Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

    Good morning to all...

Happy Birthday Chill...sounds like a wonderful weekend in store for you!! Are you continuing your biking at the gym? It must be great to be in such good shape. Lots of hard work and being consistent. The conference sounded wonderful, did you learn anything inspiring and new?

Cyn and Dill, candles are wonderful, the dark mornings are not going away!!

Lav, good to hear you are busy and loving those grandkids. I too remember the crazy days when my son was little and full of mischief. He was a night wanderer too, and it was stressful.

Pap, so good to hear from you. It might be really interesting to work in Boston, take the train. You'd meet new people and have all types of experiences. I am really glad you are continuing to look for a different job, sending out positive energy to you.

I have a busy happy day ahead of me. Cleaning and laundry, then meeting a friend, and some shopping with my husband this afternoon. My daughter is coming up for the weekend, and my son will come over after work, and we will have a houseful. I get to plan something delicious for dinner tonight...vegetarian; soup and salad with brushetta, doesn't that sound good?

    Everyone, have a great day.

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

        Good morning friends!

My daughter & grandaughter stayed overnight. I think this is going to become a regular weekly event since my daughter has a job nearby on Fridays. Make me happy to have Lily for the day although I'll have to miss going to Curves. We'll just run around outside ~ weather is perfect

Yesterday was a bit much with the boys especially when I found one biting the other

I hope everyone has a terrific AF Friday! Nice to see you Star, Dill & IMT! Greetings to everyone else

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

          Good morning all -

Wow, sounds like a lot of family time for many of you...Lav, I hope that today is quieter - how nice that you have a 'sleepover' with daughter and granddaughter. My sleepovers with my grandmother, Nana, are some of my most special memories...

PMom - so good to hear from you and know that you are OK. Good for you for keeping the job hunt going, best of luck on all your interviews.

Star, and Dill - what I found after those 4 power-outage days last fall was that candles do have an amazing ability to bring light -- and also that in the mornings I like the intermingling of the light and the dark, rather than the banishment of the dark by an electric light. Maybe it's just more organic, or maybe it is part of the whole idea of the dark having its own nutritive aspect.

Oh well, too much philosophy for the morning - I've got to get soup made for my lunch visitor. This is a first time for me inviting someone here - I'm pushing myself to try to build some relationships...scary but good!

Wishing all a happy AF day

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

            HI All,
It's Friday nite and I am so glad this week is over! Just have to get through Sat and Sun and then I am free!!

Cyn-so glad you are reaching out and meeting new people in your new town. Good for you!!

Star-you are absolutely right about working in Boston. I never ever considered it before and now I am excited. I think the 1.5 hrs back and forth with someone else doing the driving and not worrying about rotten weather sounds divine!! Just have to get me a job now!

Lav-don't all kids go through a biting stage? Hope its a short one! How's Matilda doing? I think your sleepover sounds great! How nice to have scheduled mom/daughter/granddaughter time every week!!

IMT-nice job on the AFness! Keep it up!

Dill-this vet is brand new. I will take some time next week and interview a couple of other local ones to see if the pricing is a bit better.

            Hi Sidney-how's it going?

Extremely busy today at work. My boss was off campus and had given our clerk the day off . I was the ONLY one answering phones (which is not my main job duty) and everyone who called seemed to have a bug up their ass. I had more yelling in my ear than I knew how to handle. I have a major headache tonite. On a positive note, DD and I had a great training session when I got home. I think he's finally catching on to rolling the ball. I hope to teach him how to play Triebball. Its a somewhat new sport for dogs and it's great for playing at home. No need to compete but that might be fun too. I definitely need to get some exercise balls instead of the little toy one but we'll get there:
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az57i9j2Csg[/video]]Lucy demonstrating Treibball - YouTube

Then we did some agility work and then I collapsed on the swing. He seemed so happy to be finally doing something again so I will definitely keep this up until the snow flies. Maybe by then we can go back to agility.

time to grab some grub (yes the soup and bruchetta sounded delish!!) and relax.

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

PMom - thanks for posting the Treibbal clip - I looked also at the one with Lucy "how to teach treibbal" I've been looking for something to do with my boy dog that has the bum leg. I think this would be so much better than agility for him, and it would give me a goal to work on with both dogs. They so deserve it -- they have been there for me through thick and thin, and I think they are a little ?bored, ?nervous, ?need to feel like they are doing a job? Not sure - but anyway, this could be a nice focus for us...much appreciated...hope your headache goes away and that you have a good weekend.

              Happy Friday night, all -

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

                Hey Cyn,
What I like about this is the minimum effort on the part of the handler in terms of physical activity and the relatively inexpensive cost of the sport. Just a couple of exercise balls, something to make goals with (PVC is excellent) and off you go. As you get more advanced, you start to add in obstacles the dog has to guide the ball around. There were some great videos on there showing how to start introducing the ball and going from there. Although BCs and Aussies are natural for this because of the herding component, even dogs that don't necessarily "get" the ball or herding thing can learn this. I'm getting very excited and will be posting on freecycle for as many balls as i can get. I still want to get back to agility if I can but in the meantime, this will give DD the job he needs and alleviate his boredom and anxiety. I think it would be great for your pups too!!

I also picked up some red raspberry cider whicch I'm thinking will be good on ice with some seltzer or something of that nature Also picked up some cute & odd looking gourds & fresh veggies from my Amish neighbor - yum!

The 2012 invasion of the stink bugs has begun

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

I'm here Lav. Trying to check in daily.

Nothing to report-long day at the pet store-not very busy. Worked with DD again tonite. He's really getting it. On to finding a larger ball on freecycle.

tomorrow is another demo-I'm hoping my friend from work who retired this summer and whose husband developed a brain tumor shortly afterwards will show up with her lab. I sent her a note in the mail on wed letting her know I'd be in her neighborhood. Haven't heard from her in over a month and I really miss her. I'm sure she is overwhelmed with caretaking but I sure would like to connect again.
tomorrow nite is dinner at Sis's before my dad goes to the Cape to visit my friend's parents. I hope to go down on Wed for an overnight with her. Hoarder friend will take DD for Tues and Wed nite and I'll take the other 2 dogs with me. Cats can fend for them selves for 24 hrs. I just want to walk on the beach and sit on her deck overlooking the marsh.

My nephew's quilt is done! I'll get it Tuesday nite. Can't wait. I just have to applique the graduating list from his program onto the back and I can give it to him. First of course, it will need to be photographed and shown off at work when I get back from vacation. THEN he can have it LOL!! Just in time for his birthday!

Have a great nite everyone! Chill-can't wait to hear about your birthday weekend!!

I'm here Lav, but just barely. It's been a busy day with chores and now visitors. Mr. D's sister is here for the day and is spending the night. Son and grandkids are headed over to visit with her/us. I think your day with your girls sounds like a perfect fall day.

OMG it is a windy day!!! The sunlight is beautiful, but the wind so wicked.

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

                          Good Evening Everyone,

I've had two nasty viruses on my computer that have prevented me from getting online here for the last week or so. It's been a lovely sober September....very busy workwise and continually enjoying my family and friends. I've done a bit of entertaining and find my friends are very comfortable not drinking as well. They do not expect me to offer them AL, and they do not bring their own stash. LaCroix with lime is just fine with them.

A belated happy birthday to you, Chill.

Pap-I've been worried about you and I'm glad you're back with your usual enthusiasm...always a pleasure.

                          Cyn-thanks for keeping in touch.

Dill-I hate when I lose long posts....especially when it's a subject I care to invest a good amount of time in, and the frustration of losing the damn thing....ugh!

A peaceful AF night to everyone else.

                            Good morning kids

                            Very, very nice outside...........finally!
Had more rain last night, another power outage but everything is good this morning

Papmom, I really hope your week off is good for you!
I can't wait to see your latest quilt, hope your nephew loves it too.

Dill, busy is good! I've learned to be grateful for distraction - keeps me from dwelling on things that have caused me so much grief...... Enjoy your visitors today!

                            Rusty, computer viruses suck :H
Glad you have things straightened out now. It is nice when friends & family finally 'get' that you no longer drink AL or supply others with the poison. I just can not see myself ever stepping foot into a liquor store ever again.

Greetings to everyone & wishes for a terrific AF Sunday. I'm just playing things by ear today, no big plans & that's perfectly OK with me!

Simply Sober September ~ Week 3

Hey everyone - whee of a day here yesterday; had my across-the-street neighbor over for Swedish pancakes, then put up a 'play area' fence for the dogs, so that I don't have to watch my girl dog every second when she's outside mushroom hunting (although as I was putting up the fence, she managed to find a toad, aaargh, but didn't eat it.)

Then raced around cleaning up and finishing up things so that I could drive to a town an hour away to see a friend give a cabaret performance - a benefit for an organization that houses and takes care of developmentally disabled women. When I walked in the door at 7:00 pm, I was toast. Returned calls (one lengthy one with a professional friend who is out of work, and out of money...so hard) and fell into bed.

It's a crisp fall day here, brightly sunny. Hope everyone is having a beautiful AF day...
