Just Joy ~ June Week 3

SD, a good old fashioned fish fry on a farm! We do that here, too. I’m glad you had a good time meeting his family. I know our relationship has been a virtual one, but it still is very real to me as well. It's the kind of relationship that is formed when people go into battle together, eh? Kind of a Band of Sisters deal! I am very fond of you and sincerely pleased that you have found your way back from what surely would have been an unhappy and minimal existence. I’m glad I have, too. Say, on the news last night they mentioned some new research that resulted in a WARNING to people who have had gastric bypass surgery. The research indicates that the op affects a person’s ability to metabolize alcohol and people then have a greater tendency to alcoholism! Had you ever heard that before? I’m going to google it today. I thought of you while watching Brian Williams!! (NBC)

Jolie, glad you had a good birthday. You are so right about being grateful for each and every day. I have a screen saver on one of our laptops that runs through all the photos we have scanned into our computer. It keeps me grounded in how fast it all goes as I see pictures of my brothers and parents, my children, everyone I love, really, at various stages of their lives flashing on the screen. Life is short.

Star, how did you manage to get a 4 day work week? Good for you! I tried to cut back my week to 4 days and the supervisor pretty much shut me down. I managed to get her to agree to a 4.5 day week, so that is at least a little better.

Cyn, Have you moved already or are you still preparing to move? Where are you moving to? Is it a big move or just across town? Why are you moving again? Didn’t you just do that?

    Chill, welcome back!

Rusty, elastic on top AND bottom?!!!

Lav, I was kind of surprised to hear you say you feel pathetic when you travel solo. I love to go on my own, although I admit I am usually going to a destination where there is a friend or family member to visit. Do you have any options like that? I am not a good traveler generally speaking and would rather be home than anywhere else.
UPDATE: After seeing those pictures I’m not sure why you would travel anywhere!!

Pmom, I hope your ankle heals quickly. Will you have to use crutches and keep weight off of it?

LBH, Do you really use your Ipad a great deal? Very thoughtful (although defensive) gift for Lord BH, I must say. He will be thrilled. We have a shared Ipad which means I get to use it, sometimes.:H Mr. Dill uses it as a Kindle, if you know what I mean. He takes it everywhere we go. In fact, now that I am thinking of it, it showed great sensitivity that he left it in the car last night when we had our little celebration!:H I love to picture you up and out in the pre-dawn light doing your gardening. I will be there with you this morning, If you don't mind me joining you.

Our anniversary was nice. We just had a quiet dinner out and reminisced about our wedding day 35 years earlier. Some of it I remember quite clearly, some not. We were married outside at his parent's home. It was a low budget affair and pretty much just family and a few close friends. We had a picnic/reception and his mother, who had been a professional cake decorator, made our cake. It was a wonderful day.
    Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

      Good morning to all...

Just a brief visit to say IT IS HOT HERE!! I started watering my lawn, something I am normally against, as it is brown and crispy, with 90's predicted for next few days. Ouch. I still love it though, it is summer and I wish I was off today to go swimming. But off to work I go. To all, have a great day.

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

        Good morning June friends!

Dill, what I need is a break from all the work involved in keeping this great big green oasis :H
I do have a brother living in northern CA but that's quite a trip.......guess I'll just stay put.
The truth is I'm just longing for the 'normal companionship' a long time married person expects & deserves.

Star, the heatwave arrives here tomorrow, ugh!

        Have a great day all!

Good Evening. Dill, I took you with me through the garden this morning, we groomed and watered the flowers and veggies together and transplanted a ?Hot Papaya? coneflower and a deep burgundy bee balm. After I got back from the old YMCA pool, we went to the water garden store and bought ?oxygenating? annuals for the pond, foxtail and hyacinth and water celery. The fish are zippy and thrilled. Thank you for being with me:l. Your wedding and anniversary sound lovely. Really good pictures, Lav, you have a beautiful family of grandchildren and pets. Enjoy your busy time of it Rustop, and don?t forget to breathe. It is HOT here also, Star, in the nineties but the humidity is less than 10%, one day it was 3%. The fire threat is horrible but if one sits in the breezy shade with a ice cold tea, it is possible to be cool and happy. Must fix dinner now for the birthday boy (Dill I do use my iPad?the display on the 3 is really sharp?and am planning on just having it instead of a desktop or laptop if things work out, I now have a bluetooth keyboard, dock, and a new wireless printer that does a great job from the tablets and the phones). Progress! Hello SD, Rusty, Chill, Fly, Jolie, Pappy, et al. Love, Ladybird.
            may we be well

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

              Good morning, really early today...

It has been so hot here, it was good to work and stay inside. Tempers are short at my house and I am kind of upset as I do not like to argue. I think with my son gone, we are putting more attention on each other and it is stressful when we don't agree on the little things. The funny thing is that in the last two days I have barely been home. I guess stuff like this just happens. Luckily we have an unspoken agreement to let little things go...but it still feels upsetting.

LBH, I would love to plant more in my yard, but I do not want to start another garden at this time...your pond sounds beautiful. We have a burn ban here too, but the Midwest is not as dry as the West by any means. There is something so soothing about working outside, being with your plants and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Iced tea sounds delicious too. Thanks for just talking about the computer info, I would love to get a wireless printer, are they expensive? What is the advantage of an Ipad compared to a laptop, in your opinion?

I am excited as I am getting an Iphone today...something new to learn and enjoy. I understand that you can download music, use it to travel, and download apps on everything. I realize it will take time to learn.

Lav, I understand about feeling down at times, especially since your relationship issues are in limbo. Your yard and doggies are beautiful and your grandchildren precious beyond belief. I liked that you decided to focus on what you have and enjoy where you are at. In reading all of our stories I notice that we all have things in our life that we regret. I know I do. Makes more sense to focus on what we currently have. Drinking, seems the pitypot is easier to fall into...AF we are able to let our feelings and moods kind of happen without getting stuck in them for days. Still, life happens.

Rustop, I understand about being busy, today I have a ten hour day at work, plus driving time. I am gearing up to get through this day with positive expectations and a healing attitude.

Dill, how did I get a four day work week? Took a new job with no benefits, paid vacations or salary. I make what I earn, and if I have a slow day, I make nada. So far I have taken it week by week and it has worked out well. I just couldn't take the old job much longer, with an unpleasant fellow worker, loads of paperwork and a new supervisor who was a micromanager. So, I am happy with my choice, and love the three day weekends. Even at the old job with decent paid time off, I was never able to get much time off due to the workload and fellow worker who was so moody. I recently saw her and she was as mean as ever, I don't get some people.

Chill, looking forward to hearing about your experience, I am getting geared up for my conference in a few weeks.

To all, have a great day and stay cool.

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

                Good morning everyone

Star - enjoy the heat and make the most of it. Its been ok'ish here yesterday and today but more rain promised. Have spent hours and hours in the garden and am eventually getting there.

Lav - your grandkids and doggies are adorable. I think Star is right, we have to make the most of what we have and you are a shining example of that.

I find that as my girls are getting older I concentrate more on our own nuclear family unit and dont get involved in all the other family stuff. It could also be that when parents die you loose the connection with birth family. As an only child I have always been pretty independent and do my own thing. I also do stuff on my own that I know horrifies my friends. I recently went to a book launch (well ok I admit hubby or daughters would not come) but I wanted to go, it was somebody we knew and I had a lovely evening. I am seriously considering going on city breaks on my own in the future too. Hubby travels so much for business they are not really his thing. We are having a few nights in Helsinki next month but that because he is en-route to Russia fishing.

Anyway just wanted to wish you all a happy hump day. Sooty - if you are out there, let us know how hubby is. Shoutout to Janice, Shelly, Blonde and a few others MIA.

                  Good morning June friends!

Summer solstice is here & so is the heatwave......not my favorite weather for sure.
When the weather folks start talking of a heat index of 103 I kinda freak

I received an invitation from my son & grandsons yesterday to join them on a trip to the Railroad Museum of PA. We had a lot of fun It's only a 45 min. trip from here in Lancaster. We also stopped for lunch & that was crazy with the kids :H
Breaking up the monotomy of life is a good thing

Greetings rustop, LBH, Star & everyone!
Wishing everyone a wonderful AF Hump day. AF is definitely the way to go

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

A good late morning going on here. I skipped my exercise class in order to head to the Botanic Garden before the heat, it takes a good hour and half to walk it, and I wanted to see the early daylilies and the Echinacea varieties that have inspired two of my new ?habits?. In addition, as I had dithered yesterday at the pond plant store over a perennial that was purely ornamental but today loved seeing some in place in the public garden, I also stopped and picked one up, a ?corkscrew plant?, a nest of rotating screwy branches that look wonderful with the peaceful lilies. You are right, Star, there is nothing like tending one?s garden, it is the only time I feel part of things. Regarding your printer question, I think virtually all printers these days have a wireless option and the one I bought was highly rated by Apple users and not expensive at $99; it does all of those other things also, scan, copy, photos, fax (do people still fax?) etc. As with your new phone, all of these devices are very, very SMART. As such, working my way to just an iPad is just a personal choice, parsimony being a strong point, and it is so easy to take everywhere, uses the same little charger as my phone. I was tied to a desk for work for so many years, I love being free of it. It is good to wander around on your own Rustop, a true happiness survival skill as there are times when it is not a personal choice. The railroad museum sounds fun, Lav, I have always loved trains. I also admire you for being able to eat out with small children, never having siblings or children of my own, I did not develop these skills and fear I become skittish and anorexic at the thought. Love to all here earlier and yet to come, and enjoy an AF day, Ladybird.
                    may we be well

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

Late check in for me today. I decided the early morning hours would best be spent outdoors before the terrible heat of the day set in. LBH I thoroughly enjoyed my visit with you in your garden and at the water garden store. Your little shubunkins are indeed peppy and entertaining.

Lav, I hear you on needing a break from all the daily care of a big house and yard. It seems never-ending and it must be even more daunting when one is on their own as much as you. At least YB does come mow. I'm grateful Mr. D does the mowing. I can do it and have in the past, but just now with my back I think the bumping up and down over mole hills and what-not would be too much on my spine.

All I can figure is, our dogs served us well when they were alive. They kept the mole population down, as well as the rabbits and squirrels. They kept the deer at bay as well. My impatiens have been decimated by a rabbit, shrubs and bushes are being constantly pruned by deer, and the moles are tearing up our yard something fierce!!

Greetings Star and Rustop and all yet to stop by. Enjoy your evenings.

Question: have any of you seen the series Lark Rise to Candleford? I missed it when it was on TV but recently watched the library DVD set. I recommend it highly!

Just Joy ~ June Week 3

I ended up doing something completely unexpected this morning but glad I did

There is a wonderful 84 yr old lady (believe it or not) who goes to Curves when I go. She is the sweetest little thing & like me is on her own. She's been asking me where I get my hair cut & would they cut her hair like mine (geez!!). Today Mary came right out & asked me if I would take her to the hair shop & make sure she got a good cut. I was kind of shocked at first but thought - why Not? So I put her in my car, dropped her off at the salon & went next door to Walmart (after telling the hair cutter what Mary wanted done). When I went back to get Mary she was grinning ear to ear, oh so happy with her new hairdo. Today I feel like a nice person & it took very little effort :H

LBH, you may have wet yourself laughing (I almost did) yesterday when my grandson asked the ladies sitting at the table next to us for money to buy his brother new shoes :H
I hadn't noticed that the smaller one had kicked his shoes off while in his car seat until we were sitting at the table. I said 'oh no, you lost your shoes' & EB took that as a cue to ask the ladies for money :H Taking kids out is always a thrill!!!

Dill, I don't think I could cope without a dog or two around here for lots of reasons including the ones you mentioned. Sometimes I feel a little stupid talking to the dogs but at least I'm not talking to myself :H

Have I mentioned hot hot it is - phew!!!

It's going to be another hot one here today. This afternoon Mr. D and I are planning a trip with our son and grandson to a local aquarium. It should be lots of fun. G-son is looking forward to seeing the sharks. The trip will be enjoyed more intensely as it will be af, so all senses will be directed towards the experience and not numbed or distracted by alcohol.

                                Hi everyone

"all senses will be directed towards the experience and not numbed or distracted by alcoho"l. What a wonderful way of putting it Dill and so true.

You ladies all sound busy and chirpy this morning, enjoy the activities you have planned. It has been lashing rain here all morning. Had a neighbour over for coffee and a catch up which was nice. Now trying to move my daughters books out of the dining room and into an upstairs room where she will study next year. Thinking of having the dining room table resurfaced. I was going to replace it but have not seen anything I really like. Well antique stuff that costs $$$$$. I have a man coming to look at it this afternoon. We have it 28 years so at this stage I am becomming attached to it.

Regarding new technology, I think as we grow older we have to keep abreast, otherwise we are lost. Hubby has an ipad that he leaves at home and I love it. Much prefer it to a laptop, I find it more user friendly. I bought a basic touch screen phone last year and as a result can use hubby's top of the range one. I am not very technological minded but dont want to live in the dark ages either.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday.
