    Question

I had this conversation a while back when I decided to go AF, but can't find it, or don't have the patience to scroll thru all the message. What does alcohol turn into in your system before it's completely gone? Someone knows the answer to this I just can't remember who??

          Question

actually my original question was how long does it take for the alcohol to get out of your, system, someone indicated that after about 9 or 10 days it's no longer alcohol but a residual chemical, that's what I'm looking for. Don't even know why really just that maybe it will help me being a little more educated. And that if know it's all gone after say day 15, I'll know it's my addiction or whatever that's telling me to drink and not a physical need to keep something thats no longer in my system or whatever....I don't know what I'm talking about really, I'm just trying to not drink for 30 days and am on day 10 and going crazy!! :H

            Question

Shedot, hang in there girl. It takes alcohol about 72 hours to leave your body. As for the chemical it turns into, I heard it takes up to 10 days.

Don't let any of this worry you too much. You are doing great - 10 days is fantastic............. maybe the chemical has left the 'building' and now you are feeling a little off.

One of my posts 8 days ago was where I was asking about headaches..... they started on day 10. You are probably rid of all alcohol residue now and are starting to feel a bit out of sorts. I know day 10 was tough for me physically.

It does get better. Hang in there!!! I am routing for you!

              Question

The first step in the metabolism of alcohol is the oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde catalyzed by alcohol/dehydrogenase containing the coenzyme NAD+. The acetaldehyde is further oxidized to acetic acid and finally CO2 and water through the citric acid cycle. A number of metabolic effects from alcohol are directly linked to the production of an excess of both NADH and acetaldehyde.

Recent investigations have suggested that acetaldehyde may be responsible for the development of alcohol addiction. Acetaldehyde in the brain may inhibit enzymes designed to convert certain nerve transmitters from aldehydes to acids. The nerve transmitters that accumulate may then react with the acetaldehyde to form compounds which are startlingly similar to certain morphine-type compounds.

These morphine like substances actually change the number of dopamine receptors we have - so when we stop drinking our bodies must learn that no more morphine like stuff is coming so it can rebuild new receptors. During that time we may well feel a bit yucky - Our marvelous bodies DO rebuild but we must be patient and take good care of ourselves during the process. Just as though we were healing from a broken leg. The supplements sleep, exercise and good nutrition can really help.

Gosh - I sound as though know what I am talking about and here I am only 17 days AF

                    Question

                    Hey rivergirl.
I'm trying to get to grips with the physiological aspects of alcohol addiction so that I can understand what's happening to me a little better. Thanks for that information.

                      Question

Paul, It helps a lot to know the physiological aspects of the process - that is why the supps and topa help. The human body is so amazing though, in that our minds have such enormous power to overcome and actually physically alter the chemistry in our bodies. Thankfully for the better if we choose.

I am amazed at the difference the CDs are making for me - I would not have believed it possible.

Also having this community to go to throughout the day gives great support.

                      Blessings,
                      Rivergirl

                        Question

Most excellent River Girl! It's been a few days since i've posted but I'm now on day 18. Have headaches daily. Not sure if it's the residual chemicals fading away and my body is just trying to get back to normal or what. I must say that each day I wake up very tired, but after a while I have a clarity during the day that I haven't had in a while. But oh how I miss a buzzzzzzzz. I just really, really like to get high. I love that buzzzzzz. Its the stopping that seems to be my problem. Im halfway now and am already thinking about after the 30 days, which I know I shouldn't but I am. I think after the initial 12 weeks is when you can start experimenting with the moderation thing. My experience is that I start out that way, but after a while moderation gets thrown out the door. But whatever, I'll keep trying. Hope all is well with everyone!!!!
