    AF Daily - Monday

Such a windy cold day today. Got loads of cleaning done, but really need to gather up all the wet snowy clothes from our outing today. That means going down to my car. Brrrrr. And it's not even winter yet. I'm really not a weather wimp. Just not ready for it, )

        :egad:

That is a very nasty, crude, 4-letter word! (Well, 5 letters in this case). Seriously, did you already get the white stuff?

*shudder* Now I REALLY wanna head back to bed.

Just in case any of you admire my line of work, I just got yelled at for an hour (on my time, and cant bill for it) by a geologist in charge of a project about the removal of a heavily regulated contaminant from areas where they could seriously harm fragile resources. The guys has no idea how to do this work, and wants me to take the blame for a complete failure on his part to inform clients or provide direction. Oh, and my work was too carefully done and detailed, he just wanted a sketch on a piece of paper to justify 0.5M worth of work.

Does anyone know how to get a work visa scientist deported from Canada? Im serious. The guy is dangerous.

Kaslo, some people are just idiots & you can do a thing about them. Maybe you should find a way to have him deported :H Send him over here & I turn the chickens loose on him :H

            NO snow yet Sunni.....not yet

Chief, what you went through with your FIL is tough. I went through it with both my parents & FIL too. Hospice is a wonderful service allowing terminal patients to remain at home but it is rough on the family.

DG, I just looked up this article after responding to the newbies post about an Antabuse implant - I had never heard of it before.

Read about the woman who's baby is missing and she finally confessed to being drunk when it happened. Oh man..... THERE'S a rock bottom.

Kaz what a FH. I don't know how you made it an hour without bitchslapping him upside his head. (greenie! what's gotten into you?)

Kas ? We call this action ?Blamestorming?. This is a method whereby rather than solve the problem, team members seek to see who takes the heat for the given issue. I?d prescribe a good ol? fashioned ass kicking.

Lav ? While this is the first I have heard of the AB implant, what they are offering is something that has been around for a while. It is called medical tourism. These clinics set up in countries that have little or no control over the medical community and offer treatments not available in the US (or other more established countries). One of the most popular treatments I have heard of are types of weight reduction. The clinic uses a travel service that sets up a pretty posh ?vacation?. First class flights, 5 star hotel for you to recuperate in. A few days before the treatment to have some fun?. It sounds really cool until you realize that what you are getting could go very wrong and you would be powerless to do anything about it.

As far as the AB implant ? that would worry me as well. I take AB. I think it is a miracle drug and have no side effects whatsoever. However, should something come up where I need to stop for a few days (example, a medical treatment in which AB could cause an issue) then I can just stop taking it. Another thought. Let?s just say I got careless and said ?screw it ? I?m gonna drink?. I get violently sick. I stay in bed for a few days then start over. Not a pretty picture. However, if you have this crap implanted and have a lapse, not only do you get sick, but you keep getting the AB dose while you are trying to get over the issue. Maybe that is part of the physiological use of the drug ? but that is a little over the top for me.

Another thought on the AB side. For me, my cravings only hit in the evening. Every morning I was (and still am) dedicated to sobriety. So that is when I take my AB. Having to have it surgically implanted doesn?t make a lot of sense if you have a period of committed time each day. I think that if you have no spans of time where your are committed enough to take the AB tablet, then you may have a larger issue to address before this kind of treatment. Just my two cents. Anyway, that article is scary. Maybe I can do some medical tourism and get some 6-pack abs so I can be more of a stud than my pudgy self is today! I?ve been thinking about a new career in the porn industry if I can just get an acting job for a middle age, pudgy, gray haired stud.

Seriously though - that implant would be worrisome........
I can't imagine a US Doc wanting to deal with it, removing it in a medical emergency or anything else.....

OK. So first to address the porn stud issue. I was watching men's gymnastics apparatus finals this weekend, and there was a guy who had a mustache and sideburns who I SWEAR was a 70's porn star. All he needed was some of the signature sleezy music and we woulda been RIGHT THERE!!! IJM, the important issue here is not your age (29) or the color of your hair. Do you have a proper mustache and pork chop side burns????

True story. Back in the days before I was 29, we worked for a looooong time to sell a big computer training project to a very large food company whose name starts with "K." There was a middle manager blocking the way even though we had all kinds of executive support, etc. I called a head hunter friend of mine and we got her another job. Seriously. Is that a possibility? :H

I sure would not want an illegal implant. :egad: I think a big red flag with this scenario might be the broader issue of a more complete treatment plan (whether self designed or with the help of a professional). I think some of us ladies (and maybe some men too) who drank in secret are SO ashamed and worried that "someone will find out" that we really don't address the whole problem. Antabuse or any of the other meds are a tool to help address one thing - stopping the drinking. IMO, there are usually quite a number of other issues to address and a belief that we can put on a perfect face to the world while we privately wallow in our shame is just one of them. I think sometimes one specific tool is viewed as a panacea solution when it's not.

mtnmomma - :welcome:!!!! SNOW???? :egad: Where do you live?

                      Greenie - rock bottom indeed.

Hey Pro Fabonos. Lav, IJM, Greenie and DG, you guys are quite the tag team! Mienen Gott, I would love to bitchslap the guy but hes 350 kms away. Whats with that? And yes it IS a case of Blamestorming. As opposed to Brainstorming. In which case the storm would have been more like slight breeze. I have no power in this instance, as usual, I am just the unwashed contracting scientist.

What I have hated most about this episode is this project manager refuses to admit he screwed up, continuously backtracks and lies about what he clearly said and did or didnt do, and even with witnesses, is glossing over the crap, and pointing various guns at me. He's put more work into that then his actual JOB.

The only thing from keeping me quiet is the fact that a very fine, young and talented biologist was involved and I dont want her chances to get screwed up, because of this. So I am taking the heat.

But I have documented whats gone on.

I dont get big corporations at all, I am afraid.

IJM, tomorrow is going to be such a BIG DEAL!!! Well done, in advance, and I hope your sons gf realizes how lucky she is to have your help and care. As she is in nursing training? THis will make an excellent nurse out of her.

Thanks you guys, you really are the best.

                          love
