Hi Millie............yum! Primerib and cranberry cheesecake...........I think I may change my mind!

We had neighbors who were from Rinelander (sp) MN. Their last Christmas card to us was them skating and falling on their frozen pond.

They taught tennis for years here at a Jr. college and then retired back home to MN and spend part of the year in Fl.

Tough life , wasn't it!!

I love having a victorian tree, so I've collected ornaments over the years. Color theme is silver, gold, and mauve.

Yes to both. Can't skate as well as I used to though!

We stayed with an Uncle one year, age about 8, and at about 11 o'clock on Christmas Eve my brother and sisters and cousins were wakened by sleigh-bells. It was a magical, snowy night. We didn't see Santa, but I'll never forget it.

Another time we travelled, I was sent to get somehing from a suitcase and opened the wrong one. It was full of presents. I never told anyone. I was 37 at the time.......hee, hee!

No, but very early on Christmas Day, after midnight Mass

Love this post!
Hey, this might be inappropriate and if it is, gently send me to my kitty box.
I manage businesses for a living.
I am Jewish, and don't know how to give a Christmas Party.
One of my employers, wants me to put on a Christmas Party at his home for 10 of his employees.
I know I can get it catered for food, but what the heck do you do at a Christmas Party?
Do you play games etc.??
These are professional people so it has to be "nice".
All I can think of is Musical Chairs.
I was wondering if I should wrap up some gifts and give them out randomly, pull numbers out of hat?
Please advise or tell me to shut up.

Hi Mona:

We have a traditional White Elephant gift openeing in our family this is fun and funny.

Ask everyone to bring a wrapped gift from home. Something they no longer want. The more awful the better.

Put all gifts on a table. No "To" or "From" labels

We start with the eldest and to go to the youngest, they choose a gift and open it. When the next person opens their chosen gift, they can either keep it or trade with the person or any of the people that opened a gift prior to them. To be fair, we let the eldest have their pick from everyone at the end.

I ended up with an hideous ceramic horney toad one year, he looks cute in the garden though.

It depends, Mona..........

Some "nice" parties are just food music(Christmas) CDS will do, and lots of mingling and chit-chat!

One of my personal favorite things to do at a party is a game we play (just friends or family although some are very professional!) it's called "Dirty Santa"...Hold on now.........it's FUN!

Everyone brings a wrapped gift....price limit about $30. or so....or you could do a "white elephant" gift...something usually inexpensive and funny....like a local collage toilet seat or a dancing raindeer.
Anyway we play "takeaway"...everyone draws a number and you start with number 1...He-she gets to choose a "gift" from the pile...then number 2 can choose a new gift or take the one from number one person and so it goes...until the last number person gets to choose the last new gift or take one away. If they takeaway, then that person get to takeaway..usually the takeaway limit is three "takes" and the gift is safe...It is usually over before all three takes are used up as everyone likes their gift or thinks its funny.
I should say this is not fun for kids as they don't like to give up their gifts!

This is probably way too much information for you, but you asked!

Mona, Shut up!!! Kidding. You said to please advise or tell you to.....oh never mind.

The white elephant is always a hit, but I am wondering is this more of a hoity-toity crowd? If so, I would recommend nice food, good wine, lots of Christmas music and decorations. If it is at someone elses house I am assuming the house will already be decorated? And for such a small group, if you do not have them bring something for a white elephant exchange, you could buy a nice little ornament or something like that and give that to everyone as a party favor. Sometimes simple is the nicest. They might not be a games kind of crowd.

Musical chairs has me laughing my butt off!!! Don't recall the last Christmas party I attended where we played that. But you know what, I am going to a party tonight so I am going to organize it and explain that "my Jewish friend from the quit drinking site wants to know if this would be a good idea for us here Christians." LOL. Good luck. Don't get stressed.

Hey Mona- You really can't go wrong with White Elephant for something to do. Although the musical chairs kinda made me chuckle too. There really aren't any traditional Christmas games.
One thing that might be nice is to have Wassil steeping - It smells wonderful - smells like Christmas.
Giving ornaments to guests is a great idea too. The last Christmas party I went to (my boss) they served
sushi......I would not recommend doing that.
