Hey Brandy...don't know if the pans has passed on the info regarding effects of 5 htp...but I'll post a couple of things I have noticed over the years (I have used it ever since I came out of my mothers womb it feels, since I read it was a good natural aid for depression)......The first few times you use it, start with a lower dose, 50-100mg and start on a Friday night if you do not work over the weekend. The first few 'mornings' after may leave you a bit groggy, but the old bod. quickly gets used to it. You may also find that you DREAM like billyo...and in glorious technicolor too. 5htp is supposed to help boost the rem portion of sleep, which is your good, healthy, healing sleep, and so this is one of the things that struck me when I first used it...I also found that because the sleep I got was of a better quality than normal, I needed less of it, and was much more able to function after a later night and an earlier morning than previously.
I did read in a few articles though that long term use of the tabs are not so good if you have liver problems, quite how long 'long term' is, I'm not sure, but if this is something you need to worry about, then check it out. I know that I stopped taking them for a long time, when I got chronic ulcers all over the bottom of my legs, which apparently is a sign of a dodgy liver (yup...that's right...stopped the 5htp, but carried on pouring the old vino tinto into the piehole?????? ) Anyway...you may have all this stuff already, but hope this is of some help?
