        Hi Mary, Hi Paul --

Greetings and Salutations! And Mary, congratulations on your new little niece! I just got back from visiting with my sister and her 3 kids.... it was a very nice way to spend the holidays. I must say, though, that I'm ready for some peace & quiet, as I'm not used to spending time around small children!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello. Here's to a happy, healthy and sober 2007 for us all~

my first post of the new year

            Hi Mike,
            peace and quiet........
I have the house to myself from Wednesday morning....wife and son back at work. I don't start back till Monday so I shall get a proper rest at last. I intend to allow my body a few days of real recouperation before embarking on another crazy year in the rat race. I feel ready for it though, and better prepared physically and mentally.
I was tidying up the day aafter my last 'slip' and I came across my glass. It's not special in any other way but it is my favourite glass. For years I would go to the shop for my bottle then come home and go into the cupboard and fetch 'the glass'. Always the same one. There was only one thing that I could do...I had to get rid of it. It sounds funny but I couldn't stand to have it near me. I threw it in the bin outside. Iopened the bin lid and dropped it in. It didn't break so I lifted it back out and aimed it at the empty vodka bottle from the night before. I heard it break. It was a very satisfying noise. I looked inside the bin, just to check, and they were both dead, the glass and the bottle. A symbolic moment for me....if slightly mental.
I just thought I'd share that.
Anyway, I'm glad that you had a nice time with your family.

Good morning Mary, Paul, Mikeupthere and last but not least weeeeeeemelonhead.
I am glad you are all doing well and Paul a big cheers to the demise of the bottle and the glass. Just starting day 3 of AF. It has been ok. White knuckle from 5 to 8, then the tension eases or I hang around on the computer reading posts to divert my attention from the ice cubes clinking in my husbands glass. Man, that is a trigger. Other than that, it is really nice to wake up in the morning without a bloody hangover. I still suffer from neuropathy of the limbs, I hope it gets better as time goes by. It is really annoying. Talk to you all later, must run.
              Love Lori
