Sped-the cat not eating for 6 days is a medical emergency!! Cats can suffer from a very acute and fatal syndrome callled Hepatic Lipidosis. This usually happens after only a few days of not eating so she is in acute stress right now. It could be that she has an upper respiratory infection which is impacting her sense of smell which is why she won't eat. Cats depend on smell 100% to eat. Please get her to a vet immediately Sped. the minute they hear she hasn't eaten a thing in 6 days they will get her in right away. god speed and huge prayers for that poor kitty.

Oh irrepressible one, Rusty, your own words could not be better in describing this thread! You are bursting with life. For me it has been hard to hold on to a view of the world as bleak purposeless chaos when all you gems are carving out these little paths in your respective corners of it. One of the things that is helping me most in getting away from drinking is the discovery of how it was lowering my awareness in general and involving me with other people and situations that were similarly stunted in scope. In this regard, thank you for the quote Dill, it?s a keeper and so are you. I also love Margaret Roach, Cyn, and gardening. And cats, I certainly hope your son's kitty gets well soon, Shelley, for my cat Sam, food and a petting are life itself. Love, Ladybird.may we be well

Rusty, this will not surprise you. The avatar is a picture of a dill bloom!!! :HWell, a part of one anyway, that had the tiniest little bee on it.
Sped, be happy about this mild weather, it can disappear in an afternoon! You well know that, I am sure.Dill

January Jewels - week one 2012!
Had an appointment with the nurse at the surgery today and I have laryngitis so fluids and paracetamol and no talking for a few days, could take a week to clear up :upset: At least today is Friday so a nice relaxing weekend is on the cards. I?m tired tonight so off for a soak in the bath with some lovely smellies I got for Xmas and an early night. I was able to work from home today but was really not feeling like it, however I managed to clear a lot of crap from my inbox and do a bit of forward planning. It seemed to take me all day to do what would normally take 3 hours ? oh well it is what it is.
I hope everyone else who is feeling a bit poorly can catch up and recuperate over the weekend and those who have plans enjoy them. Have a good one and stay sober Jewels,
Dewdrop :hEnjoy today - there will be no other one quite like it....

Hi Jovial Jewels!!
Dew-hope you start to feel better real soon! I have now missed a whole week of work and I don't know if I will get caught up. I'm already thinking of calling out of the NH on Sunday so I can do my FT work. My boss there told me that was fine, she has someone lined up to cover the afternoon activity. The morning one doesn't have to happen. I'm just now feeling a tad less nauseous and dizzy so maybe I can get some good solid work done tomorrow and Sunday. I'll miss the $$ but we did get a 3.5% raise from the state effective this month and there was a big difference in my paycheck today. It should cover the lost hours from the NH.
I did a little cleanup of the yard and the kitchen before my brother came and just about passed out!! But, once he got here and I walked around the yard with him, the fresh air seemed to revive me. I then had a banana smoothie with almond milk once he left and it didn't make me nauseous so I'm guardedly optimistic. He did bring me some Pepto in case I need it.
I'm sick of being sick, let me tell you!New Birthday: May 8, 2010

Poor P3 and Dew! Please please take the weekend to heal. (Pap, did you ever think of being a veterinarian?)
Rusty - thanks for your words for all of us. The lyricist is Leonard Cohen, writer, songwriter and performer, I must admit I don't know much about him. Here is the performance of 'Anthem' (the song the lyrics are from) that I found when I googled: he is older, and the performance is very sweet, I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGZgDCGnTU0[/video]]Leonard Cohen - Anthem (10.17.2009) Sunrise - YouTube.
Lav - really? Those lyrics were in your book? Hmmm.
Sped - good luck with the kitty, lucky son you have.
I am missing voices - Rustop, Blonde, Kaslo, others - Mr G are you there? Please post some more songs of your own --
LBH - Your words made me think about how much more varied and dimensional the world seems to me now as opposed to a year ago. Thank you.
Good Friday eve -to the light

Hi everyone
Loving the different topics of discussion on this thread. We are all such smart insightful people - we should write an anthology!!!
Cyn - awesome quote! Hope you had a great day.
Chill - Let me know where you listened to that interview because I would really like to download it. Very interesting indeed. I worry about my cousins who are either just coming out of uni or heading in to it. I do agree with you though - the pace of change in this world is invigorating but at the same time very frightening! Hope your weather has improved and you have an awesome visit with Starts. Give her a big hug from me.
Dill - your quote today is exactly what I needed - thanks so much for sharing. I know I still mourn for my old life but that is part of the process of change.
Lav - you are so right - change is all about attitude and half of it is changing your attitude. I was listening to a radio call in about New Year's resolutions and one woman said her only resolution was to change her attitude and she talked about it and I thought - you know what - I am going to try that too. I have failed miserably so far granted but I am going to keep trying. thanks for reinforcing that with me.
Star - did you get to the fire and ice festival? how was it? what type of art did you see? Re: exercise - maybe this will help. I was reading about running and training and the writer said - you know, I never said after a run that I regretted going for one. Once you start you will feel great - just give yourself a wee extra push.
Rusty - amen sister! you said it all very well. We do invest time in this thread and in each other and that is so important. I also detest small talk and superficiality. Just be honest - own it. I may not like what you (in the general sense) say but I respect you for saying that. We really practice that on this thread and I love it. You are indeed a kindred spirit. I hope I am as accomplished, well spoken, thoughtful and knowledgeable as you one day.
Lav - how often do you go to Curves? Do you like the Kindle? I don't have one but I have thought about downloading ibooks for my ipad.
Sped - totally warmed up out this was as well - nearly 50 today? How is kitty? are you back in NM now?
LBH - no bleak purposeless chaos here and you are a huge shiny gem in this thread. Your words are like poetry - I love reading them. I relate to you on the awareness thing and I also found that my memory has improved so much since I stopped drinking and that in general has made me better aware. Do you feel more like you are present now?
Sooty - hope you enjoyed exercise class and get an early night!
Dew - bless babes! Feel better soon! Laryngitis is rubbish but thankfully it doesn't inhibit your ability to type!!!
P3 - glad you are feeling better and try not to push yourself or else you will relapse (i know, rich coming from me :H). And congrats on the payrise! Well earned no doubt!!!
Very tired today - no exercise for me. I am very achy from weight training yesterday. Interesting day at work - definitely have to work better on how I phrase things - I just out with it. I have to learn how to be a bit more soft and cuddly. Otherwise, its been a good day - got my british tv all set up and can now watch the soaps. Our multiregion dvd player came which means I can actually watch my dvds and do my workout videos.
To change the conversation up a wee bit - I was wondering how everyone chose their names on here...if we had had this discussion recently apologies if I missed it. I have been using Cassia for a long time - since I used to chat on IRC. I found it on a name site. I just like it - sounds exotic.

Cassia,
'Lavande' came directly from the label on a bottle of lavender air freshener I used to buy from Yves Rocher ~ not exactly exotic :H
To answer your other questions, I go to Curves 3X/week & I love my Kindle even though I paid big $$ for it years ago. I just got an iPad for Christmas now I have two super duper e readers!
btw ATTITUDE really is everything........just sayin
Papmom, why were you out cleaning the yard?? Yuo are supposed to be resting - bad papmom.
I hope you get some sleep tonight.
cyn, warmer air is on the way - it was quite nice here today at 50 some degrees.
I don't think we've seen Blondie since before Christmas, have we??
I made a terrific loaf of Irish Raisin Bread today (recipe on KAF website). My grandson loves raisin bread & the store bought stuff is super sugary. There is only 3 Tbsp of brown sugar in this entire large loaf so I'll be happy to pass it along to him (I only had 1 slice for quality assurance purposes)!!
I think I'll mix up another starter tonight & bake up another loaf tomorrow for the freezer.
Think I'll actually head to bed earlier than usual.
Wishing everyone a good night!AF since 03/26/09

Hi Jewels!!
This really is going to be a quick check in for me (I know I say that and then seem to end up with sandwich posts but this time I'm serious)!:H I really just want to climb into bed and lay in the dark t=room in silence...I've had a headache for like 3 days now...ugh...it's been this constant headache that at times get painfully worse....right now is one of those times.
Anyway...my stepdad got the lab results back on my blood work (I will see the internal medicine doc on Tuesday for follow up but my parents didn't want me waiting that long to get the ball rolling...) anyway from what he could tell with the tests they had run...ruled out diabetes (thank goodness)...ruled out thyroid problems...he said my B12 level was at like 100...which I guess is low...may have to look at doing some shots (probably has to do with my gastric bypass almost 20 years ago he's thinking) and also one of my levels on my kidney tests came back elevated which I will have more tests done on that when I meet with my regular doc on Tuesday. SO....I'm thinking once I get some more B12 in me I might start perking up a little...any thought Dr. Lav??
With that...I will check back in with you all tomorrow and chat with each of you then! Been GREAT discussion (as always) on here!! Rusty....I second, or third what you said about this thread and group of amazing people on here....I LOVE coming here everyday and think we really stumbled onto something pretty special here!! :l:l

Good morning jewels
Sorry for you guys dealing with sickness, Dewdrop that is sounding nasty, stay warm and cosy and do nothing. Papmom, are you listening? SD make sure you are drinking plenty healthy fluids, headaches are often due to dehydration.
Lav - Blondie had gone back to moderating and perhaps she doesn't feel she wants to be here. I really miss her and her positive attitude, so Blondie if you are out there please check in and tell us how you are doing.....
Cass - do you get bbciplayer? The radio show was Jeremy Vine on radio two thursday. He was interviewing someone about a book they have written. Hope you manage to download it.
Right I need to get going, I'm driving up to Glasgow Airport to collect our dear Starty who will have had a very early start this morning. Wishing you all a wonderful, safe & peaceful AF Saturday."In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer ."

January Jewels - week one 2012!
Good morning to all...
The fire and ice festival was interesting...so many ice carvings, some amazing, I wish I would have brought my camera. The weather was unseasonably warm and there were tons of people out. It was fun and something to do, for free. I think today is supposed to be great weatherwise, too. We are so lucky. Long may it last, but I know it won't.
Really struggling with an irritable mood. There is no reason for it. It does look like a full moon through.
Cassia, I am going to go to an exercise class this morning, I obtained a class schedule and promised my self to start off twice a week. You are right, I have never said I was sorry that I exercised!!!
Dew and Pap, please take care of yourselves, lots of TLC.
Sped, I have cats and think it is awesome that your son took in some older babies. Usually it takes time for them to adjust to a new environment. I free feed my cats, meaning I leave the food out all the time and they can eat what they want. Maybe the one cat is sneaking food at night or something. I know in the past with a new kittie, there was hissing for weeks.
SD, you sound stressed out, you have had alot to do in the past few months. Hope you can relax a bit this weekend.
Chill, have fun visiting with Starty....hope your weather is decent.
Dill, love your quotes. It is great to have you back.
Hello to Lav, Rusty, Cyn, Sooty, LBH, Mr. G., blonde, kaslo, Pap, Dew, and all. Have a lovely Saturday.Formerly known as redhibiscus
