy! GF has definitely been good for you. I love hearing that you didn't want a drink and look forward to feeling the same way more and more. And that was considerate of the group to have you pay less. I don't mind subsidizing a group actually - would rather do that than have them leave me out because how much I pay is an issue.

Hi DG - hope you had a nice breakfast. Timing of meals is a killer definitely. Eating between meals - disastrous unless planned for.

I'm off to gym today to do my 60 minutes on the treadmill - 6.5 miles. I've been doing this 3x/week for more than a month and it gets easier. I have 3 TV's set to the channels I want so I go back and forth - makes the time pass better and sometimes I learn something.

        Bye for now!

Morning Gaia! Have a great time at the gym, nothing like a good workout to help. Do you lift weights as well? I did a lot of core strength training which I found was really great and helped with my overall weight control and toning. Keeping the muscles in different movements helped me, and even thought I havent been to the gym in years I've still got really great back muscles. Always looks nice in a dress..lol.

              Good morning Abbers!

Marshy, glad you are feeling so strong, happy, etc

              Greetings everyone!
Nothing super special on my planbook for the day, most likely house cleaning & other mundane chores. I am happy to hear the weather report though - warm temps, melting snow - YES!

Hope everyone has a terrific AF Friday!

                Morning abbers!

I'm tired today for some reason - probably because I have kept myself very busy all week. Little uni has a pd day so she is at home with me today, not sure what we are going to do. Probably bake some cookies.

I picked up a desire chip at my home group last night. I got so much support from everyone, it felt really nice. I'm feeling a lot more supported, I got a really great new sponsor and it helps.

Okay, I'm off! Have a good one guys, I'll check in later.

Oh and Lav - that is hillarious about EB on the phone talking about putting the chickens to bed - priceless!

                          Hi again all!

Reno sun sounds devine. Here, it was snowing earlier but the sun is out now - making the ice bergs glow! :H

Cassia, I hope your migraine goes away quickly!

AFM, I don't envy you a long meeting like that!

                          Hey ho Greenie!

Uni, so happy to hear you like your new sponsor!!!!! :l

Lav, how much snow do you guys have on the ground now? We have lots and it's supposed to get in the high 30's and even 40's soon. I think flooding will be next. We might need an ark.

BB - hope you have fun this weekend at the dance.

Gaia I am envious of your workout! Due to circumstances beyond my control I am on my 2nd day without Curves!

I hope the mechanic place gets here soon with the repaired truck. I got zoom zoomin' to do.
