    AF daily Tuesday 24th May

    :wd: :yay: :band2:

    CONGRATULATIONS IC!!

The first 30 days are soooo important! you really feel a sense of accomplishment and you start to realize that AF is not so bad and maybe, just maybe you can do this!! You start to replace the wine or beer or whatever with other activities and you start to identify your triggers.
I hope you continue with this new healthy life style and please keep posting and reading!!

I'm not a huge Wayne Dywer fan but I am listening to one of his books on tape from 1995. I'm finding it a little hard to swallow with the born again type preaching but there's still a lot that he says that makes some sense and could be helpful. Here's one that I really like:

He's talking about how he is just like everyone else with the same problems with family, life, addiction etc:
"I'm like a camel-you know what a camel is don't you? It's an animal with 2 humps that starts the day kneeling, end's the day kneeling and can go 24 hours without a drink."

And here's a couple of quotes from Michael J. Fox who turns 50 next month and is still going strong despite what some see as a horrible disease and disability. He was interviewed in Good Housekeeping mag this month:

"...Tracy's big challenge is not having a Parkinson's patient for a husband. It's having me for a husband. I happen to be a Parkinson's patient....Whatever the situation, take it for what it is. You don't have to make it worse or better than it is. It just is what it is. Always deal with the honesty, the truth of what something is, and then you've got all kinds of choices."

"There's a rule in acting called 'Don't play the result'."

I especially like the last quote. How many times do we play the result in our lives? Even if we know without a doubt what the outcome will be in any given situation, don't live like the outcome. We have choices about what we can do and how we can live until the result gets here. And truthfully, isn't there only one of our lives? We just don't know when that result will get here.

    End of deep thoughts.

            AF daily Tuesday 24th May

            Good Morning All.

Big Congratulations to you Inchy! 30 days is a huge milestone.

Papmom. Great quote from MJF, especially "don't play the result." I'm going to write that one down. How goes the job hunt?

Jenny, Good to see you hear. Before you know it, you'll be at 30 days too.

Greenie. Seriously dislike that creepy neighbor comment although I bet you do look hot on your bicycle.

DG, So true that the physical and mental changes are huge once your body is free of alcohol.

Torcher of a workout this morning...Lots of body weight exercises with sprint intervals on the field.

LVT, I forget when you are coming to DC. The weather has been fairly warm with temps in the high 70s to 80s during the day and down to about 65 at night. It is not unusual for it to get super hot for a day or two this time of year (90s). And, there's lots of humidity. Definitely bring a rain coat but you won't need much cold weather clothing; perhaps a light sweater or jacket for overly air conditioned restaraunts.

            Have a good day all.

Very happy to see you succeed! Keep it going

'Don't play the result' is on my mind a LOT these days. I am so stubborn by nature & naturally refuse to let my thinking go there.................aka Lavan-itude

                AF daily Tuesday 24th May

hey all just popping in while my dinner cooks - crazy busy day at work today - but got 3 big pieces of work off the desk and completed.

I am off to the gym after dinner - thought of going straight from work when hungry doesn't work for me - need to drive there anyway, so may as well eat as well.
I need to buy some more fruit/green veg and yogurts for snacks at work - may as well pop in to supermarket on my way there to give dinner longer to settle - quorn chilli enchilada with soy beans and sweetcorn to accompany then papaya and raspberry sauce when I get home from the gym.Only had a nectarine so far today so need to maximise my fruit/veg intake.
Have some old bananas I need to use up to make cake with.

anyway lovely day yesterday - although had too much coffee - felt myself get a bit hyper at friends house and then crash(had to have a lie down!) i need to watch that - I have 3 a day BUT yesterday had 2 large ones(which is really 2 coffees each isn't it).

But happy happy happy - great to be sober and change old patterns of behaviour - would never have goen to gym after dinner or popped out to supermarket - usually pjs then tv in the week. tomorrow friend over for dinner as well so will make an easy chicken recipe.

anyway blah blah - i like that don't play the result too - i have in the past been too focused on the end point - rather than getting there

Its easier to refrain from drinking when you have a cold. It is mainly in my nose and throat. I started the coughs today. Oh boy. I hate being sick, but at least I won't be wanting to go out and drink.

                    Day 4 af
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

                      AF daily Tuesday 24th May

M3, today was an off day for running so I walked. I was thinking as I was walking how much eaiser that was than what you did this morning LOL! (hey - anything that makes me *percieve* my workouts as *easy* is a wonderful thing!)

Lav, I love your lavanitude. I thought of you today on my walk as well. Or more precisely, I thought of your chickens. I don't know what they are using as fertilizer at one house I pass everyday, but it sure smells like it could be chicken poop. :H

Kaslo, good luck on your talk tomorrow! Is it in the morning? You will have to let us know if the drunk scientist shows up in time.

Bear, your transformation is such a joy to read about!! I am so glad you are here sharing it with us.

Drifty!!! Congrats on Day 4. Sorry to hear about the cold!!! I hope it passes quickly.

After my walk I spent most of the afternoon putting more plants and flowers in pots. Some of this stuff has been sitting out there for way over a week waiting to be planted....so not in the best shape. Oh well.

Hope the rest of you fABbies are having a stellar day.

                        AF daily Tuesday 24th May

Hello guys. . .looks like all are doing well. . .cept Drifty with her cold, hope thats resolves itself soon!

Well my son failed the 6th grade, we just found out this afternoon. I feel so bad for him! I am also upset with myself, as a fixer I wish I could have fixed it. I wanted to stop for vodka but stopped for chocolate covered pretzels instead with a side of L-Glut and just drove home. We'll get through this, and will prob be better for it. I told him, like we tell ourselves here, as long as you never stop trying you can't fail, no use in beating yourself up, just make a plan and figure out what you can do different next time to make it different next time.

So my plan for this weekend is to make a journey thread with all of my posts from here that show struggle and progress and all the good advice I have gotten from people. I can quote or copy and paste so when I struggle or need encouragement it will all be in one place! I think it's a cool idea and I'm so excited to do it!

I'll check back later, hope everyone has a great night!

                          AF daily Tuesday 24th May

                          Good evening folks!

Good luck wishes to Kaslo ~ I am NOT a public speaker myself

DG, believe it or not, chicken poop is no where near as stinky as some other common fertilizers but it sure does the job :H

jenny, hope you feel better soon! Is there any chance of your son catching up in summer school? I really didn't think they kept kids back for an entire year anymore - that seems harsh in this day & age.

My daughter stopped by this afternoon & we took advantage of the few hours of sun & did some weeding in 'our garden', laid down newspaper to prevent new weed growth (like the Amish do aroiund here) Lily sat in a shady area in her infant seat & just watched us
It ended up feeling summerish today - hot & humid.

Hope everyone has a good night!

I had to talk to the PTA once and thought I'd have a nervous breakdown. Just thinking of looking out over a sea of faces makes me cringe!

So here I sit eating my plain organic yogurt with some organic raspberry jam and a handful of almonds mixed in...... and you know..... it just isn't ice cream. No matter how hard I pretend.

Late check-in for garlic dude. had a superb happy day I'm pleased to report

Inchy, you're doing fabulous! nice work shedding those chains.

Papmom, thanks for the deep thoughts. I like some of Dyers works but also take bits and pieces as they 'fit' for me.

Bear, you want a really simple chicken recipe that's good? here you go.

put chicken thighs in a pan and dump in a small jar of green olive. (the whole jar with juice).
put on the lid and simmer on very low for an hour.
that's it. really. and it's very tasty!
the skin doesn't come out crispy so you'll want to discard that, but it doesn't get much easier.

Greeneyes, I haven't had ice cream in about 7 months. I eat plain organic 'real' yogurt and really like it now. your body loves you for your wise decisions!

Jenny, sounds like a productive idea. sorry to hear of school drama.

                              ok, sleepy time.
