    October Opportunities - week 4

Woke up with swollen eyes again. The doctor I visitied said it was allergies. However, I have been taking benedryl and now eye drops for her. Today my glands are not swollen, but it appears to be domething trading back and forth. I still wonder if it is something in my diet. Lav, I agree, I try to stay away from doctors as they never seem to help. Since my move six years ago, I have not found anyone I have connected to. I do probably need a physical though and have a doctor in mind. THAT is how lousy I feel, that I will consider another doctor.

Papmom, so sorry about your shoulder, that stinks. Hopefully, physical therapy will help.

Rusty, thanks for your kindness. Actually, once I started working, I felt better. I am very happy to have three days off and no big plans except getting my hair done. Just for the record, I avoid home parties. The last one I went to resulted in buying expensive candles I did not need and still have not used. That was about three years ago. I was just invited to another party and did not even respond. I would consider a pampered chef party as they have really awesoome merchandise that lasts forever.

Lav, what the heck is wrong with me? Swollen eyes, then the next day glands that are tender with some congestion. It does sound like allergies, but to what? I am so discouraged. I had to laugh about the baby names. At one time my daughter said she would name her future daughter, get ready, "Queenie." My husband had a fit and said it sounded like a dog's name. Here, queenie, queenie, queenie. She got mad but changed her mind. I think alot of parents are trying to be original, and I just hope they give their kids good solid middle name as an option.

Jolie, good to hear you are keeping busy. I agree that lately work has been a killer. I find that after so many years, I don't need anything new in my home, it is already full. Have you lived in your current home long? I know some people have a knack for decorating and like to renew their digs. My mom was like that and my good friend. She is always on the lookout for new pictures or other decor. Changing it up is fun.

Chill, nothing wrong with lots of books. I am reading a few good ones myself. Nothing like a fire, a good book, and a cup of tea. Can you share a few of the titles? I need some new ideas. Thanks.

Yesterday on the ride home, I was really appreciating the misty gray weather and the super bright color of the leaves. Some of the yellow and orange/red were spectacular. I kind of want to go back and take pictures. Anyone else loving the fall colors?

To all, a great AF Friday.

      Good morning everyone

Sending Papmom and Star lots of healing vibes. Nothing seems right when you are not feeling well.

Rusty - Thanks for the laugh regarding your Mom. I feel parents are doing their children no favour giving them way out names. You cannot beat the classics.

We have some nice autumn colours but nothing like New England. This morning was frosty and sunny, my favourite kind of morning. Just back from a nice walk with the doggies and my friend.

Chill - please share some good book titles. I go to the library a lot but intend to treat myself for my long flight to NY.

Everyone else big hello and have a great AF week-end.

        :groupluv::bday7: RUSTOP!!!
I hope you have a lovely birthday! 50! Black balloons and everything. Also, I agree with you on parents giving their children strange names. The children suffer.

Star-I hope you enjoy your days off.

Papmom-please check in and let us know how you are doing.:l

Lav-ok, I get it now-no cohabitating chicken coops.:H Also, I keep changing my mind about the design on the pillow for my Mom. I will make a decision this weekend, and also decide on the baby blanket for B-b-b-briar.

Yesterday, I got a neck adjustment, and it seems that all the weight training I did last winter might have contributed to my herniated discs. My doctor told me "no weights" just Pilates. So, there it is. She also told me that she told her 31-year-old nephew about MWO and Baclofen. Baclofen helped me stop drinking by attacking my chronic anxiety. She said she was grateful that I told her about this site as she had never heard about it.

I'm off to Chicago for a long day of work....enjoy your days, friends!

          Good morning kids!

Yep, had a frost on the pumpkin last night & the heat is on! Oh well, couldn't hold out forever!

Rustop, wishing you a very HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Not sure if it's today but happy happy anyway! Also wishing you & your daughter safe travels

Star, we apparently develop new allergies as we age - I sure know I've picked up some new ones. We develop new allergies when we move to new locations (in my case it was only 1 county south but into farm country). You mentioned getting your hair done today......are you getting it colored? That can cause allergic reactions as well
Most likely the best thing to do is consult an allergist. Skin testing, etc is a pain but at least you'll know for sure what you are reacting to & avoid it. They will be able to treat you more specifically than your regular doc. Years ago my daughter & I flew from PA to Idaho to visit my brother. We both ended up in his doctor's office with severe allergy problems after a couple of days! Crazy!
I think for now I would get someone to put me on a course of steroids (Prednisone) just to kick the inflammation & allow your body to heal. (Remember, I got my dentist to write for a Medrol pack for my poison ivy a few weeks ago? It worked!)

Rusty, lifting free weights is something I won't get into for fear of wrecking myself
The weight resistance machines at Curves is enough for this grandma. Glad your neck is OK now
Spreading the word of MWO around is a good thing!!!

OK, gotta go to Curves then expecting a visit from Lily & her mother today :yay:
Wishing everyone a great AF Friday!

            Hi everyone,

I emailed Lav last night and thankfully found the thread. Sheesh. I've been gone for about a year, but used to post here regularly. I'll probably bore you all with the details later, but for the moment just raising the white flag and acknowledging my backslide into the abyss of al and hoping to reconnect with the group. Sigh. Feeling quite ashamed, but decided that I would stop lurking and start posting for help.

I'm so glad to see so many familiar faces and new ones...trying to regain my fixture status here. I've been struggling.

            Yours,

Big Friday Hello to all, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RUSTOP!!!! Hope you are coping with all the travel plans, and can celebrate a little...

Hey Lodestar, I remember you well, so sorry you are struggling, but wonderful that you have returned! Be assured you will find inspiration here for your journey. Good to see you!

Rusty, thanks for your posts - the one about Lav's chickens and the baby names was vintage - loved it! Glad to hear that Bac has had some cross-positives for you...for me too; less pain, a little mood elevator, and I only take about 20 m a day. What a help.

Star - honestly, I'm telling you, try the Oil of Oregano and Echinacea. Even if it is allergies, it's a sign that your immune system is struggling - any leg up will help. In fact, lots of people do Echinacea at the change of seasons, when we seem to be most vulnerable. You sound miserable - hope you feel better soon!

Lav - yep, snow last night, and enough to be seen this morning. I can't help it, after so many years in the desert, I enjoyed seeing it (I know, talk to me in March). Last night when it changed over from rain to snow, the dogs needed to go out...I turned on the yard light, opened the door, and my boy dog looked up with the most comical look on his face - "wtf is that stuff falling from the sky?!" First time he's seen snow...

Good wishes for a warm, cozy, AF Friday night.

                Evening everyone,

I haven?t had time to read back and it?s been a very busy week but just wanted to check in with you all, I?ll try and catch up over the weekend. I?m on babysitting duty over the weekend for the grandkids so a busy weekend in front of me but it will be good fun ? they make me laugh! The three of them are arriving early tomorrow morning so I?ll need my sleep tonight. The weather forecast is for a mild weekend so hopefully we can all get into our wellies and do a garden tidy up for the winter. I really need to empty the pots and hanging baskets and as long as the kids have lots of jobs to keep them busy they are usually happy working away.

I can?t believe that this is the last weekend in October ? where oh where has this year gone?? Have a great weekend Octoberites.

                Dewdrop :h
Enjoy today - there will be no other one quite like it....

                  Lode - glad you're back
Just just right in & don't waste another minute worrying about the past. Today is what's important
Great that you're finding success with Bac. Stick around now

Cyn, I'm sure the snow was special for you & it certainly sounds like it was for your boy dog
Snow before Halloween is practically unheard of in my area but it's on the way here too. The rain starting later tonight is due to turn to snow tomorrrow & it will be piling up 2-4" - ugh!
My Greater Swiss Mountain dog Maxie loves the cold weather & snow of course. My chickens hate it & refuse to walk on it so they drive each other nuts in the coop :H

Dewdrop, wishing you strength for a fun weekend with the grandkids!
Had all 3 of mine here at one time or another today & I loved it but I am tired. Lily has just started crawling & is covering a huge amount of territory in no time

I really shoud think about dragging some firewood in before it gets all wet - maybe!
                  Wishing everyone a comfy night!

                    October Opportunities - week 4

I'm here and good. Just exhausted, scratchy throat and my shoulder is killing me from overdoing it today (I used the hairdryer for the first time since last Friday :H).

Have to prepare for 12-15 inches of snow tomorrow nite. You read that right!! Not even fecking November yet AND it's only been 7 months since our last snow!!!
Tomorrow will be running around like crazy doing errand and as much yard clean up as possible. Oh, and I guess I should find my shovel!! :HSunday will be tough driving and shoveling with one arm but to the Nursing Home I must go. I do like this job but the hours are killing me!! The pay check however makes it sting a tad less.

Car got fixed today for less than $300 and it purrs like a kitten!! Talked to Dad about cashing out my TSAs and to my utter surprise he is all for it (as long as I stay employed in the state system. Which, after this past year of job hunting doesn't seem so far fetched!!). So, as soon as I get the appraisal done for the damage and fixed, I will be SUV shopping!!

I've read all the post these past few days and happy to see everyone busy and AF. Do we have a returner???

Dew-good to hear from you and that you're doing well. Enjoy the GKs this weekend!

Lav-OMG the hens are hysterical!! You should do a sweatshirt about them-Hysterical Hens Hate Snow or something like that (good thing I'm not in marketing!).

Rusty-no need to apologise! You sound super good these day! I start PT on it possibly next week. It was actually feeling pretty good yesterday in terms of I didn't need to take an Aleve all day. Today totally different story. I will get through it-just pissed we're getting so much snow tomorrow!!

Rustop-HAPPY 50TH!!. Hope your trip to the big Apple is awesome! Wish we could all get down there for a huge Octoberettes meeting!!

Chill-you sound super busy too! Glad things are settling down into a routine for you.

Cyn-You think yesterday was pretty? Wait till Sunday morning!! your boy dog will be doggie heaven!! It should be gone pretty quick tho and then we both can get our fences up!!

Star-I'm so sorry you're feeling like crap. Hope it sorts itself out very soon. Pred seems like the logical next step to me too. BTW-any chance there is mold growing anywhere in your house? Please don't take that the wrong way. I swore I had it in my basement a few years back-had hives, horrible sinus and colds all the time. Had Service Pro come out and give it a good scrubbing after I took up the rugs and I've never had those symptoms again.

OK, time to hit the hay. See you all tomorrow!

                      Good morning gang!

:welcome: back Lode! So glad you came by and hope you join our merry little band on a regular basis. Support is what we are here for so come lean on us until you are standing tall again.

Papmom - I have no idea what your TSA is but if it means a SUV then it's all good! I so admire you for doing your 2nd job, I really don't know how you manage it but you are amazing and I'm so glad you like what you are doing, that's at least a bonus as well as the extra cash. Maybe one day we will get that MWO meetup, it would be soooo great to meet you guys.

Rustop - A HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you my friend. Have awesome fun in NY with your daughter.

Rusty - I loved your story about names. I would have actually loved an odd name :H something like Moonbeam

Star - you are having a heck of a time, this weekend is time for some serious self care for you :l

Lav - I can't believe you are getting snow! Seems like just yesterday you were stifling hot

Cyn - Apart from a couple of ski trips in the Alps I haven't seen snow in ten years and I'm assured there will be plenty here this winter. I can't wait to see what Elle makes of it! She really doesn't like the cold and rushes me on our walk if it's too windy. Poor girl is born and breed Portuguese....

Jolie - hope your night was fun on thursday and you didn't end up with too much you don't need. I'm always looking at ways to get rid of stuff these days although Star I will take your candles! I still light them every night although I no longer have the joy of my real fire.

Dewdrop - I hope the weekend weather is kind to you, I thought we had some chilly rain forecast. We get an extra hour tomorrow night as our clocks change for winter and I will appreciate that extra time in bed as life seems to be nothing but rushing and being dictated to by alarms and schedules...*sign*

I'm looking forward to my Saturday though, longer walks with Elle, a trip to the gym, coffee with Mum and Dad at my fav local coffee shop, I have booked a mini facial and back massage this afternoon then cosy night in my pink pjs

                        Hi all - happy Saturday!

I hear you, Papmom: hopefully you will escape the worst, it is supposed to be bad more south than north. I hate to think of you trying to shovel with one arm. I will be going out early this morning to get bunches of candles and food supplies, I've been warned that with so many leaves on the trees the wet snow will likely create some power outages. I have located the shovels in the garage, and I found my camping stove, so with a little bottle of propane I'll at least be able to make tea and warm up some canned beans if the power goes out! Hey Ho country living..

OK Lav - I get it, 'cooped up'! It all becomes clear.

Chill - perfect perfect, a mini-facial, love to hear that, good for you! I thought of you last night, as I logged onto Hay House Radio and listened while I did some more unpacking of boxes...I remember you recommending it years ago, I finally got around to listening.

Star, I hope you feel better soon, and have a nice self-care weekend coming up.

To everyone, wishing you time to take care of yourselves today =

Thanks all for your support. Lav, I will have to go to another doctor soon as I feel worn out and just blah. I did not realize we get new allergies as we get older. YUCK.

Rustop, Happy Birthday, hope it was fun.

Rusty, I'll bet Chicago was beautiful yesterday.

Papmom, that is just too much snow too soon, my goodness. I am so sorry it is starting for you in October.

Lodestar, so good you came back, we are more than happy to hear your story and give daily support. You will feel better soon, and the only failure is to quit trying to quit. What is your plan and who do you have for support? Please let us know.

Chill, sounds like a nice day all planned out. Thanks for letting us know. You sound busy and happy, I think it is good to know yourself, take care of yourself, and grow.

Dew, busy weekend filled with fun and love!!!

Just going to hang out at home today and clean. I still feel weak and not tip top. It will be good to take care of myself. To all, have a great AF day.

                            Good morning all!

Slept in a bit but that's OK, needed to catch up a bit
Watching the rain turn into frozen rain then back to rain so far this morning. I suspect the snow will arrive later this afternoon - swell

cyn, 'cooped up' causes hen pecking - I kid you not!!
The girls have been known to get rather violent with each other if they stay inside too long.
I've been known to shovel out a path for them inside their fenced yard so they can at least step outside once in a while :H
Grateful that my SIL fixed the generator when the hurricane was here recently. So if the power goes off at least I have a few small comforts
Let's all hope the snow changes it's mind!!

Chill, hope you are enjoying a relaxing Saturday

Star, the things that can possibly happen to us as we age.......
Some things we can try to prevent, others things are just completely out of our control. I just don't like the mainstream medical community's attitude & desire to cut, chop, & medicate us to death. I witnessed way too much unecessary doctoring during my 30 year career.
I believe we do indeed have the ability to take care of ourseleves, up to a point. I only go to the doc when I feel I absolutely have to go!
I am a firm believer in medicinal herbs.......I grow quite a few & make tea with them. Ecchinacea is proven to boost your immune system & I have used it many times during the fall & winter seasons. Just makes sense to me to boost your own immune system to fight off the viral & bacterial insults we come across daily
Don't overdue with the housework - it always waits for us!

                            Lode, how's your plan going?

I'm going to tickle a few missing friends this weekend, namely Sooty & LBH!
Paguy John just may get an email from me!

Wishing everyone a wonderful AF Saturday!

                              Hi Guys
Hope you are enjoying your Saturday....

I LOVED my mini facial and back massage and havent relaxed so much in a long time, im going to carry the theme through for the evening and soak in a bubble bath before lighting the candles and putting on my "chill" music.

I posted this on the inspiration thread but I wanted to share it with you guys too as I really loved it!

Look forward to joining you all in November.
