I posted in the other thread but thanks Turn and Lav for the great links!!!! Awesome stuff. I hadn't heard about shelters allowing alcohol and I'm sure it's very controversial. But leaving people to freeze to death on the streets is not pretty either. There are probably other measures that will ensure a greater degree of safety for all while people get the fix that their bodies demand. And I'm guessing greater exposure to treatment possibilities is a plus. I will let you guys know where we go with it once our debate team mulls it over.
I need to seriously finish getting my closet switched over to "winter" today. And NO SUGAR. Those are my two goals outside of school work.
Next Tuesday I'm going to a graduation shindig for a girl who is graduating from Mental Health Court. Mental Health Court is an off shoot of Drug Court, and both are an alternative to jail for people who commit drug related crimes (not murder - lesser crimes - usually stealing and/or drug possession). Mental Health Court recognizes the fact that a significant percentage of drug users also have a diagnosable mental illness. Estimates of people entering treatment for alcohol abuse/dependence (where there is also a mental health assessment as standard procedure) suggest anywhere from 40% - 70% of alcohol dependent people also have a mental illness. Anyway.....our quiet friend is graduating from that program. I need to find a nice little gift for her. I need to order a bunch of stuff from Hazelden and just keep some little recovery items around for occassions such as this one. I'll have to see what's on my shelf that I haven't touched.
OK - time to have one more cup of coffee then get busy. You fabbies have a WONDERFUL DAY!!!
:welcome: to LODESTAR!!!!!
One thing is for sure.....today there will be no drinking AL for me.
