Marvelous, Magnificent March - Week 5

Lav-if your chicken shows up I think I'll keep her. I would love some fresh eggs!!! Besides she can eat the ticks that will no doubt show up in my yard on the first warm day. did you hear about the Nor 'easter we're supposed to get in NE this Friday???? I remember the April fools blizzard we got about 10 years ago, maybe more? 3 feet of snow! Pretty much melted 2 days later!!

Welcome Newgrange. Hope you stick around!

    LBH-that was beautiful!!

Chill-why can't my physical me do what my healthy me wants to do? Eat right, exercise etc. I am never going to be ready for the agility trial at the end of April if I keep eaing the way I have been. Grrr!!!

Sooty-I too have a HUGE stash to give away to charity. Just gotta get off my butt, load it in my car and GO!!

Jolie-that happens to me all the time! Something to do with the way my wrists rest on the laptop. So frustrating!!

Jolie - 29 years of shiftwork made me freaking crazy!!!!
Unfortunately you just can't get away from it in certain professions. That one of the reasons I was so bitterly disappointed that YB took the cop job a year after we were married. Two shift workers in one marriage = disaster!

Papmom, my best chicken is 'Stella' ~ I had her picture on here a while ago. I'm sure she's like to spend some time with you
I heard about the Nor'easter - they are talking about a measurable snowfall around here - GEEZ!
I might end up pulling all my feathers out - I'm sick of this winter weather :H:H

      Oh - here's Stella

      Wishing everyone a good night!

        Good morning my dear friends

Lav - it's so nice to see your chickens is such a lovely clean spacious pen, I used to work on a poultry farm in my teens and it was by no means cruel but indoor henhouses which were pretty depressing.

Papmom - I really understand about the wanting to eat heathly but not doing it. I eat well all day then in the evening after dinner, I settle down to watch tv and then I pig out. I have been really observing my though process and actions recently as I want to alter it and realize it's habitual behaviour just like an addiction. I think it probably got worse when I quit AL as I needed something to do with my hands. I ate the last bag of pretzels last night and won't buy any today so I will let you know how my experiment goes tonight!

:welcome: Newgrange, glad you have joined us, please let us know if we can help with anything you are experiencing.

Oh and happy hump day to all and Sooty......

          Good morning everyone

Thanks for sharing the picture of your ladies, Lav, very impressive.

Papmom - I think we all struggle with the eating thing. I exercise every day but go off the rails with food at times. Joined weight watchers 2 months and have lost 5 lbs so far. Its slow but I am eating on this new plan. I think I have to resign myself to the fact that I will have to go for a weigh in every week, its the only way I'll keep on track. The night time snacking used to be a real problem for me but since giving up wine, I find it much easier. Having said that at the end of January I went on a complete sugar/chocolate binge.

Went to a comedy play last night and really enjoyed it. It was called 'The Quare Land' and was making fun of us Irish during the Celtic tiger years, very funny and very true at times!

Happy hump day to one and all. Girls have a half day on Wednesdays so I dont have as much time as normal.

            Good morning...

I woke up freezing and thought it was me, really cold. After about an hour I looked at the thermostate and realized that the painter lowered it to 52. No wonder it is so cold in here. Trying to heat up the house now. Geez.

LBH, wow, the extra four hours turns into much more as there is no hangover baloney. I loved your perspective, it is so true and lovely. Yesterday we went to a movie as our home is a shambles(and cold) and enjoyed ourselves, turning lemons into lemonade. The great thing is over time we add to our list of things we enjoy doing. At first we don't even know how to function, then as time goes on, we figure it out. Hopefully.

Some never do, and that is a tragedy, This disease kills people all the time. I have to keep that in mind.

Lav, March is March, spring in the north never gets warm in my experience, till May. Loved the picture of your chickens, they do look well taken care of. I love farmfresh eggs.

To all, have a great day.

Morning all and happy hump day. Its raining hard here - I suppose it was to be expected because we have had over a week of dry weather!

Lav, thanks so much for your kind offer but I think I've found the beans!!!!!!! I was telling a friend that I was looking for them and she told me where she'd seen them. Funny enough it was the shop I was going to get the ochra from cos that's not so common round here either As soon as I go to town I will investigate and report back.

I'm making a Moroccan aubergine and chick pea casserole today - that's vegan too if it works I'll post the recipe.

Chill I know what you mean about chicken farms there's one near here and I hate driving past it. I'm glad that Lav's ladies look so happy and content - I bet their eggs taste nicer too.

I'd better get moving, I've not done much yet today and the morning is half over -I'm a lazy old Sooty. I blame the weather :H

              Catch you later -
              love Sooty

Good morning from a lazy Lav!

I might get up with the chickens but I really don't move around much until the second cup of coffee gets me motivated:H Although I do need to get myself together as I'm expecting a YB visit at 9 am ~ he needs to sign tax papers.

I really do have 26 happy feathered princesses out there! They spend most of their day out in their fenced yard. I provide food & water for them out there too. They do go inside to use the nestboxes though - it's a pretty good setup.

Star, I seem to remember Spring happening sooner in the 'old days'. It seems like we just go directly from winter to summer anymore & skip the springlike weather.
My brother & his wife are still adjusting to Michigan weather. They moved there from NC two years ago where winter wasn't such a big deal. Fortunately they moved to a place that does all the shoveling & plowing for them as they are 65+.

Sooty - glad you found your limas!!!

OK, need to get in gear!
Wishing everyone a happy AF humpday!

Marvelous, Magnificent March - Week 5

It's been a long time since I've been here and with working long hours and trying to fit my studying in, I haven't had much time to lurk much less post. It sounds like you're all doing well and I'm glad. I've missed you all.

I wanted to share an experience I had last week. 4 years ago I met a woman at the gym who told me that she had been sober for 5 years, after going through treatment. At that time, my drinking had escalated. We went out to lunch and talked about her recovery process and how I wanted to tackle my AL issue. She left for graduate school to become an addiction counselor. We lost contact....and I suspected it was because I was still drinking at the time and she didn't want to be around me. I would e-mail her and not hear back. I ran into her last week, and she confirmed my thoughts. She said even after 5years of sobriety, she said my active drinking could have set her off. I thought it was kind of sad that even after 5 years, she was unsure of herself. Now, she is in a position where she would like my help as she is struggling to find work in her field. I will have to give this some thought.

I'll try and check in from time to time. Happy AF Wednesday, everybody!

Marvelous, Magnificent March - Week 5

Glad to hear everyone is well and we do seem to be finishing March on a high note and very positive, what a supportive and powerful group. I am planning an early night tonight with a book as I have another very busy day tomorrow, but it's great that we are nearly at the weekend once more.

Papmom I was at a talk given by a sleep expert and he mentioned RLS so I spoke to him afterwards and he said that (in his opinion) it has nothing to do with sugar and that although often genetic it is primarily due to a dopamine imbalance and a zinc deficincy. He said that medication would control the lack of dopamine which I assume you are on but you should also check out if you have a zinc deficiency. You may well know all this but I thought I'd pass it on - it's not often you get to speak to an actual expert. He did put my mind at rest on my sleep too so I'm glad I went.

I hope to get some time soon to reply to all of you but I'm just busy, busy, busy at the moment.

Lav - love the picture of your fine little feathered friends!

Dew - I'm with you - hope to get a little reading in (just started a new Sandra Brown book), then my fav show Modern Family at 9:00 and bed by 9:30. Ahhh - such an interesting life I have

Rusty - what is it you can do to help your friend? Bet she was pleasantly surprised to hear how well you are doing.

Sooty - your casserole sounds very interesting!

Papmom - just wondering if you've ever tried the OTC products for RLS. Hubby has it so I bought something but he won't take it

Hard to believe that it's the end of the month already! We were just coming up with names for March!
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I just shared this link on the Daily thread but some may be interested in this teleseries starting next week. Dr Sue Morter is a good speaker & I love her Energy Moments emails

Papmom - the rain has started here. Jolie & I will be getting all rain, most likely John will too. But as the storm heads north it will be producing snow. I really hope you don't see too much. What a bummer for April 1 huh??

I hope Sooty found her limas

My daughter just told me that Lily slept last night from 11 pm to 6 am this morning - not bad at all for a 4 1/2 week old baby

Hope everyone has a good night!

Marvelous, Magnificent March - Week 5

                          Hi Everyone!!
It was agility nite tonite and I stayed late to talk to a couple of the more experienced people. Great tips but man it's late now!! Had a bowl of yogurt with a container of the new Dole apple crisp delight and some almonds. Did pretty well the rest of the day too. Jusy saying no to outright sugar like cake and cookies for now.

Dew-how sweet of you to think of me and take the time to speak with the sleep expert!! Wow! Good to know sugar isn't the cuprit but interesting to hear about zinc. I've heard about the low iron connection and low dopamine but not the zinc. I am on Mirapex for almost a year now and it does work. I'm always worried about the tolerance increase that can happen tho. My iron is fine-no out of normal levels but it probably can't hurt to take a zinc supplement? None of my research has mentioned zinc- I wonder where he's getting that info from?

Jolie-missing Modern Family right now but really wanted to stop in here before bed. I haven't been able to find out anything about OTC RLS meds. Which one did you get your hubby?

Rusty-very interesting about your acquaintane. I hope you can help her even tho she kind of turned her back on you 5 years ago. I don't think you can go wrong with helping her out in some way.

Lav-heard a quick flyby on a news commercial-not sure if he said snow at 4:30am Thursday or he'd be back on Thursday at 4:30 PM to talk about it!! :H Defo won't stay awake long enough for the 11pm news. I guess if I wake up to the white stuff tomorrow morning so be it.

Rustop-I'm definitely not doing the salty, carb snacking I used to do when drinking but subbed in the sugar. I do like the new WW program but as always I've never been a journaler and if I don't journal, I don't lose. Feck.

Chill-how did the experiment go? Glad to know I'm not the only one who loses it at nite!!

Sooty-hope the rain has let up. Did you find the beans?

Star-did your house warm up this afternoon? You made me cold just reading your post!! Brrr!!!

OK, gotta pop on over to the daily thread and then feed the pups/kits and off to bed!! I'm exhausted!!

Papmom I'm sorry but I gave you the wrong info re the RLS it was iron and not zinc (the zinc was in relation to a question someone else asked re RLS). I went back to my notes and the two main causes were dopamine and iron. I must have been more tired than I thought last night, apologies and hope I haven't sent you off on a wild goose chase!

Good morning on this last day of March!!

Somebody decide on an April name as I will probably be the first one up, and don't want to made the decision, it wouldn't be fair.

Rusty, good to hear from you. I would think if this person is a drug counselor there would be jobs at hospitals, community health centers, etc. Sounds like an odd encounter.

My house warmed up and the painting is completed. It looks so warm and inviting, I am happy we had this done. Last night after work we worked to get most of our stuff put back, and it was good to be back to normal.

This weekend I just want to stay home, but on Saturday have plans to meet a friend an hour away and then dinner with a couple. They will be drinking, socially, not to get drunk, and at this point, I am not even caring about it. My focus is the company and the food, in that order. Ha.

Have a productive, peaceful Thursday, AF.
