Moving thru May - Week 1

    Mr. G!

Sorry....cross post! What are the positive changes in your life? Today is POETS Day? Wow, didn't know. I'll try to compose a poem for you and then I'll PM it to you. It might be too racy for the people here.

Hi Jolie! I agree-I am afraid of motorcycles, too. My brother has 4. It's his favorite hobby, one my mom and I wish he would ditch. He lives in Wyoming and he was t-boned by an elk while riding his bike...broke my brother's leg. Hasn't stopped him. Good for you for going to the shower and being AF!

Lav-I know why your hens are not laying eggs. You have been using FOWL language!!!:H:H

      Hi Jollie!

Rusty, ongoing positive changes here, but what i meant in the above post, was the journey's that are being undertaken by many folks on this thread.

POETS day translates as....Piss Off Early Tomorrow's Saturday.

Have a great day everyone. Catch you later.

          Quick checkin Movers!

Star-Congratulations on reaching your last day with your sanity and dignity intact! Sounds like you really took control yesterday. :goodjob:. I hope today is even more peaceful and that you will walk out of there today with your head held hi and a lightness in your step.

Chill-great job on the unpacking! It will all fall into place. You will all of a sudden start to see creative organization solutions and you'll be giddy with accomplishment! Yes, please let us know how elle is doing and if you two have found a favorite path to walk yet!

Cass-hugs to you as you countdown to your leave date. I too know how wrenching it can be to leave a job you have really liked and been successful in. However, you have a whole new life to start over here and a lot of us will be even closer to you! I know you are the type of person who makes friends easily and fits right in no matter where you are!

Dew-I know you've left now but just wanted to say Have Fun! on your meditation retreat! Can't wait to hear all about it!!

Rusty-good luck with the continued last minute studying. We'll be rooting for you!!

Jolie-have fun at the shower. Yes, it is very freeing not to have that thought of "I must get out of here so I can drink" hangin over your head at functions. I think you will leave there and wonder why you weren't AF long before this as life is so much more fun now isn't it??

Rustop-I have to say the way they do exams over there is so different then over here. We'd have rioting in the streets if our students had to wait 3 months for results :H !! The youth are all about instant gratification over here!!

Lav-what did you do to piss the girls off so they are not laying eggs?? Fowl Language indeed!! :H Glad you had a nice visit with DIL and Lily yesterday!! and EB right?

shout out to mylife, newgrange, mr. g, John and anyone else lurking. gotta run or i'll be late. don't want to be late as I may be at this job for the rest of my life!! 2 of my references were called for Job #1 on Tues. My 3rd ref wasn't available when the call came in and now she can't get a hold of my potential new boss! calls go directly to VM and she hasn't called back! Very odd! Job number 2 hasn't called at all. Nothing, nada. zilch. It's been a week and I thougt they were desperate to get someone in place! I guess not desperate enough :upset:. Its all in my HPs hands now. I've done all I can and must make peace with whatever happens.

No, alas, a fairly quiet b'day for me. But we went out to lunch during work and had a nice little celebration, so not much gossip there.

Good morning & Happy POET'S day everyone

Star, I'm very happy for you today - go kick ass lady :H

Rusty, a motorcyle accident nearly tool the life of a co-worker years ago. He ended up paralyzed from the waist down with horrible injuries. A helmet may protect your head but not your neck & spinal cord. That was the end of his nursing career! We had him for a month or more on our Rehab unit ~ taking care of him was so hard, left us all in tears every day.:upset:
                Have a good day today

Greetings Chill, Rustop, Sooty, G & anyone else on the other side of the Atlantic or Pacific!

Jolie, enjoy your bridal shower in an AF way

Looking forward to having my daughter, DIL & all 3 grandkids here for dinner tonight.
Hope it doesn't rain because I want to grill some burgers - yum!

Wishing everyone a great AF Friday!

Moving thru May - Week 1

Hello all - POETS day, love it!

Chill - it's a little like Xmas, opening everything up, right? I wish I could be with you, I love helping people settle in -- when I help downsizing clients, we often set up a 'rotating' system of their favorite things, so there is plenty of calm space around them, but they still enjoy their objects...Good luck with the car.

Cass - I agree, tears are good, and necessary. Be gentle with yourself.

Star - you really are a Star.

Dew - I feel more peaceful already, thanks for including us in your meditations. I'll try to send it right back at you --

Rusty - a balanced approach to studying, good for you. Just like a move, the best thing is that it will soon be over - take care, friend.

Hello to all that I missed, wishing you a peaceful day and evening --

                    Evening my Movers

The energy of the people on this thread is awe inspiring we really are quite a bunch

Another productive day for me and the apartment is looking more in order although doesn't yet feel remotely like home. It is only 200 metres from the seafront and Elle and I had a long walk on the promanade, sadly no dogs are allowed on the beach from May till sept. Its my 1st weekend here and I realize I don't know anyone, its a small town and so far most people look retired so I'm going to have to put some thought into how I meet people my age.

Rustop i missed half the chopra meditations because I don't have internet yet and they don't play on my phone. I'm looking forward to getting back online next week.

Moving thru May - Week 1

I'm Free....Yay....Yesterday I left work with my, "head held hi and a lightness in your step." It was a great day, kindness all around, wrapping up and even the evil supervisor and I had decent goodbyes. It is just better that way. I love closure and value kindness. So, onward and upward. I did get a bad intense craving for a martini on the drive home. I thought about it and did the HALT check in. I decided I was hungry and stopped for an ice cream cone. How's that for a healthier solution!! Sitting outside, eating a cone, reading a card with nice little notes from my fellow workers. I felt infinitely better and the moment passed. I guess it was the strong emotions associated with leaving, saying goodbyes, etc. that set me up to crave. In the past I would possibly drink if something bothered me, reasoning that it would relieve stress. Later we went out for Mexican food, and it was good but now I am done with the selfindulgence. Today, exercise and cleaning, laundry and getting home life in order. Then, relaxing. How lovely.

Rusty, it is interesting on our friend's responses to us not drinking. It does get easier though. My friend said to me, as long as you don't ask me not to drink. What? When did I even come close to that. I didn't. It was her response. Isn't that strange? Is the warmer weather a trigger for you? It is for me. Hey, I think that it was a good thing you took the day off from studying. Having gone through similar experiences on three different occasions, I know that it is the long term, over time knowledge that will help you pass. In addition, knowing how to take tests. Really, you have to be a good test taker, and I am sure you are. Having said that, it IS nerve wracking. So, take good care of yourself and know we are here for support.

Chill, sounds like you are adjusting and I know it takes time to feel at home. :l

To all, have a lovely Saturday, AF.

                        Good Morning!

Star-Congratulations on saying no to a martini on the way home last night. I don't know if I would have been that strong because it would have been a perfect time to celebrate. I'm glad that your co-workers were decent and you are free from the evil supervisor. I wonder if some of your co-workers will follow your lead and look for new positions. Thank you for all your positive vibes regarding my exam. I really appreciate it. I'm studying now....I do my best studying at Rusty O'Clock. I'm not surprised about your friend's reaction at all....this is happened to me, too, and I think it's a common reaction. You're a Star to me, always.:l

I ran into that acquaintance at the gym yesterday....the one who distanced herself when my drinking was at its peak. We politely smiled at each other, and you know, that's ok. Not everyone is going to think I'm wonderful!:H I'm just surprised that after 5 years of sobriety, she wasn't secure enough in her own sobriety to be around someone drinking, AND that she would pursue a career as an alcohol counselor/therapist if she were still that unsure of herself. She did ask me yesterday if I would be able to provide her with a job opportunity and I gently told her, "no, we can't offer you anything." She seemed disappointed but I can't do anything about it.

Ok, back to studying. BORE BORE BORE....insert Audrey Hepburn's voice in here from "On Golden Pond."

                        I'll be back later!

Star-I realize now I didn't answer your question about the warmer being a trigger for me? OH YES! I live in a lovely lakefront resort community dotted by lovely restaurants on the waterfront. I had my favorite haunts when my drinking was not a problem...and then it was. Like you, I use HALT to fight off the triggers. My next big challenge to be AF it going to be my niece's wedding in 5 weeks. We'll see. ODAT, right?

hey all - warmer weather is white wine, rose with ice and sol with lime for me - cold weather white wine and beer.

I guess I can always find a suitable alcoholic drink!

I am so happy right now - need to do some of the house cleaning tomorrow - gym tomorrow and cleaning/lunch out then visiting friend in eve - driving so no alcohol!Though I may walk - don't want to cycle nowhere safe to lock up bike.Trying to maximise my daily exercise as much as I can.

                                Hi everyone

Just a quick check in as am rushing about the place. Hope you found your inspiration Lav and are having a nice Saturday. You too Star and Chill after a stressful week. Well done Star on stopping for an icecream not a martini.

Good luck with the study Rusty. Still brings back memories when I see my daughter hard at it. The puppet was only part of her art. She still has to do still life and life drawing and then art history will be done the same time as her other written exams in June. They get the oral and art exams done in May and then the written in June. I guess 2 months is a long time to wait for the results, never thought about it before. She has been accepted into the London universities she applied to provided she gets the results she needs and she has also applied here. Lots of decisions to be made.

Hubby gone fishing so having a quite enough week-end, catching up on stuff. Hi to everyone I have not mentioned and enjoy your week-end.
