Ah, CanToo :l I hear you loud and clear. I've been thinking lately about *all* the regrets/losses in my life due to various addictions.

I think it's probably important we don't think about our alcoholism in isolation but as part of a bigger picture of addiction - as once we quit drinking we're all the more vulnerable to falling into other addictions. Some compulsions, like exercise, are, as you say, healthier. Others, not so much. For whatever reasons some of us are just geared to becoming hooked on stuff and there's that whole known issue of transference of addiction to watch out for. Hence, the issue of total abstinence.

On that note, I'm going to see an NZ dubstep band soon (go the Kiwis) and my friend was saying we should get some weed - something I certainly soooo associate with that music. I only smoke pot now maybe two or three times a year - usually in those kind of circumstances or at a party. But it got me thinking. I seriously doubt I am about to go back to full-time pot smoking but I also realise I have to be extra careful with anything like that right now if for no other reason than getting high might make me decide it's ok to have a drink or start craving a drink. What's that saying - 'whatever sets you off to the races'. Ok, so I just reread what I wrote and clearly I'm going to have to pass on that one, right? Damnit.

      Kuya
, lovely to 'meet' you. Interesting you say that about the NZ drinking culture. I know it's there - pot culture is also pretty huge as you're probably aware - but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as here in Australia where it's maybe a bit more like London. Just so not socially acceptable not to drink and, yeah, a lot of bingeing.

What part of the land of the long white cloud are you in - if you don't mind us asking?

Well done on Day 4! The first week is totally the hardest, so be extra kind to yourself and post lots, but it does keep getting easier, as you'd know. But just focus on getting through the first week for now. One bit at a time my friend.

Xmas slips - yep, I fear that coming up ahead. Can't think about it yet though.

      L x

I cross-posted before I read your post Kas. It sincerely brought tears to my eyes and to you I say: :clapclap:

As I said before, your approach has my complete respect and support because 1) I knew that it came from a wise and caring place and 2) As you say, it takes guts to tell the truth when the truth will make you unpopular.

This is another post I need to save to my motivation folder. I am sorry Kas's comments hurt some tender feelings here but for me, anyway, this conversation has been invaluable during a time when I have been feeling complacency and thoughts of drinking slip back in - being at 65 days today. (So I'm past the point of no return huh Kas?

I know the road ahead will have many of those bumps and discussions like this are like storing up fuel to fight the fire for when those times come.

Hey Lilly, Ak being what it is I DEFINITELY know MOST of your friends! LOL

Great to be on this thread, I was just leaping from thread to thread didn't know there was an etiquette of sorts. Having read enough I know I will like it here. I don't pull my punches, don't lie and want to be totally AF. If I slip I want my arse kicked, I am too old for there, there's and too far down the road for tomorrows.
I have been very lucky, I still have my health, great kids, a job I love and everything to live for.

Day 4 is done .... I am feeling brilliant ...... Looking forward to day 5
