    AF Daily Wednesday 20/7

    Morning All,
OK one of the downsides of my new healthy eating and exercise routine is waking up at 6 am. Yikes. It makes the day suddenly very long. Quite a change to my recent past.
    DG -you said:
Treya, it's so good to hear that you are feeling positive as you detox from AL. If you ever feel like you are forgetting why you don't want to drink, just come here and ask. You will get the earful (eye full?) of a reminder that we all need once in awhile!
Believe me I've no intention of getting ahead of myself. :l
I know exactly what is required here and I KNOW I'll be struggling and needing help from time to time which is why I'm here. So feel free to advise.

For example I'm going out for dinner on Monday night and not looking forward to being sober. I have always associated food and wine and it's going to be a big challenge. Comments welcome from anyone on how to handle it
xx Have a great day folks

fABbies! Top o' the morning. Or whatever time it is. Hey - are Marshy and XNGF MOVING to Greece? Is there no internet in Greece?

Treya, thanks for kicking things off today!!!! I hope my remark did not sound like it was personally directed to YOU. I was speaking more of what I know *I* need from time to time, and offering that to you as well. 6AM? I WISH I could sleep until 6AM!!

I've actually been struggling a bit with sleep lately. Not sure what is up. Valerian root really helps, but doesn't keep me asleep long enough to suit me. At any rate, I've been up since 3:30 today. I usually get up at 4:30.

LVT - thanks for the Sevin suggestion! I found some in the garage and doused this plant. It's on my porch - not in my food garden. Except now I'm thinking I probably put the bees at risk. Will have to see if Mr. D will get rid of the whole thing this morning. Also, the BIG worm in my avatar was nowhere to be seen. I hope he is still nearby and gets a taste of Sevin.

Det - that was an amazing picture! I love your "mirror" story too. Amen. If I end up going to a business thing tonight, I'm sure I will have the opportunity to notice similar mirror images! They probably won't be as "classy" to start with though. :H

P3 - With 10 colleges near you, I KNOW the perfect job is out there somewhere!! POSITIVE VIBES!!

Doglvr - good for you on your progress staying AF day by day. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Always have an early exit strategy planned out in advance, OK? Use it if you need it.

Hello to any fabbies I missed yesterday!

Well, lots to do today. I'm heading out to AA to make sure my head is on straight for the day. And see my friends.

One thing is for sure...no AL is gonna cross these lips today!

        Good morning Abbers,

Got my workout done early this morning because the heat wave has arrived.

DG, Since it is a Tomato Horn Worm, I vote for the name "Horny." :H Best to pluck those darn things off and discard them if you see it again.

It is very exciting to have some folks new to sobriety here...Treya, Dglvr, etc. :goodjob:

Getting ready to send my older daughter off to camp in Western NC. We will drive down on Friday and stay overnight. I drop her off on Saturday and then drive back--9 hours each way!!! We have both been having nightmares about the other dying while away. Don't need Freud to interpret that one!!! I know it will be a great learning experience for both of us and I hope she comes back feeling self-confident and strong.

Lav, my sister-in-law just had a hip replacement. She did really well but it is a very long recovery period as you know. Certainly not something you can do on your own!!

P3. Hope you hear soon about your job pronto. I used to do career counseling and many folks would say exactly what you did, "It's like dating, i.e., having to put yourself out there and face potential rejection." I also gained an appreciation for those who are doing the hiring. Often times, they face many obstacles to making a job offer (e.g., going through chain of command, having to interview serveral candidates, changes in priorities, job freezes, etc.). All I know is that anyone would be lucky to have you!!!

        Later...

Good morning Fabsters. I tried to post last night to no avail.

Cross post with Mof3, i greatly admire your dedication to fitness. I also agree about hand disposal, its very easy (of hornworms that is). See below...

Treya thanks for starting us up. At some point (I am 6 months free now) I started looking FORWARD to being AF at dinners out. I no longer even want to pair wine with food, Deters posting yesterday about watching some well dressed dude transition from sipping connoisseur to grimmly slugging it down. That pretty much sums it up for me. In the period of quitting though, its very simple, I HAD to find AF drinks I really loved, raspberry spritzer being one, to replace the wine. Now I love all the alternative drinks and variety I can pair with food, instead of the same old sour poison thats shoved at us by the wine industry and tarted up like its the elixer for the discerning and hip foodie. Thats ok for non AL people but for us here, its poisonous.

DG loved the pix off your deck, that looks lovely. Sevin is really hard on other insects. Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) is a natural pesticide and works very well. However Tomato hornworms are easy to spot, and simply crushing the bastards works too (blech). Perhaps a chore for Mr Doggy.

Deter, loved your description. And your sedimentary rock shot.

And Lav, I have had two total hip replacements, the right in March of 2007 and the left in March of 2009. It is major surgery but it has a huge success rate. I simply would not be out here packing around 25 pounds of gear on rough terrain without them. If you need anything more in the way of info there is a website called Totally Hip, and a Facebook page for them as well. Very useful group, helped me through it.

I am afraid my memory bank is now overdrawn. And even though its not even 5 AM yet, I hafta get outta the sack and process samples to ship down south, as today is my last day in Fort Nelson, now I fly to the Yukon. I dont mind admitting I am terrified of flying in a small fixed wing aircraft into the Liard Mountain Range in rainy weather, which is forcast for today. But I have to go to look at some diseased trees around a stinky old gasplant. The bonus is the weather is supposed to improve, and the scenery is astonishingly beautiful.

          Love to you all.

              Hello friends,

I too, need to get out and get my work done before the heat kicks in for another day. Kaslo--where does one find the BT? And yes, picking the worms off is best, but I don't think it will hurt the bees or other insects unless they come in contact with the Sevin-correct?
              I hope not!!!

I can think of nothing interesting to add this morning. Hello to the new additions to monthly ab's!!!:welcome:

The men were having a cold beer after trap shooting practice last night--I had a little twinge of wish I could join them. But I squelched that thought with a snickers cyclone.

Gotta run! Have a great day all!:h

                I dont WANNA process samples.:upset:

So yeah, BT should be in the pesticide section of the garden department of Walmart or a local nursery thats well stocked. Its trade names are Acrobe, Bactospeine... But its commonly just called Bacillus thuringiensis.

Treya, I sent you a PM just now in response to your message to me. You sound like a mahvalous person, with a solid committment to being AF. Way to go!!!

                  Good morning Abbers!

Another night of sweaty tossing & turning! 15 years of this BS is more than enough, honestly. My hormones will never settle down - I'm screwed :H
In addition to the HRT, I have followed every other suggestion made by my NP (quit smoking, drinking, eliminated white pasta, spicey foods, etc) but I still heat up every night & it's not the good kind of heat if you know what I mean :H

Treya, keep listening to the others here ~ they helped me more than I can say

DG, I second M3's suggestion of naming your bug 'Horny'!!!

Greetings LVT, you prarie woman you

Kaslo, I spent a long nursing career taking care of post-op total hip & knee replacement patients so I know the deal. AND I also know that YB has never had any kind of surgery & has little to no pain tolerance. As a matter of fact he's always been rather harsh (verbally, judgmentally) of others dealing with similar situations. This coul be a case of karma for him......

I have lots to do myself today & hope the AC keeps me from melting down. Heat index could be as high as 110 thru Friday

                  Have a good day all!

Well Lav you know then. I always find myself feeling a bit smug when people with no tolerance for pain, but having a bit of a 'tude about people in pain, find themselves in a month two six weeks of discomfort. They can find themselves starting with some killer pain post op if they are not smart about it, then a gruelling experience working at recovery. Its hard not to give them a ghost of an evil smile, isnt it? And they are such a box of farts about it too. Dont you think? I am relatively new to the site here, so I am not really sure if YB lives near you and still comes by, or if you are in the same household, but you do know how much post op care a hip patient often needs (not all though, everyone seems to have a different post scenario, with lots of variation depending on condition going in). So yeah, if the recommendation is THR, as you know there are all kinds of options now, and its not as bad as it was even 5 years ago. My recovery in time 2 was half of time 1 for a variety of reasons.

BY THE WAY my samples are DONE and sent and now I can write some stuff before the plane to the Yukon.

Kaslo, the iron-hipped (ceramic actually). Ok; Kaslo the pottery-hipped.

                      Morning abbers!

Holy crap, even in Canada it's boiling! Today is going to be 38degrees which is like I don't know mid 90's I think? And with the humidity even worse. Lots of water today. Of course my daughter wants to stay at the pool all day and I'm like, um, I don't think that's the best idea kiddo. We'll see what happens.
I did my daily meditation and feel good albeit a bit tired. Poor Boo is going to have to stay inside in the air conditioning most of the day, too hot for him out here.

                      Have a fab day guys!

                      Love and hugs,

                        Hi fabbies! I'm roasting today.

I saw our new rental dump - oops I mean investment property for the first time today. Oh my. "Fixer upper" doesn't begin to tell the story! I took a picture of the bedroom where the urban campers had a bonfire. Will post that later.

Anyway, for the price it's a good deal. My life is going to change a lot in the coming month or two. I'm bracing myself for it.

Horny is an awesome name and it's official!!! I don't know where he was so he may still be out there causing trouble. I need to closely inspect my real garden but it's too damn hot today. 100degrees according to the guage in my truck.

OMG. Horny's friends are all over my garden. I pulled about 30 of them off of my tomato plants. :upset: They are so hard to see - I'm sure I did not get them all. It's so hot out there I'm about to the point of just saying F-it. There is always next year for tomatoes. I'm not going to have much time to deal with this anyway with the house closing on Friday, and all the leg work to do tomorrow getting the money wire transfered, etc.

                          Oh well.

At least I'm not living in the old days on the prairie with no grocery stores.

YOWZA!! It must be hot everywhere! But you won't hear me complaining about it. I might not be out in it all day long, but no bitching about the heat here. Winter will be here soon enough and I hate, hate hate the cold!

You would not believe the amount of mechanicing (prolly not a word-but neither is prolly):H lately! Last week it was the muffler and battery cable. This week it was the spark plug, then the belt on the mower deck, repaired the other mower deck, and since the belt was the wrong size and I had to reorder, I decided to change the oil. It was a challenge, everything on the mower is a challenge, but I did it (with a little help from my new hired teenager)so I decided to change the oil in the other 2 mowers. Even though I am prairie woman, I dislike getting my hands dirty or greasy--yuck! But the feeling of accomplishment were awesome--I hope my teenage friend disregarded the @#$#$% that accidentally slipped out.:H

DG--my brother has purchased a couple of fixer uppers and then asked his wife to help him. I think it is a ton of work, but apparently there is money to be made, because otherwise my brother wouldn't do this and his wife would not go along with it. Maybe Mr DG will find some more valuable treasures he can sell on EBay!

I feel bad, my posts don't always include the subject of AL. But you know, it has taken me awhile to get to the point where thoughts of it weren't always right there all the time. I guess it is a good sign. And the frustration with DH and his drinking is what it is.

I'm going to go check my garden.verheated::bat

I rather have the heat then the cold myself. I hate winter (Christmas time its ok, but after that, I want my spring/summer weather back).
