            Good Evening Marvelous Ones:

Kind of a dull and boring work week for me - lots of meetings and more to follow for the next 2 days. I did manage to hit the gym early this morning to get a 5 mile run in so that made me feel a little better about sitting on my bum all day!

Papmom - Maybe I should try the supplements to curb my sugar cravings. I try to remind myself that a low calorie yogurt and an apple would be a much better choice than brownies, cookies or cake... but, I don't always win the battle. Boredom and frustration seem to be key drivers for me to seek out the sweets.

Mylife - I am an exercise enthusiast but I still have sugar cravings. In fact, I've noticed that my cravings have increased since I ramped up my running schedule. Go figure!

My goodness, if Lent starts next week that also means Mardi Gras is next week! Easter is so late this year I completely lost track of when Lent started. I think I'll stay focused on remaining AF and keeping up with my exercise goals for Lent. So far, I have a half-marathon and a 5K race planned between now and Easter.

In a hotel room for the next 2 nights so I hope to finish reading my latest book and stay out of trouble...

Hope you all have a peaceful evening...

              Good Evening Everyone,

John, I'm in a hotel room the next two nights, too....in a Chicago suburb. Boring day at work, too. Good for you for sticking to your fitness goals. I'm off to the gym.

              Have a wonderful evening, everyone.

Chill and John-re: sugar cravings. All I know is that the past year and more so since about the holidays, my cravings were totally out of control. I tried to have willpower but it was something different going on. Much like the cravings for AL. All I know is that now I have a few weeks of the supps in my system, I am crazed no longer for whoopie pies nor do I have any desire for the candy that's in the office. I definitely have an easier time choosing a piece of fruit now. I still have my pseudo whoopie pie in the evening with tea but it isn't doing even a fraction of the damage the real whoopie pies and candy were doing. I would give it a go, esp. the L-glut and the Gaba. Also, the stuff on the net does say that 5-HTP will also help with cravings. I've been on that about a week now just in the evenings to help with sleep. I suppose I can try taking it 30 min before meals to see if it curbs my appetite but I'll need to stock up on it with a bigger bottle. Luckily I can get it at CVS instead of ordering it from MWO.
Chill-I take my L-glut in capsule form. I have never tried opening the capsule and putting the powder under my tongue like some people recommend. You can order L-glut and Gaba from MWO and their prices really aren't that bad.

                  Good Mornings guys

1st day back to work for me after my break, always difficult to crank up the enthusiasm but it will keep me out the cookie jar Papmom I can get the L glut capsules here and I did actually take them for a few months when I 1st quit so it's worth another go. It will be easier now that I'm back as I will no longer be looking at tasty muffins in the coffee bars. Portugese culture is very different and there is much less junk food available. Also candy is much more expensive as it's all imported so less tempation.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone, I will check back in tonight.

                    Good morning everyone

Welcome back Chill. It's nice to get back into routine after being away and I always find it easier to keep my hand out of the cookie jar as you just said.

I think we all fight sugar cravings. Sometimes its hormonal, other times just boredom with me. I always gave up sweets for lent when I was young. The last few years it has been alcohol but this year it will be sweets again!!! We were told this week at the weight watcher meeting that it is 7 weeks to Easter so we should aim at 1lb a week. Something to aim for I guess. I have been pigging out the last two days, chinese takeaway and I baked scones yesterday morning so have to get back on track today.

Have a great AF Thursday everyone.

Food, food, food. Yesterday at work, there were all kinds of food everywhere......cookies, chips and salsa, brownies, a carry in for a birthday. Today, a carry in for lunch. I had a bit yesterday, and will probably eat more than usual today. It is really hard to say NO to myself. There are a lot of really fat people at my work, so they bring in food all the time. That doesn't sound very kind but they do eat alot, and often, and that is why they are so overweight.

Am I understanding correctly Papmom, that L-glut, Gaba, and 5htp help with food cravings? When and how much do you take? I would really appreicate if you shared that info.

Nothing exciting going on, I was just up really early after falling asleep during American Idol. I have been sleeping so well and for a long time. At least 7-8 hours. It is so healing.

For some reason, in the middle of the afternoon, when I am going through my tired spurt, I get a craving and think, "I want to drink tonight." Then I use my common sense and think, "what for, so you can feel like sh** tomorrow, ruin this great streak of AFness, have to start over." Anyone else having cravings pop up at odd times?

                      Have a great AF Thursday.

                        good morning M3s!!

Star-I take 1000 mg of L-Glut 2x/day ( MWO says you can take up to 3000mg and I've seen on the threads people whoe have taken way more), 750mg GABA in the morning and 50 mg of 5-HTP at night. I'm probably going to up that to 100 mg of 5-HTP as I'm still not sleeping all the way through the nite and that's the dose that is available without going through MWO (although I did buy a packet of empty capsules so i could divide the dose when I first got it into 25mg dose. 5-HTP can cause nausea at first so it's recommended to go with low doses for a few days and gradually work up to where you want to be. So far I've had no side effects). Interestingly 5-HTP is also supposed to work on calming Restless Leg Syndrome which I suffer from. I think I have to be up to the 100 mg dose in order for it to be effective because the one or two times I tried to go without my Mirapax I suffered greatly. I have also started Magnesium again at night. I forget why but everytime I come across something that says Mag is very helpful I say then why aren't I taking it? So now I am. :H
OK, must get ready for work. Boo.

                          Good morning marchers!

Star - I too think about having a glass of wine at strange times (other than the normal times when I would get cravings). Was watching a sitcom last night and the woman was drinking a glass of wine - for 2 seconds, wished that could be me but I know I would never stop at just 1 so what's the point?

When I quit AL in January, I actually lost almost 4 pounds over a couple of weeks - well I have certainly put them all back on! Chocolate and sweets are what I'm craving now and I need to stop! I'm going to start taking the L-Glut again. I like the capsules because I would open them up and mix them in my tea. Really need to get started on an exercise routine as well.

Papmom3 - does the 5-HTP help with sleeping? Thought I read that somewhere before. I am sleeping about 99% better than I was a couple of months ago. Sleep is so precious to me these days - makes the awake part of the day so much better.

To all of you that are traveling and away from home - hope you can get back to your own beds soon! Don't know about you guys but sleeping anywhere but in my own bed is almost impossible for me!

                          Have a great day everyone!

                            Good morning all!

Coffee is brewing downstairs and I need to run -- but wanted to pop in and say hello first!

Jolie, I have started this week with the exercise. It feels great, but I'm sore!! That will hopefully pass by next week! Also, I started back on the supps and All-In-One this week and I feel better already.

Have a wonderful AF day all!

Star - I find the most common time I get random thoughts of drinking is when I am in the car driving home from work. Just recently, on several occasions, I had a very vivid sensation of tasting olives (which, of course, were accompanied by a martini). For me, I think it is the boredom of driving alone in the car (I have about an hour commute) and in my drinking days, I was always planning my drinks for the evening while I was heading home from work.

But, like you, I quickly remind myself of the progress I've made and how awful I would be feeling the next day.

                              Have a great day folks!
